To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?

I need new underwear. I have £130 worth of pants and 2 bras in my shiopping basket. My current underwear is all a bit mingling and stretchy.

ANd then I found the most beautiful perfect thing i have been looking for for ever. Something I really really really want. I dont need it though. It's not practical, it doesn't do anything, but I want it.

So which should I buy?

The nativity set we bought years ago still brings real pleasure each year when we take it out. I don't tend to find fancy pants do quite the same but, hey, that's what being parents of teens do to you. Go nativity and enjoy!

R2G · 02/10/2017 19:17

But the thing you'll enjoy it forever x

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/10/2017 19:19

OK, so you have over £100 to spend on something you don't, strictly speaking, need. In that case, it's luxury spending which should be guided by the question: which will bring you most joy?

For me, it would be the nativity set every time. I'm with the pp who've said get a cheap multi-pack of pants. But if wearing luxurious pants next to your skin would make you more joyful than the sight of your nativity every year, then that's the way to go.

coulditbeforever · 02/10/2017 19:20

Yep go for it

TealStar · 02/10/2017 19:23

There is nothing like splashing out on something that will give you shudders of ecstasy every time you look at it! And if a nativity set makes you feel slightly orgasmic, well I would go for that anytime!

Jux · 02/10/2017 19:29

That set is almost the same as my mother's set (now mine). It's lovely. You should definitely get it. I treasure it, and it will go to dd eventually.

We used to unroll wallpaper and paint the 'wrong' side - all splotchy and careless and excited-child-like, and then mum would get a box and crush the wallpaper so it looked uneven and a bit rocklike, and then we'd arrange the figures (except the baby Jesus who didn't go in until we were back from midnight mass, and the wise men who started on the other side of the room and were gradually moved closer and closer....).

Papafran · 02/10/2017 19:30

I really don't understand how anyone could want to spend that money on a nativity set, but then again, I am not religious.

Sloggi underwear just looks very functional. You can get loads of reduced stuff at TKMaxx so I would do that (or maybe treat myself to something a bit racier than pants down to my knees....). Brastop.com is good for reduced and very nice undies from decent brands.

I'm an atheist too, thankfully not aggressively like Niki but hey hoGrin...but I LOVE a nativity set & my earliest memories of Christmas are of nativity scenes.

But that is besides the point, OP only showed pics of it because people begged her to & then gets slagged off, for her choice of frivolous buy Hmm

Sparklyhousedust · 02/10/2017 19:39

Nice nativity OP. Tesco pants are fine:)

greendale17 · 02/10/2017 19:42

I would buy the nativity set. I found my perfect one 2 years ago and it will last forever

HotelEuphoria · 02/10/2017 19:45

I'd have the nativity too, everyone has some grotty knickers.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2017 19:49

And Jesus looks about 4yrs.

He may well have been lostit - the Kings' journey would have taken over two years.

(BTW - I am not being snarky. I am a practising Christian and a (somewhat chubby) pillar of my church. My faith it important to me, but I can separate the myth from the likely reality. Doesn't make Jesus any less amazing or any less divine. Smile

Also - I love how aggressive the Atheists get, especially as they blame most of the world's horrors on religion . . . Grin

I once lusted after a beautiful thing that I couldn't afford and my boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday. 15 years later and it's still beautiful and it still makes me happy. If you think it'll still make you happy in years to come do it and buy cheap M&S pants.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2017 19:50

That is superb Allegretto

FaveNumberIs2 · 02/10/2017 19:51

If you can afford it, go for it. You have one life ...

Lovingit81 · 02/10/2017 19:51

Buy what makes you happy life is too short Grin enjoy x

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2017 19:52

We have this nativitynset, it was a Tesco bargain years ago. We're atheists, but we loved the cheese factor. Over the years the stable has had many visitors. The year the daleks and River Song had a face-off with the Magi in the way was a little tense.

I couldn't spend that kind of money on a non essential but then you probably have much more money than me OP. Come to think of it I have a house I bought cash, a car I bought cash, and no credit card. Everyone has their own priorities. Enjoy you ornament.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 02/10/2017 19:59

Put it this way - the pants won't last forever, but the nativity set can be passed through generations. So it is actually the more sensible purchase. Enjoy it!

stardust18 · 02/10/2017 19:59

Good for you moist.
I hope it makes you smile every time you look at it. You only live once.
I love mulberry handbags and white company pyjamas.

Lottie5mummy · 02/10/2017 20:00

Nativity set every time. Your knickers will wear out long before the set. M&S have a great undies sale on at the moment 😊😊 win win

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2017 20:04

I was going to knit some...but you know...

I know Annie - couldn't be arsed . . . Grin

whirlyswirly · 02/10/2017 20:10

Like namedy, I don't actually know anyone with a nativity set and I can think of very many things I'd do with £150 before ever purchasing one. I'm feeling a bit left out on this thread.

I have always fancied one of those candle pyramid things though.

LuckLuckLUCK · 02/10/2017 20:10

Esspee Oh god that's the most passive aggressive judgy comment I've read on here for ages!
