As aptly dubbed by his own Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.

And as I love giving you images to haunt your dreams, here’s another one, blasphemously titled ‘Our Lord and Saviour’.

This has gone out to his fanbase. You couldn't make it up.

Indeed.

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 14:24

And that email? It will receive lots of replies but it’s still an own goal. In the long term.

Haven’t listened to this yet but a podcast with preet bharara and bill Browder is bound to be interesting

PerkingFaintly · 26/10/2017 14:40

That email, Rousette!

"No matter what President Trump does, someone is going to be upset, unhappy, and out to get him.

"That is where you come in (name of supporter). There is one thing President Trump needs more than anything else — he needs our support."

If it's real (and it might not be), it means even the twice-daily folder of positive coverage isn't doing it for him. Never mind the ego-stroking in person by staff. They've had to go looking for new sources of ego-food.

That would be rather an escalation.

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 14:50

Thanks, Pain. I’ll listen to it later.

Roussette · 26/10/2017 15:07

No ideas if it's true Pain but I sort of think so as they're always begging for money from the supporters with click boxes starting high, so I imagine this is just one step on and maybe the WH aide who is in charge of the good news press brought to him each morning, can't find any!

Roussette · 26/10/2017 15:08

Sorry. Meant to say Perking not Pain!

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 15:30

I have to confess, Perking, that I did - and do - have my doubts about its veracity. (It seems like such an incredibly.........inept thing to do.) Still, I suppose some dewy-eyed intern might just have been watching a reprise of ‘Washington Behind Closed Doors’..............Grin

PerkingFaintly · 26/10/2017 15:36

Entirely believable though, as Roussette describes...

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 15:38

Oh Yes. Wink

PerkingFaintly · 26/10/2017 15:50

Woah! For clarity, that's an official announcement by Twitter that they are "off-boarding" (banning?) advertising by Russia Today aka RT and Sputnik on Twitter.

Announcement: RT and Sputnik Advertising

By Twitter PublicPolicy
Thursday, 26 October 2017
"Twitter has made the policy decision to off-board advertising from all accounts owned by Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, effective immediately. This decision was based on the retrospective work we've been doing around the 2016 U.S. election and the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that both RT and Sputnik attempted to interfere with the election on behalf of the Russian government. We did not come to this decision lightly, and are taking this step now as part of our ongoing commitment to help protect the integrity of the user experience on Twitter."

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 15:55

Oh.

ringle · 26/10/2017 16:05

a bit late to the party as ever, but I have a few questions/ things I have (very slowly!) noticed.

One of you posted the excellent speech by Senator Flake, and that video linked to a reaction by John McCain (who I understand is ill with a brain tumour and so therefore maybe I need to be careful how much I read in).

question: when Flake says "Mr President" is he talking to Trump or some sort of president-of-the-Senate?

question: is it normal in American politics for someone to be praised for their ancestry? This would be beyond unacceptable in this country. I know John McCain is an older, and ill, man, but I was astonished that he chose to praise Senator Flake for matters such as being descended from an old American family, having a town "Snowflake" named after his family, and having a wife who is "beautiful".

If someone said that in the house of commons about David Cameron (who was, I think, very posh, though whether it was old or new money I don't know) that would have been considered a disastrous tactic.

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light. It did make me wonder whether Flake/McCain represent (in some people's eyes) the old entrenched privileged that they hate? That's certainly the reaction they'd get amongst voters here I think. But this is a very different country, where footballers happily sing the national anthem but the leader of the opposition doesn't.

PainInTheEerie · 26/10/2017 16:11

Well, Trump constantly boasts about his heritage and about his inherited wealth and about how he likes to promote other wealthy people, and he appoints his family to businesses and to government.

So it certainly doesn't look like his supporters have much objection to entrenched privilege.

Other people might have, of course.

cozietoesie · 26/10/2017 16:19

He was referring to 45. Smile

PerkingFaintly · 26/10/2017 16:25

Also, UK voters made Old Etonian David Cameron prime minister not once but twice, with hereditary millionaire and fellow Bullingdon Club member George Osborne for sidekick as Chancellor.

While privately-educated commodities-trader Nigel Farage was very popular among UKIP voters.

So while some UK voters might not be keen on it, clearly entrenched privilege is perfectly acceptable to others.
