DH returned from a business trip with a surprise...

That he's started growing a beard.

It looks like he's been on a five day bender, and he's all prickly to kiss. Angry

But my AIBU is... he promised me a surprise. I thought it might be a large box of macarons. Or a tiny box of Hévin chocolates.

AIBU that a face full of prickly stubble is not a surprise?

(I think it goes without saying. But just in case: LIGHTHEARTED)

No man looks worse with a beard. The stubble burn will stop once it gets a bit longer!

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 20/10/2017 15:10

Has everyone else missed that SecretSmellies got a surprise puppy?! That's one of those film sequences that you actually want to come true...

MoosicalDaisy · 20/10/2017 15:13

YABU macarons are gross

SecretSmellies · 20/10/2017 15:14

Best surprise ever. :) (Beards don't do it for me).

headinhands · 20/10/2017 15:18

Love my husband with a beard. Makes mine me feel better about mine Wink

Somerville · 20/10/2017 15:20

I'm pretty sure he actually does look worse, Diego. Though my issue is maybe more that it makes him look so different. It's weird looking at him - like there's a stranger in my house. I actually feel slightly shy. (That's weird, isn't it?)

My DH just grows wire wool out of his face. It is like kissing a Brillo pad. He looks like a homeless person. And gets bits of food in it like Mr Twit.

I've put up with his periodic forays into facial hair for years. But something in me just snapped earlier this year. I told him that henceforth he had to be clean shaven to get anywhere near me, because I was sick of being scratched and sore. So he has complied and our sex life has improved too. I should have put my foot down years ago.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/10/2017 15:25

No longer quite such a "lickable jaw" then? Wink Grin

Absolutely thrilled everything's going so well for you ...

gamerchick · 20/10/2017 15:29

It’s the wife repellent in this house. The husband just looks like a homeless man and ends up shaving it off when I can’t look at him never mind kiss him.

There’s probably a reversed outrage in there somewhere but I don’t give a toss. Wink

Bitsandbobsalot · 20/10/2017 15:32

My dh has I beard and I love it. I get quite upset when it comes to shaving off time. He gives me 7 days notice so I can mentally prepare for it to be gone now Grin.
I’m surprised so many of you don’t like them tbh.

Somerville · 20/10/2017 15:35

Shhhh Puzzled Blush

OnionKnight
OK so if you have to buy overpriced beard oil why dont you do the decent thing and get macaroon flavour?
That was my idea and no one can nick it.

HouseholdWords · 20/10/2017 15:44

Oh, I thought the thread title was the first line of an updated version of Wuthering Heights

RubyGoat · 20/10/2017 15:46

My DH has a beard. Every so often I am mean & make comments about Mr Twit. Usually only when he lets it get unfeasibly long though. Then I french plait it in a silly fashion while he's asleep... and by strange coincidence he decides to trim it shortly afterwards. GrinBlushGrin

An unrequested beard?
That is technically a shock, not a surprise.

Somerville · 20/10/2017 15:52

Flavoured beard oil and French plaiting facial hair Envy Envy Envy ( - not envy)

I have to go out soon with the grizzly stranger who is my husband. I shall insist on driving so I don't have to look at him. Confused

Pluck them out

ONE. BY. ONE

Somerville · 20/10/2017 15:55

An unrequested shock, exactly that. Beard is rather generous, as its only 5 days growth.

Part of what looks weird is that he has mid-blond head hair and eyebrows, but his facial hair grows in quite a bit darker. Confused

Oh I love a beard. I get sad when mine shaves it off!

Alicecooperslovechild · 20/10/2017 16:23

Beard baubles for Christmas then.

Somerville · 20/10/2017 16:59

Please tell me that beard baubles aren't a real thing?
This whole beardy sub-culture is liking falling down the rabbit hole.

DP did something similar to me early in our relationship. Told me he had a special surprise for when I came home. He’d shaved all his hair off & had a no.3 all over his head. I was soooo disappointed!

He does have a lovely beard now (many years later) he got beard baubles & bells in his secret Santa last year. They went to the charity shop! We spend lots on overpriced oils that are really hard to source too

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/10/2017 17:13

Sorry Grin
