Over lunch a colleague, who I know is a Tory voter because she told me so herself, was complaining that, as public sector workers, we won't be getting a pay rise. It took all my self control to not make a scene in the staff room! What did she expect to happen?
AIBU to want to point out to her that she got just what she asked for?

I had to bit my tongue the other day talking to a Tory voter complain about the NHS being understaffed.

I think it would have been unreasonable of you to make what is basically a personal attack on her based on her political beliefs.

One of my colleagues who voted Tory was talking about the awful pressure his wife (an NHS midwife) is facing at work.

You can but when they start implementing their policies you have to remember that you put them in there.

Clearly not as thick as those who would rather our country look like a Venezuela very soon!

As another poster said, you don’t have to agree with all of a political parties policies to still vote for them.

I know plenty of labour voters who have still purchased their Council house at a huge discount under the Tory right to buy scheme.

Part of the problem is the pressure on people to exercise their right to vote... 'This is what we fought for', memes of the suffragettes and FB 'I voted' buttons....

Whilst I agree that voting is a democratic duty, there is also a duty to inform yourself and make sure you understand exactly what you are voting for.

Having said that, although too young at the time I'd have probably voted for Tony Blair in 97....and was horrified at the Iraq war.

There's so little accountability in both the media and politics. I sometimes feel you might as well just do ippy-dippy rather than look at the manifestos as who knows what will happen when they're in power.

But surely you could also argue that it was Labour who allowed in so many migrants and that pushed down wages, especially in the north? I think both parties (and the Lib Dem) are responsible for the shitty state of the country!

Labour did a lot of damage to the country between 1997-2010 and the Tories continue to make it worse. Politicians will almost always vote for what is best for them and their families as individuals than for what is good for the majority of people. They are all self serving, power hungry, greedy pigs, that is why they go into politics in the first place!

I suppose you're not BU in the same manner if Labour were in government and there was a lack of pay rise and a Labour voter was moaning about a pay rise. But I think the general theme of this thread is supposed to go Labour = good, pay rises, a fantastic NHS and Tories = Evil, forced to work for pennies, and a crumbling NHS they are trying to privatise, amirite?

I voted for Labour and moaned that they took us to war and voted for them again after and the knock on effect that has had

There isn’t a party that many support all their policies even those that represent the party in parliament don’t all agree

And if Labour had been in power for the last seven years do you really think there wouldn’t be cuts to services would they would have increased taxes enough to fill the gap in the budgets it would have just been spun a different way

YANBU at all! There's someone I see online who says she is agoraphobic. Her family is extremely wealthy, she doesn't work or pay a penny, and it seems like they give her all her money. She's a Tory voter, and I constantly have to bite my lip about how bloody privileged she is, if she was from a poor family she'd be up shits creek with her condition.

The difference between voting for Tony Blair and voting for the Tories is that going to war (for those using it as an example) wasn't in the manifesto. Pay freezes etc. were.

I don't understand this 'all politicians are bad' lark. The Tories flagship policies for the last 8 years have been about cutting: public services, infrastructure investment, social security (except pensions) and public sector pay.

If you didn't agree with those priorities, surely you would not vote Tory? There was certainly a choice of policies.

If you did vote Tory, presumably you think those things are good for the UK, or at least the people you care about. If you vote Tory and work in the public sector you made a conscious choice to donate your money to the wealthy- through wage cuts to pay for their tax cuts.

The only thing you perhaps could complain about, is that this government is much more incompetent than anyone could have predicted.

If you are in the staffroom does that mean you work in a school? In which case tell her both teachers snd support staff are getting a pay rise.
