Universal Credit won't be paid in months with 5 weeks. (WTF?) AIBU to think no one realises

If you get paid weekly, and there are 5 weeks in a month, in those months your pay will likely go over the Universal Credit limit and your UC will be stopped. You will have to go without that month and apply again.

WTF are they thinking?

Have they never heard of averages FFS? (That's how Tax Credits works). This is going to screw over so many people. It's ludricous.

The people claiming UC aren't any richer that month, they get the same amount of money as if it was paid in 12 monthly chunks.

This will happen to thousands of people every time there's a month with 5 weeks. (I guess they mean 5 Mondays?)

This is farcical.

There's 5 weeks in January, so if you get paid weekly that's you fucked for February.

April, July, October and December also have 5 Mondays.

This is utterly farcical and just plain callous.

She was in intensive care ffs and that was t a good enough reason to miss her UC interview.
RIP Elaine Flowers

HelenaDove · 08/11/2017 18:27

So what happens with the children now Sad

gluteustothemaximus · 08/11/2017 18:38

It’s the cold response from the DWP that’s chilling. ‘Anyone who disagrees with a decision can appeal’.

And in the meantime...they starve? Freeze? Die?

What have we become. I wonder if this is UC ‘working’ Sad

gluteustothemaximus isn't it just Sad

They're not even pretending they're going to change anything. This is business as usual.

Oh god that’s heartbreaking 😔😔

TheSassyAssassin · 08/11/2017 20:33

Utterly heartbreaking and so very tragic. Clearly the weak and vulnerable are the ones who should be punished as opposed to those companies and individuals exposed by the Paradise Papers who hide millions in tax haven schemes...clearly stopping this poor lady's pittance is the priority and not recouping the millions from the fat cats who get away with financial murder! MNHQ, is this something you are supporting with a campaign?

Bexter801 · 01/01/2018 20:32

I've just checked my online journal for my payment this Friday, and they were originally taking 3 seperate amounts for overpayments from years back!,and rent arrears from previous address, but showing on my next payment their taking double the amount for each repayment, plus giving me less rent? I'm totally confused, anyone else have a similar thing happen?

Bexter801 · 01/01/2018 20:38

Oh God,have just read previous comments,I'm so sorry if have commented on the wrong thread. This is a horrendous story, soul destroying, cold and choosing to be ignorant are all words to describe the whole uc system.

Kpo58 · 01/01/2018 20:42

How are people ment to appeal if they don't have the money for a phonecall, pen, paper and a stamp, access to the internet or money to travel to a local library (for internet access) or to where the appeal location is?

Bexter801 · 01/01/2018 20:51

Not that it's much help, because they just hang up on you if you question them, but there's a free phone number now. 08003285644

Anyone remember the landlord who called LBC towards the end of last year talking about UC and how his tenant hadnt been paid for many many months?

Well he called LBC again today The tenant has killed himself.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 15/06/2018 14:53

It's free money you haven't worked for. Perhaps if you spent as much time trying to improve your situation as you do moaning about free hangouts, you would be able to stop sponging off the tax payer.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 15/06/2018 14:53

Hmmmm hand outs

HelenaDove · 15/06/2018 14:56

Im not on UC And its also paid to ppl who work You come across as uneducated and ignorant.

ibblebibbledibble · 15/06/2018 15:01

Whatshallidonowpeople

You’re an idiot

FoofFighter · 15/06/2018 17:01

Sad Helena that is awful

BBC website today reporting basically that UC is not fit for purpose, as stated by the National Audit Office

DownstairsMixUp · 15/06/2018 17:13

You know what worries me is it seems to be the people that will be affected by this not doing much. My friend, a single mum, still refuses to believe anything bad will happen when she's switched to uc

BoxsetsAndPopcorn · 15/06/2018 17:22

Im not on UC

The name doesn't matter but you are on benefits and have a real gripe with the government over daring making changes or sanctions.

Roomba · 15/06/2018 17:26

People have been painting this out for years. No one cares. We're all benefit scroungers who should be grateful for any scraps we get at all... Until it affects millions of working people as their area moves onto UC. Maybe they will start caring then?

eve34 · 15/06/2018 17:41

Due to my circumstances changing I started claiming uc July 2017. I have no idea how many months since then have had five weeks in. But my money has never been stopped and I have not been asked to reapply. It is a pittance compared to tax credits I would of claimed if ex had left me the month before. But I am grateful there is a safety net.
