She's been on a day trip with school to Amsterdam - up at 2 am this morning. Flight just landed, probably 2 hours until she gets home. She can stay home tomorrow can't she?

Eh yes you wouldn't be expected to work after all those hours.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 04/10/2017 22:30

How old is she?

geekone · 04/10/2017 22:30

You will have to write a sick letter though but I think exhaustion would cover it. Maybe if she is up for it she could go in after lunch

Yarboosucks · 04/10/2017 22:31

Yes, if she is too tired when she wakes up tomorrow, but you will not know the answer to that until then. How old is she?

Generally at our school people are in school the next day but we are mindful thry may be a bit tired.

auntieobem · 04/10/2017 22:32

Will see how she is in morning. I could possibly come home at lunchtime to take her to school - too far to walk.

today parents look for any reason to keep their child off school. That you have come on here suggests you know she should go to school

SparklyUnicornPoo · 04/10/2017 22:33

I'm surprised they aren't either giving them the day off or a half day so they can go in after lunch. See how she feels in the morning but I'd let her take the day off.

auntieobem · 04/10/2017 22:34

No actually I think I should keep her off. She'll have been up for over 22 hours, and will only have about 6 hours sleep.

OP posts:
lougle · 04/10/2017 22:34

No, she'll have at least 7 hours sleep. She can go to school.

Welshmaenad · 04/10/2017 22:36

I'd keep her off. She will be exhausted.

auntieobem · 04/10/2017 22:37

She'll be home around 12.45 up again at 7.

turnaroundbrighteyes · 04/10/2017 22:40

I'd wait and see how she is when the alarm goes off. She might have slept during both journeys and be keen to go to school and relive the adventure or so knackered she sleeps through the alarm. You won't know until the morning.

sinceyouask · 04/10/2017 22:41

I'd see how she is. But if she's really tired, a day off seems reasonable.

Migraleve · 04/10/2017 22:41

Oh wow, so for one night she has less sleep and for one day she is a bit tired?

Yes of course she should go to school.

NotEnoughCushions · 04/10/2017 22:41

I'm surprised the school haven't given any guidance, ours would normally say that pupils are not expected in until after break/lunch.

In the absence of any guidance from school I would try to wake her up and get her to school. Yes, she'll be tired but she won't be the only one. She can have a couple of early nights and catch up. And many of her friends will be discussing the trip etc.

SillyMoomin · 04/10/2017 22:42

Hmm 6/7 hours - and it’ll be good sleepbecayse she’ll be tired- send her to school

For heavens sakes

AnnieAnoniMouse · 04/10/2017 22:45

You're being ridiculous. She's 14, she'll have had 6 hours sleep.

travailtotravel · 04/10/2017 22:46

To the poster who said you wouldn't be expected to go to work on those hours, I finished work at 2am on Monday and was in again by 9 the following day. It's quite normal for lots of people. Not ideal but normal.

ManchesterGin · 04/10/2017 22:47

Would you expect the staff who went on the trip to be in work tomorrow?

newmumwithquestions · 04/10/2017 22:47

Eh yes you wouldn't be expected to work after all those hours.

Bahahaha. If you have a travelling job yes you are. Shouldn't be expected to work maybe. But absolutely are.

deepestdarkestperu · 04/10/2017 22:48

Of course she should go to school!
Midnight isn’t that late for a 14yo. She can just go to bed early tomorrow if she’s that tired.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/10/2017 22:48

Keep her off. Definately

You never sleep as well away from your own bed it's not just one night of less sleep it's days of probably not sleeping properly in a strange place.

Keep her off.
