just come home and saw the most unbelivable thing! car with 4 kids in the back off it 1 passagenger in the front on her lap HOLDING on to the car seat that had a young baby in it .!!!!

the baby had no seat belt round it so it would have been seriously hurt if there had been a crash and as for the kids in the back not one of them had a bloody seat belt on.

thought it was law now that any child under 11 had to be in a boster seat and straped in???

nope, sorry kks

IdreamofClooney · 12/04/2007 16:37

If I was going two roads away I would walk no question - think of your carbon footprint woman (as well as your child's safety!)

Surely a second hand car seat properly secured is better than no car seat at all? I a stuggle to afford things myself and buy tons of second hand but one thing I did buy new were the two car seats I bought.

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:38

i was just meaning to say that if someone like that who didn't have the decency to protect their kids did have car seats they would probably still not be safe- second hand car seats are the bain of my life!!!!

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:38

shanks?????

not sure what ya mean by that [thick emoticon]

I think nearly was makign a generalisation of people that will have 4 rampant Kids with no seatbelts in teh back and a Baby in carseat on lap....i.e. often not the kind that actually thinks all that much...(pretty much discribes the kind of people that do it around here, anyway)

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:39

second hand car seats can be just a dangerous as no car seat- you don't know what has happened to it!!!

kks · 12/04/2007 16:40

I have a brand new car seat thankyou. I do walk up but when there's alot of crap to carry if shes staying over then its easier to take up in car.

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:42

well, kks, you don't have like 4 other Kids in teh back of your car, right ;)

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:43

i didn't say it about you! god- we are talking about people who don't actually care about their kids and let four of them bounce around in the back seat- what i'm trying to get across is that these people need to see what would happen to those kids in an accident

obimomkanobi · 12/04/2007 16:44

Ahhhh, when I think back to how my dad used to have a mini-van with scatter cushions n the back...

I used to be ferried around lying on said cushions doing me colouring in.

Them were the days.....

kks · 12/04/2007 16:44

No just the one baby. Like i said the baby is always strapped in her carseat securely when i go out. Just sometimes when she comes home from grandparents she is carried on lap.

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:45

obi...yes, them were teh days, if you had an accident you wouldn't be here to tell the tale, eh!
Them were also the good ole days where cars were't as fast, where there wasn't as many cars on teh road, etc...lol

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:46

tell me about it- i was chatting to my mil a few months ago about the very same issues- our generation should have been wiped out with all the parenting faux pas (by todays standards!!!! before you all shoot me down!) that they made!

she did make the point though that there is more crime these days- would also agree with a point already made, its not my driving i worry about- its the other loonys and joy-riders!!

kks · 12/04/2007 16:46

Yeah people drive real dangerous nowadays!

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:50

oh 3andnomore- i'm having an arguement about those buggy's BY EMAIL would you believe!! I'll let you know what happens!

obimomkanobi · 12/04/2007 16:50

I'll have you all know that my dads mini-van was like shit off a shovel!!!

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:52

i bet!!! did it break the land speed record? lol

Upwind · 12/04/2007 16:52

Everything is so dangerous these days!

Even so I have never yet been involved in a motor accident of any sort.

Lucky really as I found out the other day that when I was a toddler my Dad used let me stand on the front passenger seat puzzling him with questions like "why is that mountain holding up the sky?"

kks · 12/04/2007 16:55

Like someone said, there are so many parenting faux pas today compared with years ago. Then again the world is more unsafe nowadays-you just can't win.

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:55

nearly...what about the thread the other day...where you admitted to being a Pramsnob?

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:56

don't you just wish people would take their own kids safety seriously- and even more than that- the police haven't really been enforcing the new car seat laws have they!

kks · 12/04/2007 16:57

I think their more interested in drivers on mobiles now, they get more money that way!

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:57

yup!!! its gone beyond now- someone wants me to donate me collection to charity as i obviously don't appreciate how fortunate i am!!!!! I BEING STALKED, ALL BECAUSE MY CM'S DAUGHTER IS A PAIN IN THE ARSE!!!

he he, i'm still finding it quite hilarious that people got so narked!!!

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:58

the way I see it...back then in the good ole days, they didn't do it to harm us, tehy just didn't know any better, and it's one thing to do something unwittingly and a whole other to blatantly ignore any research, guidelines, etc...!
YOu don't know what you don't know...but once you know you gotta act on it, and all that

does that even make sense?

nearlythere · 12/04/2007 16:58

kks- yeah but still- you'd think they'd be slightly interested but nothing at all!!!

3andnomore · 12/04/2007 16:59

wow nearly, that is bad, lol...but well...WHY don't you donate your fortume to charity, hmhmhm...go on, tell us
I admit, I didn't get the major issue thing...but can see where you were coming from, seeing that you are in teh business, and all that!
