Not too bad really, I'm very lucky menstrual wise.

Rage
Tears

Horrible sciatica
Boobs that hurt when I walk

Very strangely I get a house work craze about 2 days before AF. like nesting but intense and a bit angrily

Very very much worse when on hormonal contraceptives. Tried everything

Recently started agnus castus and much improved

CrabappleCake · 20/10/2017 08:14

I was going to mention Agnus castus for the RAge. I'm perimenopausal and HRT helped, lower dose than contraceptive pill which I didn't get on with.

Near Suicidal most months while on pill.

Teddy7878 · 20/10/2017 08:28

Agnus castus helped my PMS but gave me irregular periods which is very unlike me as mine are always clockwork 28 day cycles and I always ovulate the same day of the month (can feel the cramps and get the ewcm). That might have just been me though as my sister took it too and didn't get irregular periods. Once I stopped mine went back to being clockwork again.

I definitely think more understanding should be given by employers about women occasionally needing a day or two out of work if their PMS gets terrible. Having suicidal thoughts and exhaustion and toilet troubles can make work absolute torture. A lot of men I know just roll their eyes when they hear women discussing periods though. I had an ex who said women all milked it for attention

Because of this thread I'm much more aware of my symptoms leading up to my period. It's odd but I've never really put them all together before 🤔

I've woken up today with terrible stomach cramps and nausea.
I'm really not looking forward to work!

Teddy7878 · 20/10/2017 10:37

I'm getting bad lower back pain. Period due in 6 days! Oh the joys!

OP posts:
knowwhereyourheadis · 20/10/2017 11:02

I also have the constipation/leading to diarrhoea when it arrives.
Sometimes itchy down there.
Walnut sized bladder.
Eating for Britain.

But the horn! oh my god the horn! about 4-5 days before.
I'd shag anything that moves!
I've heard that's my age, ovulation shouldn't be wasted because they are running out. It's probably just that I'm filth though.

knowwhereyourheadis · 20/10/2017 11:04

** disclaimer - I don't ACTUALLY shag anything that moves.....

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 20/10/2017 15:47

But that is more of a silver lining really knowwhereyourheadis. It's one symptom I would love to add to my listGrin

Teddy7878 · 23/10/2017 15:17

Due on in 3 days and feel like crap today! Very bloated and crampy

OP posts:
Katyb1310 · 23/10/2017 18:07

Exhaustion
Sore boobs
Headaches

deepestdarkestperu · 23/10/2017 22:44

Does anybody feel rubbish around the last couple of days of their period? I often weak and lightheaded.

Me! I'm just at the end of my cycle now and I feel REALLY tired and headachy. I only get a couple of days of heavy bleeding, but the last few days make me feel rubbish even though the bleeding is really light. Odd!

bananafish81 · 23/10/2017 22:48

Slight grumbling low level crampy feeling
Bit crotchety
Nothing really to speak of

OliviaStabler · 23/10/2017 22:55

I have a mirena coil now so no periods anymore but here were my symptoms :

Constipation during period
Huge hunger pangs beforehand, eating food I didn't even want
Pain in the muscles of my back
Anger

LemonysSnicket · 23/10/2017 23:21

Angry and teary mood swings
Worsened anxiety
Minor cramps
Sore breasts
Bloating

Macaroni46 · 24/10/2017 07:11

Thanks for starting this thread. It’s helpful to hear other women’s experiences.
Some months I get very sore heavy breasts, can be as long as from day 14, but usually for about 4-6 days and sometimes not at all! When they’re really bad and have become painful two weeks before this gets me down but otherwise my mood isn’t particularly affected by PMS.
Other symptoms - constipation and clumsiness.
Actual periods themselves are short and light and this has been more in recent years (late 40s). First day of period backache.

gabsdot · 24/10/2017 07:51

I'm 47 and until recently never had PMS.
It's actually kicking off today. I am in foul humour, fit to kill my entire family, cramps, sore breasts. Tomorrow I'll feel very low and tearful for a couple of days them I'll be back to normal.
I can't wait for menopause. I'm fed up with periods.

doughnutobssession · 24/10/2017 08:25

From half way through my cycle(2 weeks before my period) I get heavy sore boobs, and nausea. Then the week before I get depressed, anxiety, short tempered, insomnia and also night sweats. Then my period starts and I have just normal stomach/top of inner thigh leg cramps. Have just started the pill to try and stop some of these symptoms. Seems to be working well

ChiBox · 24/10/2017 08:30

Was ok till mid 30's now 5-7 days before I am angry and hungry. My anger was affecting my relationship so I decided to take evening primrose, read that vitamin D was good for SAD and I have heavy peroids so added iron too. I was very sceptical but it worked.

Ah you lucky thing.
I've got a Mirena, had it for 3-4 years but I still get at least 5 days bleed.
Mind you, that's an improvement on the 10 I used to get.....

And people look for other reasons why young women are more prone to mental illness than young men. As someone who endured much ineffective psychiatric treatment for many years and only recognised my PMDD in later life for what it actually was, I feel very strongly that girls and young women should be better prepared for reproductive life and better treated when they have problems. Threads like this have been a revelation - I had no idea so many women suffered so badly.
