To be really looking forward to going to ikea? What should I buy?

I haven't been to ikea for a couple of years, and next week will be less than half an hour from one, so of course I'm going. I've been looking through the website to try to make a list, but it doesn't work so well for browsing when you don't know what you're looking for. What are your ikea must haves? And AIBU for looking forward to going?

Underwear octopus - it's an octopus full of clothes pegs for you to hang your underwear on. I have six of them!
Their food bags are my preferred brand, too. Tealights. Plants, lots of cheap plants and pots. Zip up clothes storage box/bag thingies. Glasses. Glass Tupperware. I have a thing that goes into the corner cupboard (fits in non-Ikea kitchen too) and it swivels out so I can actually access stuff at the back. Kitchen drawer divider. Indistrial lighting. They sell a little mustard coloured plastic step/stool that I use constantly. Loads of great kids stuff, Christmassy bits like napkins, placemats, things for kids. Food clips! If you've got lots that needs framing, measure and write a list of needed sizes.

Food wise: the veg cake type things in the freezer. Meatballs. Vegballs. Lingonberry jam to go with. Packs of the brown sauce. Crayfish frozen - just tastes like lobster. Packs of Daim. Almondy Daim cake. I like their ketchup, mustard and pickles for burgers. The crispy dried onions in the little pot. Their crisps! Packs of salmon, and don't forget the lemony sauce. My husband always gets their jarred fishy stuff. My kids love their ABC biscuits, I usually give them with ice cream and sprinkles. Get a hotdog on your way out. Bosh!

greendale17 · 06/10/2017 07:13

Don't go on a Sarurday- it really is hellish

Buttonmoonisaloon · 06/10/2017 07:15

I've never seen so many people get excited by Sandwich bags in one place!

* I've never seen so many people get excited by Sandwich bags in one place!*

Or over a sock dryer oops sorry I mean underwear octopus 😂

Frouby · 06/10/2017 07:21

I am Sheffied area Bike. Am desperate to go.

However. Ds (3) doesn't cope with an Aldi big shop. Dd (13) is mithering about her room being redecorated and will have a meltdown and want everything. Dp can't stand the place and will probably lose the will to live within minutes.

Ds only goes to nursery 3 hours so that rules out a daytime mooch as it's about 30 minutes away. And dp and working 7 days a week at the moment.

Am debating paying for a full days nursery for ds just to go.

I want some type of shoe storage, some type of storage for ds bedroom and possibly lots of other bits of shite.

Bubblysqueak · 06/10/2017 07:22

Daim cake !!!

MsHippo · 06/10/2017 07:24

Ooooh a cheese grater!! They have these great ones that are like a plastic tub with the grater in the lid and they are revolutionary! So much less cheese grating mess 😊

NC4now · 06/10/2017 07:28

We're getting an IKEA, five minutes away. I'm beyond excited.
Picture frames, glasses and meatballs I say!

NameChanger22 · 06/10/2017 07:33

Vegi meatballs. Towels. Candles. Pictures frames.

I really wish they would open one near me. But we do have a Tiger, which is nearly as good.

Frouby - Ikea have a free creche. It's one of the reasons I went so much when dd was little.

mygorgeousmilo · 06/10/2017 07:34

Frouby chuck him in the play area! He'll love it, you can shop in peace and then pick him up for meatballs and lingonberry juice in the cafe. The last time my kids went they had Shrek on a little tv. My kids are always asking when they can go back there to watch it. I have mentioned that they have Shrek at home but it's just not the same apparently!

Can I ask - for those of you currently living in a cruel world without an underwear octopus - How do you dry your socks n stuff?

Caenea · 06/10/2017 07:34

My sister is moving house soon.

She says I can go to IKEA with her and help her buy new house things.

I am more excited about this than I am about Christmas. I bloody love IKEA. It's all about the Daim bars and the rug department imho. I like looking at the snazzier rugs and wishing I had the interior design gumption to purchase one.

ScrabbleFiend · 06/10/2017 07:35

Second their towels. Bought a load in January and they're as good as the day I bought them. Their flexible chopping mats are brilliant too, I've chucked my big heavy wooden board.

UrsulaPandress · 06/10/2017 07:35

The nearest I've come to a nervous breakdown was in Ikea.

But I do love their ginger thins.

ontherightpath · 06/10/2017 07:37

This www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-organisers-shelves/variera-plastic-bag-dispenser-white-art-80010222/

also wooden hangers, batteries and light bulbs.

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2017 07:37

DS1 wanted to go for stuff for Uni but I couldn't face the drive up the motorway M5/M6 roadworks to get essentially what we managed to get from Dunelm in the end.

He still wants to go though. Grin

LiveLifeWithPassion · 06/10/2017 07:38

Their art stuff is brilliant. Paint palette tubs, tubes of paints, coloured paper and huge rolls of paper.

cochineal7 · 06/10/2017 07:39

Not just regular tealights. The new(ish) LED tealights. They have candles too.

Caenea · 06/10/2017 07:39

And milo, I dry my socks like a caveman - on the washing line.

However, I might have to ask for an octopus for Christmas because that, frankly, is genius.

Coffeeisnecessary · 06/10/2017 07:43

They do online shopping- we got our sofa and table delivered and the every people were great! Probably don't deliver candles and sandwich bags though...

mizu · 06/10/2017 07:43

Has no one mentioned the chocolate!!!!? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2017 07:44

Looks like you can get the octopus on Amazon but assume it's way more expensive.

AssumethePerpendicular · 06/10/2017 07:50

I live so close to one we went there just for lunch last week Blush
Meatballs, chips and jam
Candles
Cheese grater tub
Baby hooded towel
Picture frames
Organiser boxes and baskets

Enjoy! We had to go to Leeds or Ilkeston when I lived in Sheffield
