Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

It wasn't called The herb garden, it was the herbs, . Can anyone else understand Bill and Ben?

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2017 20:21

No. I'm wrong lamb chop. It was lamb chop

bertsdinner · 04/10/2017 20:21

I remember Pipkins, Hartley Hare was a real pain in the neck. There was pig, tortoise and a highly strung ostrich, which may have been called Octavia and had a Russian accent (??).
I remember a programme where every now and then, randomly, a man would open a large chest and loads of streamers would come out, then he would struggle to shut it. May have been Pipkins, I cant remember.

Thanks Ghosty, that nearly made me cry for some reason! Decades melted away!

The Singing Ringing Tree, anyone? Creepiest thing ever!

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2017 20:28

Painting with Nancy, she had black hair piled up on her head and wore a pink artist smock

MarklahMarklah · 04/10/2017 20:28

I used to like Hartley hare. I liked that he was shabby and camp. Explains a lot about my teenage years.

I remember so many of the programmes mentioned here.

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2017 20:29

Remember the huge goldfish in The Singing, Ringing Tree, and the princess with her green face, I loved that.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/10/2017 20:29

simpler times ! Life was so much easier aged 7!

Humphriescushion · 04/10/2017 20:30

There is one programme that I can never find. I used to know the theme tune off by heart but it is gone now. It was an owl I think in a tree and he used to say at the end something like "heads under wings - beaks under blankets" anyone remember?

KettleOn919 · 04/10/2017 20:31

What about Little Blue the cartoon elephant? He was, inexplicably, the only elephant pupil in a class full of human kids.

Little Blue, LIttle Blue,
Why do they call you LIttle Blue?
Playing in the bath as some of us do
He took his mummy's fountain pen and broke it in two,
The ink it squirted in the water... wow!
His mummy's got a blue boy now!
They scrubbed and rubbed, he cried and kicked up a din
The more they washed it out the more it washed in
He cried "Oh mummy, mummy, what shall I do?
I'll have to stay a LIttle Blue!

Don't know why I can remember every word of that theme tune...

Willow2017 · 04/10/2017 20:32

Barbapapa of course now you describe it Piff I remember it
I knew the name just couldn't place it.

What about 'Lost in Space' and ' Land of the Giants'?
Saw Lotg on tv when we were in Florida last year it took me back😀

Belle & Sebastian I soooooo wanted a dog like that.

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2017 20:33

Time4chocolate and hamptonwick I loved The Sullivans with an early Mrs Mangle. Luckily (for my tv viewing) I was a poorly child!

NearLifeExperience · 04/10/2017 20:34

Yes, and don't forget the evil dwarf, the very hairy man (or was he a bear?) or the horse with antlers, CoolCarrie!

Maudlinmaud · 04/10/2017 20:35

Any Irish mumsnetters remember this little guy/girl

Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?
KettleOn919 · 04/10/2017 20:37

Does anyone remember the Upside Down, In and Out, Round About Man? There was a row of doors and he used to go in an out into different worlds and have a mini-adventure in each. It was mid 70s, I think.

Nanny0gg · 04/10/2017 20:38

If you didn't watch Bill & Ben, The Woodentops, Andy Pandy and Rag, Tag and Bobtail in black and white on 12" screen, you are all infants.

Not to mention Muriel Young, Christopher Trace and Pussycat Willum, Ollie Beak and Fred Barker. (And Wally Whyton and Bert Weedon)

I really am old...

DJBaggySmalls · 04/10/2017 20:40

5 pages and no ones mentioned Captain Pugwash...

Minstrelsareyum · 04/10/2017 20:40

You’re not the oldest Mumsnetter!
Pig used to say in the best Birmingham dialect ever: “MOY name’s Peeg and I’m hungreeee!!”
And yes Hare really was a complete moth eaten, hairy horror!

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2017 20:41

Dare I admit I've got loads of these on DVD. My late dad bought me Bagpuss cuddly toy for Christmas last year.

I think the owl series was called The Fable or The Fables, I think it was dubbed from Holland or somewhere, Humphriescushion

StandardPoodle · 04/10/2017 20:41

Ah, memories!
Andy Pandy, The Woodentops, White Horses, Tarzan, Champion the Wonder Horse, Thunderbirds, Stingray. Oh, and Follyfoot.
Anyone remember Clarence the cross-eyed lion - was that Daktari?

Nanny0gg · 04/10/2017 20:41

5 pages and no ones mentioned Captain Pugwash...
And Ivor the Engine.

Joeymaynardslimegreendress · 04/10/2017 20:41

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2017 20:42
