Mine has to be the long loud argument between my neighbours about anal sex. It went on for 15 hours. Such gems as her screaming at him " anyone who wants to fuck a woman up the arse must be a fucking poof anyway". She had her period and wasn't in the mood. All at the top of their voices. For 15 hours. Charming.

I was in a meeting a few weeks ago with a male surgeon who was about to operate on an elderly woman; she was donating the tissue being removed to a clinical trial the surgeon was coordinating. During our meeting, which was about the trial, he referred to the lady donor as 'that beached whale''. Wanker.

KurriKurri · 02/10/2017 17:29

Grass and Whopopped - those are both awful Sad

I remember coming round from an operation for cancer, I must have looked as if I was still unconscious, but I overheard one nurse by my bed say to another 'poor thing, she's been through a terrible time and she's got a lot worse to come' - it was said very sympathetically, but made me feel as if they didn't hold out much hope for me !

holdthewine · 02/10/2017 17:58

Ilikesweetpeas I once overheard (I was in the loo) my late parents in law arguing about my FIL being a bully to me. My MIL asked why he couldn't be nice to me and he replied "I can't stand the girl" 😢

JennyBlueWren · 02/10/2017 19:25

In labour in hospital, had been in for over 24 hours already... Midwife to student: "tell her she's doing really well and baby will be here soon", student does and then returns to midwife who says: "It's going too slowly, I don't think she'll last, we'll have to get the doctor in."

Great to be reassuring but don't let them hear you saying the opposite!

selly24 · 02/10/2017 19:30

That is so bad Disinterested
Actually I think vile charity shop lady was inciting racial hatred and should be reported at least to the charity hq..

londonista · 02/10/2017 19:51

Holdthewine ... that’s awful.

My husbands parents have said stuff about me in front of me, they say it not in english - I know because it’s the only time my husband ever talks their language to them, presumably to tell them to STFU. Normally he would always answer them in English. He never ever tells me what they said. Once my BIL told me they said I was common. Can’t argue with that ... my crime was to put coloured lights on the Xmas tree (instead of white). Common as muck, apparently!

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 02/10/2017 20:06

Overhearing my best friends in high school scheming on how to get my boyfriend to dump me so one of them could have him. I wasn’t good enough for him apparently.
Well, screw them ... by overhearing them I could combat the rumours, cat fishing, and lies they told .., but the bullying scarred.
I moved on from that Boyfriend to another one who the girl in question fancied even more. Mwhahahaha

GabsAlot · 02/10/2017 21:02

thisisgettingridiculous · 02/10/2017 21:25

An older lady in Boots asking a (young) shop assistant if omega three fish oil was good for memory and the shop assistant replying "yeah it is, but you would have had to have started taking it when you were younger, it won't be any use now"

mummmy2017 · 02/10/2017 22:04

Sat in a bar with a girlfriend, and these two guys were talking about these 2 women they fancied and wanted to take out for dinner, each was saying what they liked about the women, and how they hoped they would say yes and go out on the date. This went on for about 5 mins, they then got up got a pint each , turn sat at our table and both said ...Well now you know we really fancy you where do you want to go for this meal....

CakeOffBakeOff · 03/10/2017 16:27

mummmy2017 · 03/10/2017 18:08

We did go out with them, and had a lovely meal, but while I didn't fancy mine, my friend has been Married for 25 years...

FarmerGilesRockfordFiles · 05/10/2017 12:01

The most random thing I've overheard:

Three young women in pub toilets sorting their make-up.

One leaves saying she'll get the drinks in.

One of the ones left in the toilets turns to the other and says "She freaks me out, she looks like a prawn"

The other goes "Uh huh" and just keeps putting on her lippy.

Confused

Shopping in a big department store & overheard a woman on the phone. She had 3 small children with her all under 5, she started screaming & swearing at someone to come meet her right now and buy her some shoes, if not she's sending the kids away to social services! I'm so glad at least 2 of the children were not able to understand her, she was vile.

Chickenagain · 10/10/2017 10:31

Not the worst, but a couple of weeks ago in a seaside town.

Many shoppers going about the pedestrianised high street turned at the sound of raised female voices and were confronted with “Don’t know what you are all looking at, don’t feel sorry for her! I lent her the money for smack and she won’t pay it back”.

We were just Confused and not too sure who was being unreasonable really!

FatBastardHead · 12/10/2017 12:33

"I shagged her husband a couple of years back"
