Crushed velvet sofas/beds/curtains.

Also wooden letters in the kitchen/bathroom that's say 'Cook'/'Bath' etc telling you what each room is for.

While I'm at it- wall 'art' (stickers) with cheesy phrases.

Couldn’t agree more with the comments on here. I despise the letters and even worse is these lightboxes.

Everyone’s house seems to be full of white, grey and neutrals, covered in mirrored furniture. IMO it just shows a lack of confidence in interiors as people are afraid to experiment with interiors so they go with a safe bet!!!

winterwinter · 02/10/2017 21:37

Sorry meant to say *afraid to experiment with colours

AccrualIntentions · 02/10/2017 21:37

My house is filled with bookshelves. Not displayed, just put. Where the hell else are we supposed to put our books? Hmm

I also massively dislike the "quirky" signs - live laugh love etc but unfortunately my mother in law is a big fan...Confused

echt · 02/10/2017 21:42

I've had to look up light boxes. I thought they were far SAD and couldn't see why so many were sneering. I see. I've only seen one in Australia and it was done at least four years ago, but the owners are designers, so...

Hang on, they're the ones with the big book-covered big coffee table.

Arseface · 02/10/2017 21:44

Bifolding doors - lovely in a climate where 'bringing the outdoors in' is actually possible for more than 3 months of the year.

Stuck on the back of a 3-bed semi in Surrey? No thanks.

echt · 02/10/2017 21:48

I've always wondered about bi-folding doors. Don't they they take up a ton of space where they fold back? What about the flies and mozzies? They had them in abundance where I lived in the UK.

I now live where you can bring the outdoors in for a good deal of the year, and the idea of filling the house with insects... Bleurgghh.

thiskittenbarks · 02/10/2017 21:53

I like bifold doors.
I agree each to their own and I don't care what anyone else has in their house - but we are looking to buy at the moment and it makes me sad when someone had gutted a beautiful Victorian terrace and taken out original fireplaces and replaced them with stainless steel "funky" argos fireplaces. Or when what was probably once a lovely garden has been concreted over an covered with fake grass.
We had laminate in the kitchen in our first flat and I wanted to put tiles in. In current house we have fancy ceramic tiles and I HATE THEM. Anything I drop smashes into a million pieces. On laminate stuff would just sort of bounce. I understand why people dislike it, but yesterday I knocked a full bottle of olive oil onto the floor and the mess was unbearable. Give me laminate any day.

UnicornTears · 02/10/2017 21:57

FUCK off who cares what you like people decorate their houses with what they like.

Judgemental ppl are so annoying. I bet people dont like how you have decorated your house but are just polite. Unlike you.

woodhill · 02/10/2017 22:00

I'm like that too Working as are my parents. I have some of their stuff in my house.

TheFirstMrsDV · 02/10/2017 22:12

OMG refuse am properly LOLling at your watless builder putting metro tiles up the wrong way Grin

Please let us see a photo. Pleaaaaase.

thiskittenbarks · 02/10/2017 22:17

When we viewed our first place over half of it was painted black, there was a huge cityscape silhouette sticker covering an entire wall complete with stuck on diamontees. The bathrooms were black and red with wall to wall mirrors so you had to see yourself on the loo / in the shower etc. Oh and we discovered there was a window they decided they no longer wanted so they had got a big sheet of mdf and stuck it to the window with No More Nails.
It was fantastic (to us) in the end, but it took ages to undo all their weird decor and awful DIY. It's none of my business what people have in their house but I urge everyone out there to not glue a sheet of mdf to an unwanted window!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/10/2017 22:21

Unicorn, put down the pebbles and twigs, there's no need to get physical!

Remember, "live, love, laugh" Grin

PickAChew · 02/10/2017 22:22

At least the vertical metro tiles isn't as disastrous as whatever muppet put flat roof tiles on a house near us without doing the staggered overlap thing - so like roman or ridged tiles rather than old fashioned slate or shingle tiles. Give that a year or two and it will be one leaky roof.

Mumof41987 · 02/10/2017 22:28

I love crushed velvet sofas and think they look very clean and elegant . Same with the beds . ID love all those things . It would be boring If all liked the same things but I find your post very rude and judgemental . I DONt care what furniture you have , so don't judge others personal Tastes

IDismyname · 02/10/2017 22:32

Well I have good news for all you grey-haters out there. I'm studying trend forecasts for interior colours, and the future looks much brighter!

Greige will go the same way as magnolia did in the 80s and 90s. It's bland and inoffensive, and will provide a blank canvas to sell a house or allow you to add your own taste to it.

echt · 02/10/2017 22:41

I think poster who froth about judging others are missing the point. I can't imagine for one minute that they go round to actual people's homes and sneer in their faces at their doubtful taste.

StillIInDenial · 02/10/2017 22:51

I totally love these colours

Trying to persuade DH that magnolia is not the way forwards

Stars2theside · 02/10/2017 22:58

Omg OP - are you me?! As soon as I clicked the title I instantly thought of ALL these "trends" which I also despise!!

DappledThings · 02/10/2017 23:03

Can't believe I got through 22 pages and nobody's mentioned beige bathrooms. Is it only me who hates them? Floor to ceiling giant beige tiles. Just hideous and they're bloody everywhere. House hunting now and saw a great property newly renovated. Ruined by those horrible tiles!

Srush86 · 02/10/2017 23:04

I think the reason why magnolia and grey ( not dark grey) has been used a lot is that we all don’t live in massive houses and they make smaller dark rooms look lighter.

Wormysquirmy · 02/10/2017 23:05

Thank you OP!

I hate those signs. So naff. And the grey walls. So dull.

greentea4me · 02/10/2017 23:58

DappledThings travertine tiles? They're not a current home trend though, very 90's but people still have them.

JemimaLovesHamble · 03/10/2017 00:17

I bet you all the folk who have Tolstoy on display in their bookcases have the whole of 50 shades/Mills & Boon on their kindle!!

50 Shades, never!

But my Jilly Coopers are displayed proudly next to the Dostoevsky Grin It's my house, I'll have things how I want to have them!

I'm moving soon actually, into a very grey house. I hope I like it. Presumably magnolia is still out, and I don't like stark white because of the little grubby fingers - what is the "chic" option now if grey is out?

JemimaLovesHamble · 03/10/2017 00:19

I'm studying trend forecasts for interior colours, and the future looks much brighter!

Actual colour? I'm fond of bottle green...
