Universal Credit won't be paid in months with 5 weeks. (WTF?) AIBU to think no one realises

If you get paid weekly, and there are 5 weeks in a month, in those months your pay will likely go over the Universal Credit limit and your UC will be stopped. You will have to go without that month and apply again.

WTF are they thinking?

Have they never heard of averages FFS? (That's how Tax Credits works). This is going to screw over so many people. It's ludricous.

The people claiming UC aren't any richer that month, they get the same amount of money as if it was paid in 12 monthly chunks.

This will happen to thousands of people every time there's a month with 5 weeks. (I guess they mean 5 Mondays?)

This is farcical.

There's 5 weeks in January, so if you get paid weekly that's you fucked for February.

April, July, October and December also have 5 Mondays.

This is utterly farcical and just plain callous.

And some are dead Susannah of course . They’ve died of starvation or killed themselves out of sheer desperation. Didn’t one die because his insulin couldn’t be kept cold as he couldn’t pay his electric bill ?

But hey at least they’re “saving the government money” hey 😒😒😒😒

gluteustothemaximus · 27/10/2017 19:33

Since the crackdown on the hugely bloated welfare state, the numbers claiming benefit has dropped as more of them are now in work.

How naive.

Gilead · 27/10/2017 19:39

No, the numbers have gone down because more have been sanctioned, crossed over to other benefits or have had their claims stopped for the reasons cited many times over in this thread. Whilst it's obvious that some people are back in work, this would have been the case under the old benefit system too. Glad it works for you though. I'm disabled and have lost £340 a month under the new regime. That'll account for the £300.00 I'm in debt to my gas and electric supplier. Oh, and I'm a carer. I save the government a fortune, but hey, you go on about a hugely bloated welfare state a state of which you obviously know nothing, and care even less. Oh, and should you bother to do some research; two points, 1) Try reading the threads because figures have been posted and 2) Take a look at just how much of said welfare budget goes on unemployment etc.
Hmm

JoffreyBaratheon · 27/10/2017 20:22

The film "I, Daniel Blake" absolutely nails the current benefits system. Shame on the tories and every single one of their voters.

The petition on this element of UC is finally 'approved' so now live. Please do sign and share widely.

Be nice to abolish it altogether....

ManateeEquineOHara · 27/10/2017 22:14

I agree gluteus and have also signed that petition, however I also think there is a value in highlighting all of the injustices of UC separately. Additionally there will be some who still think UC is a good idea, but surely nobody can agree with this particular element of it!?

TheSassyVampireAIBUToLoveBlood · 27/10/2017 22:15

Signed both Smile

gluteustothemaximus · 27/10/2017 22:30

Yes, Manatee, completely agree. I think it's highly unlikely it will be abolished; they've spent millions on implementing it.

Both signed. One is fantasy, one is a bit more realistic (I hope).

ManateeEquineOHara · 27/10/2017 22:36

Thanks, please do all share as much as possible too. Vague hope that by demonstrating how utterly stupid this is the machine of Tory implementation can be prompted to at least be halted/reviewed/amended.

FangsAlot · 27/10/2017 22:50

Signed both

christmaspudding1 · 27/10/2017 23:04

both signed now,not far of the 10k that we really need

BabychamSocialist · 28/10/2017 02:17

SusannahL

Call me crazy, but personally I don't think people should be on gruel and freezing to death purely because they're unemployed or too disabled/ill to work.

Do you really think £72/£105 a week is really a King's ransom? I certainly couldn't live on it, but we expect disabled and poor people to manage on it.

It's already been proven that benefit cuts actually make things worse, because people are put into a precarious position by the low benefits that they do their best to make sure nothing changes, as they fear losing their home/going hungry etc.

That is barmy!! I’m so grateful I don’t have to rely on this nonsense system.,

Didn’t one die because his insulin couldn’t be kept cold as he couldn’t pay his electric bill ?

I think pharmacies can store medication for you.

FlaviaAlbia · 28/10/2017 08:29

Gosh, that'll be handy when you need insulin in an emergency KathArtic Hmm

ManateeEquineOHara · 28/10/2017 08:51

Wow, can you imagine having to go to the pharmacy before meals for your insulin!? Though actually...Tory Britain, this kind of stuff gets justified somehow doesn't it...

CallingPeopleACuntOnFb · 28/10/2017 08:54

Kath you’re an absolute fucking troll

Fuck off

CallingPeopleACuntOnFb · 28/10/2017 08:56
