Have accidentally clicked on a banner ad and ended up on a site advertising the "Lickle Bubba" pram thing. Now my kids are well past the stroller stage so haven't seen this brand before. Assumed it was a spoof.

Seriously - Lickle Bubba??? I have worked in marketing, I know how many stages you go through to get an ad approved, a product name signed off, all the navel gazing which goes on about branding, product name, product positioning etc and I cannot believe that there wasn't ONE person who questioned the sanity of such a bloody awful product name?

What next - the "Mummy's lil Prinz" range of nappies? Or "Gawjuss Girlie" potties?

ha ha this reminds of those bloody bead toy adverts. Seriously who thought beados was a good name for a product associated with kids?!

PoppyPopcorn · 29/09/2017 11:47

To be fair I doubt kids would make that link.

It's probably genius marketing OP. They know their audience and it will be those people who post "Gawjuss girlies!" on FB etc.

Getout21 · 29/09/2017 11:57

yes but it's the parents who have the cash & i would not purchase beados.

Oh lord, yes, I have only just managed to stop dry-heaving after spotting the add for Ickle Bubba prams this very morn.

Still retch when I see ads for Hot Milk maternity lingerie though.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 29/09/2017 12:00

I totally agree regarding the name.
But.
I have an Ickle Bubba Aurora stroller and I absolutely love it.

Getout21 · 29/09/2017 12:04

Still retch when I see ads for Hot Milk maternity lingerie though. This is a thing! Just googled, why!! 🤢

PoppyPopcorn · 29/09/2017 12:11

But JohnLapsley aren't you mortified when someone says "Ooooh, I like your new pushchair, what is it?" Even worse if it has prominent branding that people are going to notice.

Bananalanacake · 29/09/2017 12:20

Getout, thought you were going to say bunchems, grammatically incorrect so I wouldn't buy them.

EyesAsClearAsCenturies · 29/09/2017 12:21

I agree, OP, though presumably it appeals to the Hunz?

Do you remember when BHS I think were advertising a 'Lolita' bed for girls? Shock

Then when the press phoned their PR department, they didn't seem to know why anything was wrong with it either. How the hell did that get all the way through presumably layers of marketing / design group etc in a company like that?

MerryMarigold · 29/09/2017 12:23

You've made me google it now, and my youngest is 8!!!

I can't believe it either. It's nice branding other than the name.

ScarletBegonia1234 · 29/09/2017 12:26

I hate the name 'hot milk but the nursing bras are AMAZING!

Viviennemary · 29/09/2017 12:27

Sadly there seems to be people around that talk like that or at least they do on these social media sites. And I expect these adverts are aimed at them.

PoppyPopcorn · 29/09/2017 12:27

Part of the trick of marketing though is making your product have as broad an appeal as possible. So you come up with a brand name like "Britax" which has connotations of being British, or "Cossato" which sounds a bit Italian and exotic, or "Bugaboo" to appeal to parents who see themselves as quirky.

This "Lickle Bubba" thing will turn off a huge section of Mums (and Dads) so you're narrowing your market. And yes, Hot Milk is awful too.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 29/09/2017 12:27

Well I’ve just Googled Ickle Bubba, and tbh I was expecting something a little more than that.

Dull as ditchwater.

MerryMarigold · 29/09/2017 12:28

Part of the power of a memorable brand name. You won't decide whether to buy a nursing bra on whether you love/ hate the brand name, but you may choose to buy one based on a name you recognise.

How on earth are the baby mammas meant to take their bubz out, Hun, without an Ickkle Bubba. applies large bow to bald baby

My autocorrect did not like typing that shit!

yodelehoho · 29/09/2017 12:32

I agree it's awful and so embarrassing. There have been threads about this before. I don't think they have a marketing team. Was going to say it was a 16 year fresh out of school however that's not fair on 16 year olds.

scampimom · 29/09/2017 12:39

Escalating this a bit quick, but did you know that Mercedes have a van called the Vito, which is Finnish for 'cunt'. Always amuses me seeing people driving around in them.

OrangeJulius · 29/09/2017 12:42

That's vomit inducing, and I would definitely rule out buying one based on the name alone.

I have the same problem with Yummy Mummy changing bags. Some of them look fairly nice and handy, but I can never buy one...because it says Yummy Mummy on the side!

VickyRsuperstar · 29/09/2017 12:44

I'm not very keen on the "My Babiie" brand either as it's another stupid name. Just looks like someone can't spell or trying to be trendy in the gawjuss camp...and while I'm at it, I hate that spelling of gorgeous so much it's unreal...grinds my gears every time I see it as it's so pointless!

RosyPony · 29/09/2017 12:45

BiL used to have a Vito, that will tickle him!

SasBel · 29/09/2017 12:51

Sounds awful!
The nursing bra sounds bad too.

Derailing a bit, and probably mentioned before, but No va (as in Vauxhall Nova) means 'no go' so does not sell well in Spanish speaking countries.....
