To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?

I need new underwear. I have £130 worth of pants and 2 bras in my shiopping basket. My current underwear is all a bit mingling and stretchy.

ANd then I found the most beautiful perfect thing i have been looking for for ever. Something I really really really want. I dont need it though. It's not practical, it doesn't do anything, but I want it.

So which should I buy?

I don't like the nativity set but I'm not religious.

allegretto · 01/10/2017 14:04

I recently bought part of a nativity set - it's a pizza oven that lights up. Obviously now I've got the essentials sorted I can gradually move on to the rest.

Wow, that Willow Tree set that Isadora linked to is £360 on Amazon! £150 seems pretty reasonable. I'd love a wooden Nativity set too OP. I'm not fussy about underwear, I once had a bra that was £2 from ASDA and it was very comfortable.

BulletFox · 01/10/2017 14:10

That reminds me of Lewis chess pieces

manicinsomniac · 01/10/2017 14:11

Oops, didn't see you'd already bought it when I posted - good choice! It's a lovely one - very classy and will last. I'm still using my grandma's one from the 1950s.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/10/2017 14:28

apple

I think you used to be able to buy it in bits

I may have made that up

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/10/2017 14:46

I wondered if anyone would link the Willow Tree one, Isadora ... I absolute love them, but my goodness the prices!!!

It worries me a bit that they're not made from wood either, but are cast resin models produced in China

BikeRunSki · 01/10/2017 14:52

Buy the nativity set, you'll think about it forever if you don't. Make do with skanky underwear for a while and save up for Sloggis again, An alternative nativity set or make-do Tesco pants are both false economies.

NotAPuffin · 01/10/2017 15:10

I got a nice set of nativity russian dolls from John Lewis last year. We're atheists but they're really nice. I'm sad now though that it doesn't include a pizza oven.

Aeroflotgirl · 01/10/2017 15:15

Blimey they are only Sloggies; not Agent Provocateur or Victoria Secret. Can you get them cheaper from Amazon or E bay? I thought you were going to say a nice designer dress or handbag, but Sloggies😮

IncyWincyGrownUp · 01/10/2017 15:18

We have this nativitynset, it was a Tesco bargain years ago. We're atheists, but we loved the cheese factor. Over the years the stable has had many visitors. The year the daleks and River Song had a face-off with the Magi in the way was a little tense.

That's not our set, ours is in the bucket of doom upstairs. Google for the win.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 01/10/2017 15:49

Floralnomad, sadly it was listed on eBay last Christmas and I missed out. Gave up around the fifty quid mark and it finally went for around £200, iirc. Never been able to find one since.

tippz · 01/10/2017 16:13

Is that the real set @MOIST?

Or are you making it up?

Where did you buy it?

It's at times like these I know I have to come off mumsnet.com

I now desperately need a nativity set. This website costs me a fortune.

JaniceBattersby · 01/10/2017 16:23

It's what Jesus would have wanted, £150 nativity sets.

AlternativeTentacle my thoughts exactly.

tippz · 01/10/2017 16:25

If that IS the genuine set the OP posted (and not a random pic off google like I suspect,) the set is fugly as sin anyway.

I wouldn't give someone 150 pence for it, let alone 150 quid!

MrsFezziwig · 01/10/2017 16:30

I would have the Nativity set, on the grounds that more people will see my Nativity set than my pants Grin

LisaSimpsonsbff · 01/10/2017 16:32

incywincy I have that set too! I bought it reduced in January so I think it cost me something like £2... I have so much affection for it and particularly for what we know as 'egg jesus'

Sallystyle · 01/10/2017 16:33

Greyhound Please link to that nativity set.

I need a nativity set now too. OP, yours is lacking in colour, character and animals, but I'm glad you love it.

So the op is making it up?

Aridane · 01/10/2017 16:47

Shame on you, lady

Shakey15000 · 01/10/2017 16:50

Hang on. £150 on a nativity set???? Bonkers Grin

It's not even useful in a way that underwear is.

I jest, I mean spend money on whatever floats your ark.

HolyShmoly · 01/10/2017 16:52

Go for it.
Also, please post the link to the perfect nativity. I've decided I can buy one expensive Christmas thing that will last for years so I can turn into one of those people who have legendary decorations.
I buy M&S knicks, if it makes a difference.
