To let dd take day off school tomorrow?

She's been on a day trip with school to Amsterdam - up at 2 am this morning. Flight just landed, probably 2 hours until she gets home. She can stay home tomorrow can't she?

Won't it be a tad embarrassing when all her friends are in school, then she and tells them she didn't come in because she was sleepy?

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/10/2017 22:49

My bad it was just a day trip.

Still say keep her off.

AmysTiara · 04/10/2017 22:52

I'd send my 14 year old in and just let them have an early night tomorrow.

GabsAlot · 04/10/2017 22:53

if theyre expected in she should at least try-

i used to stay up all hours they hav loads of energy at that age

Scoobydoobydont · 04/10/2017 22:55

Just me imagining all the kids years ago taking a day off work because they had “only” had six hours sleep?

Imaging the 15 and 16 year olds in the trenches.

Imagining the millions of people in the UK tomorrow turning up for work or school with less than six hours sleep?

Bloody hell! Get a grip and send her to school. Nothing wrong with learning what it’s like to have to get up and crack on with a day when you are a bit tired! Will
Equip her well for when she hits the real world.

lborgia · 04/10/2017 22:56

depends on her.
depends on the school.
depends on you.

If she comes home, and literally teeth and bed, then she can manage a school day (so, 9-3?). Just make her go to bed early tomorrow night.

The adrenalin should see her through at the very least.

If she wakes up..I don't know, tearful and looking like a ghost, maybe not?

Don't think we can have an MN gavel on this.

Yarboosucks · 04/10/2017 22:57

Has she asked to stay off or is this just your idea? Seems ridiculous to me who quickly people are leaping to advise taking the day off!

I assume the school know the itinerary, did they suggest taking the next day off?

Yvetteballs · 04/10/2017 22:57

May be take her in an hour late.

dolphinbbq · 04/10/2017 22:57

If I took a day off school at 14 yo because I had a “late night” then I wouldn’t have any sort of education.

Get to school it’s nearly the weekend she can sleep then 😂

dinosaursandtea · 04/10/2017 22:59

Jesus, Scooby! You're actually bringing up the trenches?!

OP, see how she is in the morning but if she's too tired then by all means keep her off! Exhaustion is a real physical condition.

HillaryWinshaw · 04/10/2017 22:59

I think you’re being ridiculous to be honest. “My 14-year-old isn’t in school because she’s a bit tired.” Confused

HillaryWinshaw · 04/10/2017 23:00

100% agree with ScoobyDoobyDont

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 04/10/2017 23:05

I don't why schools don't just say to pupils come in at 11 tomorrow in these situations. My DD's school did this and they all turned up. I'd feel more sorry for the staff!

MumsOnCrack · 04/10/2017 23:05

See how she is when she wakes up.

HoneyBoo269 · 04/10/2017 23:06

When I was 14 I could have had a limb hanging off & my mum would have still ordered me to go in Grin

Although it probably wasn't the best planning from the school to have such a late returning day trip mid-week

RaininSummer · 04/10/2017 23:10

I am slightly astonished about a day trip to Amsterdam. Is this quite normal nowadays?

GreenTulips · 04/10/2017 23:11

We landed an early flight from USA and the kids went to school! Yes they were tired, but made it through.

Get her in

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 04/10/2017 23:13

Of course she should go to school.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/10/2017 23:14

Eh yes you wouldn't be expected to work after all those hours.

Yes you would!

auntieobem · 04/10/2017 23:15

Are folk missing the bit where she was up at 2 am this morning to set off?

OP posts:
SleightOfMind · 04/10/2017 23:15

As long as she's otherwise healthy, school then early night. Quite surprised you'd consider anything else tbh.
It's only two days till the weekend.

CoffeeBreakIn5 · 04/10/2017 23:16

Unless they've said otherwise then school wont authorise an absence for that reason

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 04/10/2017 23:16

YABU. I think she should go to school. It won’t be that late by the time she’s in bed. As a one off, it’s fine to have limited sleep. It was only a day trip, not like she’s been away for a while and sleep deprived.

auntieobem · 04/10/2017 23:17

She'll have gone from 2 am to at least 12.45- so 22 hour day and then just 6 hours sleep???

OP posts:
SillyMoomin · 04/10/2017 23:19

No, we got the 2am bit op

By the way- name change fail?!

But seriously, why start a thread trying to get the answer you clearly want and keep trying to persuade people? Either do or don’t. But clearly most people here think you’re being precious
