DH returned from a business trip with a surprise...

That he's started growing a beard.

It looks like he's been on a five day bender, and he's all prickly to kiss. Angry

But my AIBU is... he promised me a surprise. I thought it might be a large box of macarons. Or a tiny box of Hévin chocolates.

AIBU that a face full of prickly stubble is not a surprise?

(I think it goes without saying. But just in case: LIGHTHEARTED)

He's shaved now. Grin

And 'found' me something yummy in his suitcase. Hmm

He thinks he's most amusing.

I told him the joke was almost on him, since we have a teenager-free weekend and my stitches are finally completely healed

Aww bless; it's not as if you don't know this already, but he really is ... err ... lovely Wink

I'd ask what he'd brought you in his suitcase, but after the stitches remark I'd better not risk it Grin

Somerville · 21/10/2017 16:26

Ha! Nothing filthy!
Little bottle of 2007 Sauternes (dessert wine). And he's ordered a case

Gah! Sorry, feeding and typing

... isn't working well now that baby is learning to wriggle!

Surprise him with really greasy hair or stubbly legs next time.

fairyofallthings · 21/10/2017 17:51

I thought it was going to be a hickey or lipstick mark. Definitely worse surprises!

The hickey is probably under the beard!

strongasmeringue · 21/10/2017 17:52

Dh shaves pretty much every day . I like a bit of stubble. I'll never know what he would look like with a beard but I'm sure I'd laugh.

Flozle · 21/10/2017 18:39

A bloke I worked with asked me to surprise him when I asked if he wanted anything brought back when I went out to get lunch.

I brought him a mousetrap.

MelbourneClown03 · 21/10/2017 18:58

Beard today, braces and a man bun next Hmm

strongasmeringue · 21/10/2017 19:54

Nah, he's far to cool for that, Melbourne.

Fairhair · 21/10/2017 20:15

My brother shaved his beard off as a Christmas surprise once. My SIL cried when she saw him and she and his family (extended) begged him to grow it back. He looked awful without it!

Bobbi73 · 21/10/2017 20:48

My DH has taken to growing a beard after being clean shaven as long as I've known him (20 years). I hate it so much and can't bear to touch it let alone kiss him. I now live like a nun hoping he'll crack and shave the disgusting unhygienic thing off!
He said it was a surprise, it just wasn't a good one..
What is with all the beards? It's like 1972 out there

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/10/2017 21:16

Little bottle of 2007 Sauternes (dessert wine). And he's ordered a case

So now you can enjoy a nice glass again, he even bothered to think ahead and do that for you? I'll say it again ... if you ever get tired of this paragon you'll simply have to let us know

Then we can all fight for a place in the line Wink

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/10/2017 22:35

I fucking love Sauternes. And a decent Tokaj. Niagara ice wine. Noble rot from Oz. In fact pretty much any non-raisin-y dessert wine. Fabulous stuff.

I reckon your DH has redeemed himself!

somethingDifferent38 · 22/10/2017 00:22

My DH once brought me back a live lobster because 'there was nothing else to buy' in Helsinki airport. hmm
Conjures up images of an airport full of fishermen and farmers pedalling livestock just as you get on the plane Grin. But I have to say, I've been to Helsinki airport several times, and never saw any live sea creatures in the duty free hall - AND, it contained perfectly good chocolate...
I can only imagine the DH in question confused boats with planes, and came home via a trawler in Helsinki harbour!

Purplealienpuke · 22/10/2017 06:53

Well if it'll be long enough for beard baubles by Christmas YABU as IMO they're awesome!
If it's going to be a silly stubbly non committal beard you run the risk of being stuck together Velcro style in your own 'stubble' while he's making up for NOT BRINGING CHOCOLATE!! 😈

OhBigHairyBollocks · 22/10/2017 09:06

I'm so glad to hear he is still lovely 😊😊

and that he's shaved it off

DP grew a moustache for Movember two years ago. He looked horrendous. A bit like Tom Selleck...

Somerville · 22/10/2017 17:05

Those are my favourites too Hearts.

I'd decided the bit about a case was braggy and was trying to delete it when baby started wriggling and the post sent. So thanks for not calling me a boastful bitch anyone 😂
Apparently he owed me it because while I was pregnant I got moody about missing out on all the fun stuff, and told him he owed me a case of dessert wine. (I don't remember the conversation but it sounds moody and demanding enough for me to have said it!)

Anyway, I'm happy to have my smooth-jawed DH back. Commiserations to all of you with hairy DP's who don't like it. And good on all of you who have got the scruff to the (ahem) pleasurable length. Wink

DH's beard is so soft for being past the stubble stage.

EvilDemonRaspberryOverlord · 22/10/2017 17:24

Some beards are okay. My ex decided he was going to shave his face to stubble, while leaving a small square of hair under his lip. Sort of like a hitler moustache but below the lips. Looks awful. was not the reason I left

Somerville · 24/10/2017 18:37

Hitler moustache, eek! Seriously unattractive look.
