Universal Credit won't be paid in months with 5 weeks. (WTF?) AIBU to think no one realises

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 22/10/2017 01:41

If you get paid weekly, and there are 5 weeks in a month, in those months your pay will likely go over the Universal Credit limit and your UC will be stopped. You will have to go without that month and apply again.

WTF are they thinking?

Have they never heard of averages FFS? (That's how Tax Credits works). This is going to screw over so many people. It's ludricous.

The people claiming UC aren't any richer that month, they get the same amount of money as if it was paid in 12 monthly chunks.

This will happen to thousands of people every time there's a month with 5 weeks. (I guess they mean 5 Mondays?)

This is farcical.

There's 5 weeks in January, so if you get paid weekly that's you fucked for February.

April, July, October and December also have 5 Mondays.

This is utterly farcical and just plain callous.

apologies for link mess up!

KathArtic · 28/10/2017 09:33

I’m not a troll just trying to give options, someone reading this may be frightened your doom stories. Just wanted to point out that you must explore option.

CallingPeopleACuntOnFb · 28/10/2017 09:35

They should be frightened Kath

People are ACTUALLY DYING

treaclesoda · 28/10/2017 09:39

I want to believe that Kath is a troll because I want to believe that no one could be so callous.

CallingPeopleACuntOnFb · 28/10/2017 09:47

Me too treacle

dangermouseisace · 28/10/2017 09:48

Maybe Kath is just incredibly, unbelievably stupid?

  • what does insulin dependent person do when the pharmacy is shut and they need to inject? That is if they happen to live around the corner from one, as the person needs to eat within a certain time of injecting.
  • if you are insulin dependent, or indeed, any human being, you also need to eat. If you can't afford electricity chances are you cannot afford food either.
FlaviaAlbia · 28/10/2017 09:51

Ok, so you seriously think a bus trip or long walk to a pharmacy every time someone needs insulin is an acceptable solution to the problem of not being able to afford to keep a fridge on.

And then accuse other people of posting doom and gloom stories? OK then... Hmm

BlueButTrue · 28/10/2017 10:09

Kath That is not an option, and shouldn’t even be registered as one, so no - Others should not be ‘aware of the option’ because it isn’t one!

That’s like (for the sake of this argument), an inhaler needing to be kept cold and because you can’t afford electricity, getting your neighbour to keep it safe for you. Yeah, okay Hmm

Jesus fuck Kath, do hou seriously think keeping essential medication away from you and in a premises that is locked fr more time that is open is even remotely an 'option'.

Are you completely and totally stupid.

And if you are not frightened by UC there is something v wrong with you. Even if you do not rely on it in any way, that this is happening in society is frightening.

ManateeEquineOHara · 28/10/2017 10:59

And just reposting for the new page

Petition against UC discriminating against weekly paid workers - petition.parliament.uk/petitions/203492

BabychamSocialist · 28/10/2017 11:36

Kath is either insanely thick or a very boring troll.

Still, at least we know which morons vote Tory. Apparently people dying because they can't take their medication and dying of hunger is absolutely fine in 21st Century Britain, the 5th richest country in the world.

It really does make me feel sick that there are people trying to justify these murderous, callous policies. There is no justifying them - they're evil and everybody who voted Tory enabled them. None of this "oh we voted for X reason" - no excuses, you knew exactly what they were going to do with regards to benefits, and you were fine with it, because it's not you. Don't suddenly grow a conscience - you should have done that at the ballot box.

Who do you suggest people voted for? Out of interest....

If Labour, where on earth would this country get the cash to do all those things?

I’m not a Tory by the way, I can’t stand them and think they’re thieving, greedy and selfish bastards.

I did not vote this year because I felt I completely lacked the knowledge/wisdom to make a half decent choice

Gilead · 28/10/2017 12:25

Blue How much research have you done on your question? It's a myth that Labour mess the economy up with overspending. One peddled by a party that has consistently spent more since the war, than Labour have. Overspending
The tory welfare cock up
Tory Borrowing
And let's not forget, more than one Tory minister pointed out that Labour did not mess it up last time they were in government, including a former chancellor.

charmedrose · 28/10/2017 12:27

The tories hate the poor and look after their own, i.e. the rich. Let them see the kind of world they're creating a few years down the line. It cannot continue. People will not be capable of holding down a job when they aren't able to eat, nor will they be capable of even getting to work, because this is what Universal Credit will create.

If they really think that starving the poor will not have a knock on effect on them, then they are deluded.

Frequency · 28/10/2017 13:14

The crime rate will soar. Maybe then, when it's their businesses and their homes being targeted the Tories will listen.

I've never shoplifted in my life but if I had nothing and no way to get anything I'd sooner steal a loaf of bread and block of cheese than send my kids to bed hungry. I dare say most parents would do the same.

CallingPeopleACuntOnFb · 28/10/2017 13:19

Same here frequency

expatinscotland · 28/10/2017 13:21

'Didn’t one die because his insulin couldn’t be kept cold as he couldn’t pay his electric bill ?

I think pharmacies can store medication for you.'

In addition to never answering my question about how people are supposed to prepare and budget for UC when they already have NO money to save, you're incredibly ignorant about diabetes.

You sometimes have to inject very quickly, or you can die. That's right, die.

If your pharmacy is shut or not round the corner (our nearest one is 2.5 miles away) then having a fucking pharmacy store it for you isn't going to work, is it?

As for 'doom' stories, well, they are not stories, they're the truth.

charmedrose · 28/10/2017 13:29

Unbelievable that we now live in a country that is prepared to let its workforce have such a low standard of living that EATING and keeping warm will be a luxury.

HelenaDove · 28/10/2017 14:26

Kath i dont know whether to piss myself laughing or cry at your latest machinations.

Whats somebody suppossed to do at 3am when they need meds.

Moron.

KathArtic · 28/10/2017 14:38

Helena why do you name call?

EB123 · 28/10/2017 14:45

I just read the story about that poor man dying, he also had no food in his stomach. That is so heartbreaking,

HelenaDove · 28/10/2017 14:50

Kath do you really need an explanation?

When you are the one suggesting that ill people should attend a pharmacy every time they want a dose of meds. You are basically being disabilist.

Gilead · 28/10/2017 15:11

Helena why do you name call?
Kath, why do you ask this instead of apologising?
Why do you ask this instead of reading what has been put on here?
Why do you ask this instead of discussing the issue at hand?

Is it because there is nowhere to go, other than apology after what you said?
