To be fed up of the s**t sleeves fashion trend

Desperate to find some decent work tops, but the only options seem to be either ballon sleeves, or sleeves with tons of pointless lace and frills attached. I'm the sort of person who dresses more for comfort and likes to sling a cardi over the top if it get cold, which doesn't lend itself to bell sleeves particularly well. Plus who comes up with the patterns? All nauseating florals that subtlety forgot. I'm also quite short with short arms, so I look bloody ridiculous. Some people seem to carry this look off, I am definitely not one of them.

Am I the only person who wants this trend to eff off ASAP?

Are there any shops that have ignored this trend completely. I have been in the usual high street shops and can't find anything.

OP posts:

I'm with you OP. Anything with a fancy sleeve stays right on the hanger as far as I'm concerned, no matter how nice it might be otherwise. Likewise anything that's ruffled, or comes down over the shoulders so that you can't wear a bra (I think they call it a bardot top). Really am not interested in anything like that.
Cold shoulder tops are ok for the summer if you have a nice tan but definitely not for the winter.
I really thought these trends would be over by now. You hardly ever see anyone wearing them. I would guess only hardcore followers of fashion would buy them. More casual buyers such as myself are more likely to just make do with what we 've already got.

I feel your pain, what are you supposed to do when you have 6 miles of sleeve to tuck into your coat or cardigan??

A friend introduced me to this brand though who are good, and haven't seemed to bother with the bell sleeve trend, which is good:

I started a thread about the same thing about a month ago and got no replies. Am with you 100%. Trying to think who wouldn't be hampered by idiotic wide sleeves but am struggling. Even mega rich pampered folk have to wipe their buns and wash their hands I imagine.

Thisismadness · 03/10/2017 18:52

Agree, don’t want ruffles or frills or holes, just normal sleeves. They’ll look dated very quickly as well.

Teutonic · 03/10/2017 18:53

I read SaucyJacks comment and started laughing, then I read MrsGoToBeds comment and tears accompanied the laughter, then the thought of Mollie85 phnarring her tea finished me off.
😂😂😂😂

That is the ONLY good thing about this terrible chopped up, chopped off, flouncy frilled so called fashion.

SilverySurfer · 03/10/2017 18:54

I LOATHE the sleeves where they stick a gathered bit on the end and eg M&S are guilty of making perfectly ok looking tops really fugly.

reallynearlythere · 03/10/2017 18:56

Can I add a serious lack of v neck jumpers/tops for well endowed ladies? All the shops appear to be clones of one another, with few actually selling the things we need.

Kidsarekarma · 03/10/2017 18:56

I am with you too OP.
And 'normal' sleeves are so long! I know I have short arms but I tried on two lovely tops in m&s which had sleeves so long I had to push them up several times. They were wrinkled all the way to my armpits and looked ridiculous.

TheFirstMrsDV · 03/10/2017 18:57

Froof everywhere.
Its doing my head in.

NeverTwerkNaked · 03/10/2017 18:57

Ahhhh I’ve found my people!!! The one positive of this “fashion” is that I have spent almost zero on clothes for some time now, haven’t been tempted by a single impulse buy for a long time

Katescurios · 03/10/2017 18:58

Do you think I could pick the ruffles off of the shoulders on this www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/dresses-5699972/womens-dresses-5686813/burgundy-ruffle-shoulder-knitted-dress-7010602?bi=80&ps=20 I could just about cope with the slight flare at the wrist

Linnet · 03/10/2017 18:58

I don't like tops that come right up to your neck. If you are a woman with a small chest this looks nice, if you don't have a small chest it is most definitely not a good look!

Lweji · 03/10/2017 18:59

Shot?
Shat?
Snot?
Spot?
Spit?
Slut?
Slit?

The mind boggles.

* are shit. Just use letters.

BossyBitch · 03/10/2017 19:01

Might work, Kate. If you look closely at the picture, they don't seem to be set into the shoulder seam but attached, and they appear to have a base consisting of some kind of a (maybe stiffened) ribbon.

Biggest risk would arguably be that threads may get pulled from the base in the process producing a somewhat unclean result.

NoParticularPattern · 03/10/2017 19:02

Oh god I feel your pain. I need some maternity tops as my normal ones are all now too short, and every single one is bloody cold shoulder or has some sort of weird puffy/flutter thing going on. And don’t even get me started on off the shoulder styles for pregnancy. Who the chuff thought it would be a good idea to put a woman whose norks are the size of Mars in a top that requires a strapless bra?! For fucks sake I’m struggling enough to find bras that don’t make me look like Nora Batty’s poor relation, never mind bloody strapless ones!!

NancyDonahue · 03/10/2017 19:03

I'm with you all. Can I add tops with elaticated hems?

With regards to holes, I saw this lovely jumper in asda.. well, I thought it was lovely until I noticed the ripped off neck Confused

Undercoverbanana · 03/10/2017 19:05

It's all about the long line, long sleeved stretchy tops in Primark for me. £3.50, wash like a dream and go with everything. Not a ruffle, frill or dick-brain sleeve in sight.

thegoodnameshadgone · 03/10/2017 19:07

I buy primark loose t shirts. £6 each. They are the cotton type that doesn’t stretch. They go with work trousers or skirts and are ideal to throw a cardi over.

Really versatile. I dress em down with jeans aswell.

Katescurios · 03/10/2017 19:08

Nancy that jumper is stupid, but have you seen this asda monstrosity direct.asda.com/george/womens/dresses/pussybow-dress/SET2525,default,pd.html

marmiteloversunite · 03/10/2017 19:09

How exactly are you meant to fit those sleeves into a jacket or coat? Fold, pleat or ruffle the extra material as you pull on the coat?? It's bloody ridiculous for Winter.

ForalltheSaints · 03/10/2017 19:11

I'm with the OP on this one. As with a lot of so-called fashion, as we are the second most unstylish nation on earth after the US.

BossyBitch · 03/10/2017 19:11

Marmite, please don't ask that question. I'm really scared you may have caused a mutton-sleeve coat trend now!

WineAndTiramisu · 03/10/2017 19:12

NancyDonahue why have they cut a hole in the neck? What possible purpose could that have?!

Arrowfanatic · 03/10/2017 19:13

I'm with you there. Wanted a new top for a meal out, I'm not the frill kind of girl. I live in jeans and plain Primark tops mainly, but wanted something a bit more fancy. Needless to say I haven't found anything, fashion looks like it's gone backwards 50 years!

BewareOfDragons · 03/10/2017 19:16

Totally with you: ruffles, huge sleeves, cut outs, yuck! Which is why I went and bought some lightweight normal sweaters in the men's department 2 weeks ago. They look great with my leggings. :)
