To say that vegans can't really like food?

I mean they don't eat most food so most cooking shows and recipe books are pointless for them. Going out for meals a chore. Birthdays, celebrations, dates... so much of is centred around food which they have to deny themselves and pick around.

I have nothing against vegans and everyone has the absolute right to eat what they want. But trying to cater for a vegan along with other guests is bloody hard work.

Reckon I'll get roasted for this.

Wow! bingbong I've never seen that joke before. 😴 Seriously, you angry meat eaters need to stop obsessing about vegans. It's not healthy. 😆

Slimthistime · 13/10/2017 22:29

I'm beginning to think I should become vegan if it will get me out of invitations Grin

PinkPanther27 · 13/10/2017 22:30

Bingbong sounds delightful. Quick hide the apples, no vegan shit here 😂😂😂😂

Birdsgottafly · 13/10/2017 22:30

"I had a vegan chocolate cake once, it was rank"

Whereas Chocolate pecan Brownies are lovely.

I agree with not going for substitutes, just open your thinking, although I praise the creators of Kettle crisps.

The average Western diet isn't doing is any favours and as said, we are running out of antibiotics because of extreme meat production.

SentimentalLentil · 13/10/2017 22:31

That's the dream slim

butterybean · 13/10/2017 22:31

I own a catering business that usually does a range of food inc meat. We did a 4 day vegan festival last year and loved it. No contamination issues, very little that needed to be in the fridge, fresh, healthy, colourful. Cheap ingredients.

If it wasn't for DP and his older children I'd consider vegan cooking for at least 60% of the week. You just have to use different ingredients and cook from scratch more. I make a mean vegan roast dinner that is seriously tasty. Bosh on Facebook is all vegan has lovely food recipes on it.

Its a huge new food trend and the environmental benefits are significant. YABU, sorry op. If you have vegan visitors do herbal tea and a vegan carrot cake. Easy. (applesauce instead of eggs). Or ask them to cook, they'd probably love to sjoe you some vegan cuisine.

QueenJane · 13/10/2017 22:33

I'm a meat-eating famer's daughter and I and I have no idea what you hoped to gain from this thread. It's goady bollocks. Vegan is pretty easy nowadays, and I'm sure if you told your vegan friends that you were struggling with making them food, they'd be happy to bring their own.

tillytown · 13/10/2017 22:33

Bingbong have you never eaten a salad? Fruit? Chips? Or are they not vegan to you?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/10/2017 22:34

Try watching a couple of those PETA videos of humane slaughter before you tuck into your roast and tell me your cool with it

Hmmm, I have huge issues with PETA and avoid anything to do with them.

MsJudgemental · 13/10/2017 22:34

Bing you have a problem.....as in you don’t seem to know anything about food if you think all the things I mentioned are somehow weird or a pita. Just keep eating your burgers and chicken nuggets, dear.

just5morepeas · 13/10/2017 22:35

The only vegans/vegetarians I've met have been people who use it as an excuse - I think - to be very picky eaters and reduce the amount of food they eat below what most people have. And none of them seem to eat many vegetables!

But each to their own.

The only thing that annoys me is when you get very self righteous vegans who preach on at you about things they have very little idea about and don't look into the moral issues surrounding the food they eat themselves.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 13/10/2017 22:35

YABU

Also, your thread title and post dont match which is bloody annoying

PovertyPain · 13/10/2017 22:35

I'd love all the posters that bang on about preaching vegans to tell me how many they know and how many times they have witnessed said preaching. Or is it more a case of a meat eater starting the discussion by the usual ^"but what do you eat?", in the usual incredulous voice. The vegan then have to 'defend' their choices, which the meat eater then takes as preaching. 🤔 Which is my experience nearly every fucking time I go out for a meal and someone suddenly realises I'm vegan, as I respectfully and quietly inform the waiter/waitress.

SentimentalLentil · 13/10/2017 22:36

I'm not sure why people think vegan food takes more time to prepare. I am laaaaaaaaaaazy and manage to make really delicious meals every night in my slow cooker, granted I eat a lot of stews, curries and broths but that's because like I said I'm lazy and I come home late and need my food to be ready for me or I'll buy chips.
I find it much quicker than meat because you don't need to faff with the meat and like a pp says there's no worry of cross contamination.

SpearmintTea · 13/10/2017 22:38

I'm not vegan, but our local Thai restaurant does some delicious vegan dishes!

SentimentalLentil · 13/10/2017 22:39

'The only vegans/vegetarians I've met have been people who use it as an excuse - I think - to be very picky eaters and reduce the amount of food they eat below what most people have. And none of them seem to eat many vegetables!'

You can't have met many vegans then, all my mates are greedy fuckers and we eat loads of vegetables.

Catsrus · 13/10/2017 22:39

I love it when my vegan dd is cooking - particularly if she’s trying a new recipe. Her meals are delicious. You just lack imagination OP Grin

Slimthistime · 13/10/2017 22:41

Just "don't look into the moral issues surrounding the food they eat themselves."

Is this another weird thing about meat substitutes? I'm not sure what moral issues there were around vegan food in my grandparents' days....

Is the aubergine crying when I slice it?

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/10/2017 22:42

It's probably a reference to soya production and palm oil.

howrudeforme · 13/10/2017 22:43

Asian food excellent for vegans. Never been that fussed about meat and dairy substitutes.

I'm not vegan but had amazingly simple dhal and rice. Super tasty and wholesome. Yesterday had grilled courgettes with toasted tomato bread.

When vegan friends come for lunch I make bean salad, pan con tomate and some aubergine type baba ganoush.

If I were vegan, I'd meal plan.

Slimthistime · 13/10/2017 22:44

Beauty, they are not linked to any vegan diet I've seen among friends and family. Probably more in mine!

potatoscowls · 13/10/2017 22:44

Lol you haven't met me have you OP

potatoscowls · 13/10/2017 22:46

I deny myself nothing
Today:
Cereal, fruit, yoghurt
Samosa
Sandwich meal deal
Doughnuts
BBQ ribs, chips, mac 'n' cheeze, salad
Apple crumble, custard, ice cream, squirty cream
More ice cream
A load of fruit
Like 3 bagels

SentimentalLentil · 13/10/2017 22:46

slim
She's talking about food miles of quinoa and the gang crime surrounding avocados I imagine, possibly the deforestation caused by soy (obviously forgetting that the majority of soy is fed to livestock), and maybe the fact that wildlife gets killed in the production of vegetables.

Obviously it's only vegans eating quinoa, avocados and vegetables and it's only possible to care about one thing at a time.

potatoscowls · 13/10/2017 22:47

I haven't put on 2.5 stone since the spring because i "dont like food" (have been vegan 3 years though)
