Crushed velvet sofas/beds/curtains.

Also wooden letters in the kitchen/bathroom that's say 'Cook'/'Bath' etc telling you what each room is for.

While I'm at it- wall 'art' (stickers) with cheesy phrases.

grey carpet screams done up for rental

Some grey carpets do. The polyester, shiny ones. Just like certain beige/cream carpets 'scream' developer.

Spudlet · 01/10/2017 12:15

Any home decor trends that can be easily covered over when they go to of fashion again are a ok with me. However, anything more permanent is the work of the devil. [Casts a dark eye at the fucking artex all over the kitchen].

Although it does mean that a cheapskate like me will be able to knock all sorts of money off your house's asking prIce, so maybe I should embrace it...?

I can't believe anyone thinks log burners are naff. Warm feet are never naff, people!

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 01/10/2017 12:16

The carefully curated bohemian 'I don't give a shit' house is just as contrived a 'trend' as the feature wall and pebbly shit.

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/10/2017 12:23

I admire any house that has been decorated with care and love regardless of if its too my taste.
I know that sounds poncy but its true Grin

I don't understand people who change their entire room in one go and exchange sofas, rugs, pictures and ornaments for a new set.
Its like looking at a page out of the Next catalogue .
You are just buying stuff because its from the same range rather than because you love it.

A while ago it was stags everywhere. A room full of stag themed shizzle.
It will all have been swapped for chevrons and grey now.

There was a joke going round here (newly gentrified) that burglers had found a new code for 'we have money, rob us'.
It showed a photo of a grey front door and shuttered windows Grin

That style does look nice but isn't it a bit 'look, we are tasteful and new to the area, please don't confuse us with the plebs and their argos furniture'

wizzywig · 01/10/2017 12:26

Anyone else now getting adverts from made.com and decorating websites at the bottom of their screen?

LovelyPrep · 01/10/2017 12:29

I always imagine you'd just slide off the crushed velvet sofas.

Happydays21 · 01/10/2017 12:30

I like crushed velvet and plain velvet sofas.

Hate wood burners though - think they are naff. Give me a real fire place anyday.

drinkswineoutofamug · 01/10/2017 12:37

Annie had the kitchen years , I just tarted it up with new tiles, door knobs etc and I love it

A pp mentioned kitchen islands. I am not a fan. For me they only work if you've got a massive kitchen, otherwise they just look daft. I have seen so many islands shoehorned into a small kichen, with barely room to get round them or open nearby cupboards. They make a kitchen look smaller too. I am waiting for the return to the good old kitchen table, which both my late mother and I use an an extra workspace if needed, and, you can at least move it out of the way if you want to.

lborgia · 01/10/2017 12:50

Ruby and Zaphod, I only have one friend who actually lives in one of the mansions, and I'm afraid I find it as cold and bare on the inside as the outside. It reminds me of... a Travelodge? In theory, it has everything you need, the beds are super comfy, but it is all just too utilitarian.

Maybe I need to look past the colours/shapes and just get one of these and fill it with the libraries of books and huge old sofas... maybe it could really mess with the mind, and be modern on the outside and completely Downton Library inside!

We haven't decorated anything for about 10 years, so we have worked very hard on our "bohemian don't-give-a-shit" look Grin.

wingerkite · 01/10/2017 12:51

I'm finding the whole "gallery wall" thing quite obnoxious and annoying.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2017 13:00

Grey is dreary

RainbowsAndCrystals · 01/10/2017 13:03

I want a sofa like this one. It's velvet so probably means I'm scum in most of your eyes.

Bornfreebutinbiscuits · 01/10/2017 13:04

I love gallery walls at least it's personal and means something.

MrsPinkCock · 01/10/2017 13:04

I have a black crushed velvet bed Grin

It's beautiful and I vowed never to buy anything crushed velvet as the sofas are seriously vom!!

olliegarchy99 · 01/10/2017 13:08

I hate anything too modern - I used to have pampas grass, dried leaves and macrame hanging baskets with spider plants. Blush
Now I have some velvet (not crushed) and hanging things but it suits the cottage I live in and most of the stuff I have hoarded for years

Wilburissomepig · 01/10/2017 13:25

The thing with grey is that it can look fantastic but when everything is either grey, white or chrome it just looks so cold! My friend has just had her bathroom done up grey but has lime green towels and accessories and it looks lovely.

stopgap · 01/10/2017 13:26

woods beautiful sofa, and much more in line with the decor I enjoy.

sweatylemon · 01/10/2017 13:33

I think big open plan everything has had its’ day.

goldenclaire · 01/10/2017 13:38

I cringe at the wooden letters thing.

Tinycitrus · 01/10/2017 13:42

It's bespoke plywood kitchens here

I saw one sbdcgbight it was right up my street i.e.: cheap.

They cost thousands!!!

So I off to IKEA instead Grin

Tinycitrus · 01/10/2017 13:44

Like this here

3EyedRaven · 01/10/2017 13:53

Only took one page for someone to mention 'common'. Zzzzzzzz
Also, I love a bit of crushed velvet. I loved it on the 90s too.
I'm wearing it today. 💗

ChuffMuffin · 01/10/2017 14:01

I absolutely fucking hate velvet like there is no tomorrow. Just seeing the pictures you guys have posted has made me feel really uncomfortable! I'm going to have to hide this thread Grin.

RoseWhiteTips · 01/10/2017 14:01

I agree about crushed. Elves but real velvet itself is timeless and very beautiful.
