To hate a much loved film with so much passion

I hate the fucking annoying, saccharine voiceover at the opening airport scene
I hate Emma Thompsons irritating character and hammy acting
I hate Hugh Grants insistence on playing himself
I hate how we're supposed to find Martines character so salt of the earth and endearing- shes fucking annoying
I hate the Liam Neeson storyline and his weird relationship with his weird woolly haired kid who should be getting a life
Im left unmoved by Laura Linney
I absolutely cannt stand Keira Knightleys faux coy girlish smile and that entire weird stalker relationship
I can just about stomach Mr Darcy and his Portuguese squeeze...JUST ABOUT
Bill Nighy - once you've seen the song performed once you're like...whatever...zzzzzz

I find the whole film absolutely sick making and toe curling and yet every Christmas DM forces us to watch it.

The only Tarantino film I like is True Romance but he only wrote that one as opposed to writing and directing it so take from that what you will.

Funkyslippers · 06/10/2017 15:12

I also hate Grease and Notting Hill

Anymajordude · 06/10/2017 15:14

Rookiemere it was Gina McKee inThe Forsyte Saga not Kiera.

DrPill · 06/10/2017 15:14

YANBU - apart from Emma Thompson who acts in an incredibly moving way despite the crap script and storyline. The crying is scene is brilliant acting.

Bicyclethief · 06/10/2017 15:15

Funky wash your mouth out (Grease).

rookiemere · 06/10/2017 15:16

Yes Anymajordude I did mean Gina McKee ( should have said so) although agree that Keira is not much of an actress

DrPill · 06/10/2017 15:16

PS La La Land is also very over-rated. It's playing homage to clasic musicals without being as good as any of them. Emma Stone's performance is very good. Ryan with the weird nostrils is not very good at all.

ShatnersWig · 06/10/2017 15:19

Oh, as someone who works in theatre, I have never ever found Gina McKee to be a good actress and is incredibly overrated.

C619 · 06/10/2017 15:21

whoa... hold on there @Bicyclethief

Muppets Christmas carol and Scrooged are amazing.

Best Xmas movie = Batman Returns.

notable mentions = Home Alone 2, Die Hard....

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 06/10/2017 15:23

Yabvvu. I love it.

However I do agree that Keira Knightly deserves a slapping for the “Ai look quaite pretty!!” line.

In fact I think that rather than royalties whenever the film is shown she should get a slap.

Jiggler · 06/10/2017 15:23

Damian Lewis was meant to be punching above his weight by marrying her, when clearly he was - and is - an uber hunk who could have anyone he wanted.

Ha ha, I was with you until you described Damian Lewis as an uber hunk Grin

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 06/10/2017 15:23

I flipping love Love Actually. And I won’t hear a bad word about it. You bloody sickos!

Bicyclethief · 06/10/2017 15:24

C691- I stand corrected and yes to young Bruce Willis in Die Hard😍

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 06/10/2017 15:25

Say what you like about kk though. Grin

Jiggler · 06/10/2017 15:27

Die Hard, Muppet Christmas Carol are ace.

Home Alone is tedious. I think the people who love it grew up with it whereas I was about 16 when it was released. So it passed me by.

KC225 · 06/10/2017 15:28

It is a bad film. I hated it when I saw it at the cinema. And I am now in Sweden and they show it all the bloody time. It's so bloody smug.

TeddyBoy14 · 06/10/2017 15:31

It's my favourite film too. And, as far as I'm aware, have not being Lobotomised?

Horses for courses, and all that...

rookiemere · 06/10/2017 15:32

I am so old that I saw Dirty Dancing in the cinema as a teenager and didn't really get the attraction even then.

Titanic was also rubbish.

Oh and Bridesmaids was tosh, my friends were cackling their way through it whilst I ate popcorn stoically, not getting it at all.

Controversially, War Horse is Bore Horse in our household.

I've not seen Mamma Mia, but I do remember my 6 yr old goddaughter singing enthusiastically "Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight"

But Damian Lewis is god-like and handsome. Always.

BakerCandlestickmaker · 06/10/2017 15:32

Gina McKee was miscast as "Ireenee".

Ioan Gruffydd ( sp?) couldn't resist her either. It made no sense.

BakerCandlestickmaker · 06/10/2017 15:34

And she ended up with Rupert Graves for goodness sakes!

scrabbler3 · 06/10/2017 15:36

The Sound of Music is great. I loved it when the nun who'd previously been mean to Maria, sabotaged the Nazis' car.

Love Actually had some nice elements but on the whole I'm not a fan. I wish they'd retained Frances de la Tour's scenes and got rid of Keira K's. Hugh Grant and MM were painful to watch, with zero credibility/chemistry.

expatinscotland · 06/10/2017 15:37

Bridget Jones is a silly cunt and there's no way either of those guys would have hung around.

senua · 06/10/2017 15:38

Controversially, War Horse is Bore Horse in our household.

Another schmaltz-fest. I wonder who wrote that one?

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2017 15:39

Bore horse! Never seen it. My Brother saw the stage show, no bettter apparently. Mechanical horses did nothing for them.
Horses for courses i guess.
Hated Bridesmaids. The scene on the plane went on and on. Food poisoning that quickly? Only nice thing was the cupcake she made.m

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 06/10/2017 15:40

The Bridget Jones column/book was so, so much better than those films.
