Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

I love Hartley and always remember when his country cousin came to town for a visit. He wore a straw hat, a smock and hat a wheat stalk in his mouth and was sat on a bus looking at the sights :D

When I see people with triangle hair I always think of crystal tips, I remember feeling so sorry for Mary mungo and midge as they lived in a flat and didn't have a garden! Larry the lamb sock puppet, ludvig! Black beauty on a Sunday afternoon, I had an lp of the black beauty stories started with that amazing theme tune and the reader was the girl from the series. Crown Court was when my mum would lay on the sofa and try to make me napSmile I'm nearly 47!

Google says it was called Five O'Clock Club, I would never have remembered that.

Me neither. I can't remember anything about it either, I just knew about Aunty Mu and Ollie. Funny the things you recall isn't it?

I wasn’t born until 1996 but I have a fascination with old programmes, I love how much innuendo was in Pipkins! Grin

Sorry if it's been asked - but who else remembers Lizzy Dripping and that witch? I was quite young when i watched it and it scared the b'jeezus out of me!

Oh so many happy memories reading this thread. I used to love the bit in the banana splits when it was time for Arabian Nights. I also loved it when I was poorly and allowed to watch to during the day. I loved The cedar tree, Sullivans and crown court.
At some point in my childhood I think the tv people bought a lot of Australian shows, so I watched a lot of skippy & another programme about children being schooled at home as they lived in the outback & in each episode there was an adventure, maybe involving planes & doctors, but I could be muddling shows up.
At school I can remember the big old to being wheeled out for the class to watch a show about a girl during war time. There was a really sad episode where her cat (I think) was killed in a bomb raid & I was the only child in the class crying.

Fekko · 04/10/2017 18:45

Nah, that would be Skippy! (We had and odd sense of humour in our house).

Laiste · 04/10/2017 18:46

Are you thinking of 'The flying doctors'? Loved that was both madly in love with 'Geof' and frustrated by his pussyfooting around when he was obviously in love with 'Kate' 😀😀

Willow2017 · 04/10/2017 18:50

Feko yes I know but it reminded me of the proper tune for Flipper😀

DaisyDrip · 04/10/2017 18:51

Lizzy Dripping, Lizzy Dripping, don't look now your fibs are slipping Grin Yes, I remeber, I loved it.

Fekko · 04/10/2017 18:52

EmilyAlice · 04/10/2017 18:52

Picture Book on Monday, Andy Pandy Tuesday, Bill and Ben (and the Little Weed) Wednesday, Rag, Tag and Bobtail Thursday, The Woodentops Friday. I am 67 and we had television before I was born.
Do I win?

AsColdAsIce · 04/10/2017 18:54

What about Romper Room? I used to pray she would say she could see me in the mirror!
Later on, there was Time Slip.
Oh, and LambChop Smile

IAmBreakmasterCylinder · 04/10/2017 18:54

Has anyone else noticed the frequent use of the flute in music on children's TV shows from the 70s?!

PolkaDottyRose · 04/10/2017 18:56

I loved Pipkins! (and Hartley too). And Basil Brush. I don't care if I am old or of dubious taste. They were ace!
