Is MIL's slice of cake a bit stingy? (Picture)

MIL is a lovely women really, but positively enjoys being frugal and detests any excess in all its forms.

She's baked us a lovely cake, but is determined for it to last for as long as possible. She is the master slice cutter and won't let anyone else near it.

AIBU to be a bit disappointed with the size of this slice?

(Everyone disappeared into the other room, so I was able to take this sneaky photo with handy scale provided by new pound coin!)

Morris well done you GrinGrin
Frankly it's too small. Lacking in icing/ sauce. Ask for seconds and custard.

Whinesalot · 22/10/2017 10:51

It's not even worth bothering to eat it. All it will do is give you the taste for it and leave you feeling hungry and dissatisfied.

ArseholesOnToast · 22/10/2017 10:55

It's practically transparent! Very stingy slice.

LuluJakey1 · 22/10/2017 10:55

It is a mouthful if you are DH, two if you are me.

My MIL holds the knife over the cake and says 'Say when' Grin

Mistoffelees · 22/10/2017 10:55

This is why you have to ask for 'minutes' of any circular dessert that has to be shared, I usually have about 10-12 minutes of a standard sized pudding from the freezer section of the supermarket for instance.

Serialweightwatcher · 22/10/2017 10:56

That's the size I give myself but everyone else's is at least three times bigger than that for a 'normal' sized slice and mine is filled and topped with bailey's buttercream Grin

LuluJakey1 · 22/10/2017 10:56

I would call that a sample - what you'd get to see if you liked it.

Feckitall · 22/10/2017 10:57

I'm with Bike on this that's the sort of portioning we had when my DGM was around. The cake made on Saturday afternoon had to last the week until next baking day.
Main meals were scaled down too, smaller plates than we have now...we did have a pudding too though...
No snacks...
Breakfast(cereal), Dinner(school), after school snack(cake/squash), tea, (spagetti on toast/toast topper), supper (a biscuit and piece of apple and milk)
All smaller than todays portions though..

Ttbb · 22/10/2017 10:57

Are you sure she doesn't secretly think that you're fat? (Jokes) but on a serious note I tend to cut fairly big slices (three times the size) but a lot of people will only eat the amount that she has cut so maybe she is just cutting what she considers a normal serving as opposed to being stingy.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/10/2017 10:58

Lion
That’s called penis portions.

MargotLovedTom1 · 22/10/2017 10:59

Far too small, but then again I could do with shifting some timber so probably the right size for me.

Anatidae · 22/10/2017 10:59

You need to specific the number of degrees of cake you want.

Or just keep going back for more. Compliment her on how delicious it is while doing so.

liquidrevolution · 22/10/2017 11:00

We paid £70 for a large fancy cake for FILs birthday. He cut it into slices less than 1cm wide that instantly disintegrated on the plate. I was ShockSadConfusedHmm all at once.

FIL doesn't even like cake so most of it got chucked.

So disappointing.

Rattysparklebum · 22/10/2017 11:00

YABU my MIL serves wine in teeny tiny sherry glasses, she can make a bottle last weeks 😂

ItsNachoCheese · 22/10/2017 11:00

That looks like the size id give ds to eat perhaps a wee bit smaller but hes only small. I on the other hand would be outraged at being served that Grin

kateandme · 22/10/2017 11:01

tyneteas hilarious.
nice to read alight hearted thread this morning

QuiteUnfitBit · 22/10/2017 11:02

I think you should have asked for an answer in this format:
it's [sm/med/large] delete accordingly
[respondent's age]
That looks like the size of a cake slice when I was a child Smile

PandorasXbox · 22/10/2017 11:02

How disappointing!
How many people was it for?

Vanillamanilla1 · 22/10/2017 11:03

I'm a bariatric patient and Id cut a slice like that for myself and ive lost 80% of my stomach !

PerpendicularVincent · 22/10/2017 11:03

I am Grin at that miniscule portion being described as 'carb heavy'.

PinkHeart5914 · 22/10/2017 11:05

Sad I would want more but then I do love cake

When I’m cutting cake for people I normally hold the knife over the cake and tell them to say when, I’ve never underfed someone cake!

maddiemookins16mum · 22/10/2017 11:05

That's toddler sized.

BriechonCheese · 22/10/2017 11:05

What a tiddly portion.
My MIL gave me 1 tiny roast potato for Christmas dinner the first year I knew her, she was put right. Grin

crazycatgal · 22/10/2017 11:05

If you know that she is generally frugal, why did you ask for a medium piece?

MargotLovedTom1 · 22/10/2017 11:06

Perpendicular that poster was joking Grin.

I am outraged about the FIL chucking his fancy cake away though!
