That is all!
Opinions please.

I'd be pleased they were taking an interest in politics but would advise further study on the assumption that they hadn't really thought about it very well and maybe had missed a few of the Tory core values.

They stand for everything I've raised my children to not become, imo.

I wouldn't hate them if it turned out they had thought it through fully but I would wonder where I'd gone wrong that my own child decided to make an educated decision to support and promote a party that would happily throw them under a bus to save a quid.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 15:48

I’d assume that his brain hadn’t matured enough yet, and wait for the parts that dealt with empathy etc to catch up.
Otherwise, I’d worry that he’d turn into William Hague.

takesnoprisoners · 03/10/2017 15:48

They are kids at 16. Too early to form any sort of solid political affiliations. Maybe he will stay a Tory supporter, maybe he will become a Green party supporter. Who knows. We can only pray that he will never become a Labour puppet.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 15:50

Who knows. We can only pray that he will never become a Labour puppet.

Not quite sure what one of those is.
Is it like Sooty?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 03/10/2017 15:50

Again some Tory voters are nice enough people just naive, deceived by propaganda etc.

In your opinion.

I could easily say the same about many Corbynistas I have met.

I am no longer a LP member because of JC and the rise of anti semitism in the party. I don't however tarnish everyone with the same brush.

To stand up as a young conservative and say yes I am with you, that takes a certain mindset that my dc would never possess.

You can't see into the future. You have no idea as to what 'mindset they will have in the future.

I never thought I would ever leave the L.P. but I have as have many others.

GreatFuckability · 03/10/2017 15:52

I would be pleased they were taking an interest in our country. I'd then have to spend some serious time in political conversation with them to figure out what about the tory party they thought was good.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 15:52

Like Ché Sweep?

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2017 15:58

"Yes, some of the views expressed about "Corbynistas" and the Labour Party have been pretty unpleasant, I agree.

Maybe. I do notice, however that you can't bring yourself to say that about some of the things said about another parties members or voters is wrong, just because you don't agree with their politics."

I would be happy to. Later on, I'll read the thread properly , and see if there is anything gratuitously and inaccurately unpleasant that compares " bigotted wank" and comments about gulags and brainwashing. If so, I!ll be happy to condemn.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 16:04

The Young Conservatives held some strange views on Apartheid didn't they?

The Federation of Conservative Students were crackers; they were the ones with the ‘Hang Nelson Mandela’ badges IIRC. They were shut down by the party leadership.

TheNaze73 · 03/10/2017 16:06

I'd think fair play. Someone with their own ideas, not a sheep & a realist. Lots of people until, they start having to pay tax are drawn to the unicorn wankfest offered by the so called opposition

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/10/2017 16:07

Piglet well my already adult dc is a Labour Party member. I can't see into the future but I am hundred percent confident in the character of my younger dc.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2017 16:10

"the unicorn wankfest offered by the so called opposition"

God, these left wingers are rude!

Lalalandfill · 03/10/2017 16:11

This sums it all up. Huge irony in generalisations about Tories lacking empathy that prove the poster has no empathy for anyone who votes differently to them

EdithSwanNeck · 03/10/2017 16:14

'I'd have to re educate him'...
Hmm...anyone heard of a writer called Orwell?

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 16:14

Such command of logic! I am in awe.

Dapplegrey2 · 03/10/2017 16:14

Gillybeanz if one of your dc had a friend who supported Conservatives would you allow your dc to have him/her over?

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 16:16

Anyone that uses the word ‘sheep’ in a perjorative way can be pretty safely ignored.

topicOfTheDay · 03/10/2017 16:20

@SusanTheGentle

"I'm engaging in a nuanced debate and trying to do so in good faith."

Seems at odds with

"Your reading comprehension skills are very poor"

Do you think you stepped foot on the slippery slide of personal insults?

@Bertrand

I'm getting better and better at ignoring you but really need to point out that "bigotted [sic] wank" was never used by me (or any other) and if it had been, I would have spelt it correctly.

If you'd ever like help with correct usage of commas I'd be happy to help. I think a few minutes on syntax would help you too. Nothing undermines a post with a few uncomfortable polysyllabic adjectives like incomprehensible nonsense either side.

From the bottom of my aortic pump!

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 03/10/2017 16:21

Goady OP resulting in predictable OTT responses which then results in a predictable OTT backlash against said responses.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 03/10/2017 16:21

'Bigotted [sic] wank' was definitely used.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 16:23

Personally, I’d say that ‘nothing undermines a post’ quite like having to resort to the grammar police routine.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/10/2017 16:23

Good, this is a democracy. He is entitled to his views. I would be glad he's showing interest in politics. He may change his mind later once he discovers more about the conservative party. Mabey he can make it a better party. It needs young people to change politics.

Blossomdeary · 03/10/2017 16:24

It's just a phase! He will see sense when he grows up - and more quickly the less you say about it.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2017 16:27

Ironically, I think you need to put a couple of commas in there.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 03/10/2017 16:28

I'd blame my dad. Smile
