I've done it.

I've found the gherkin wedding.

Op here you go, forget the classy glass dome in central London, this is the only gherkin wedding you need.

For comparison I had my wedding breakfast at a 5 star hotel in Mayfair and the food was about £80/head for far better food. £135/head is expensive.

CuppaSarah · 27/09/2017 17:58

Nooooo I was beaten to it

Benedikte2 · 27/09/2017 17:58

I couldn't stand the height - even if I didn't go near a window, I'd still get vertigo. Even get that (really physical) feeling when I watch tv programmes involving heights. Gets worse with passing years and this is the experience of affected friends -- wish I knew why as Iit can be a real problem.

I did find this beauty too.

Sunset and the night sky would be gorgeous.

Even if it rains that would be beautiful.

Better that than one of the identikit stately homes people choose, where they act like wearing a pair of DMs with a dress in a historical setting is some kind of Angela Davis level of rebellioN

Could you bring your own caterers in?

rubybleu · 27/09/2017 18:02

Wheresmytaco you can't actually see anything if it rains. It rained at our event and it completely obscures the view. It is beautiful at night though.

HiggeldyPiggeldy · 27/09/2017 18:02

now I want a gherkin and cheese sandwich

Wheresmytaco · 27/09/2017 18:05

I like rain falling on glass 😊 reminds me of home.

The wedding night of a gherkin themed wedding would be interesting.

domesticslattern · 27/09/2017 18:27

Events in the Gherkin are gorgeous at sunset. It feels like being on a spaceship. But the lighting would be dreadful for old rellies, the security is heavy (IIRC I had to bring my passport), it would be a nightmare with kids and not everyone loves lifts and heights. So it depends if all your guests will be comfortable in that environment.
BTW I know this isn't part of your question but am always worried when people say they are going to push the boat out for a wedding day they can't normally afford. Having money to weather the first few years of married life is also a bonus.

AliceFish16 · 27/09/2017 18:28

We went to a wedding here a few years ago and it was fabulous! Food was amazing, views were amazing and was great to go to a wedding that was different to the norm. I'm sure if you had your wedding here you wouldn't be disappointed. However, I know it cost A LOT of money and so I think your £20k would go fairly quickly... Good luck x

thecatfromjapan thank you you sound lovely. Things are finally on the up again for me x

I'm already married but when I win the lottery I'm going to hire it out for a party. I'm in love.

Alternatively, and in case I don't win the lottery, can I come to your wedding please OP?

PumpernickleInaWarehouse · 27/09/2017 18:41

Of course Smile

oh yes slattern is right - airport style security. My full name had to be submitted in advance, presumably to be sure it matched passport. Bag was put through airport scanner. It did seem quick and efficient though they were both big parties, but of course people arrive in dribs and drabs even for a set start time, so to speak.

I was lucky - no rain, plus timings of summer meant I got to see daytime, sunset and night time. I can imagine if it's raining it will get shrouded in mist etc.

glad I'm not the only one who said about lighting. I really wondered how the waiters could see their feet at some points!!

SolidarityGdansk · 27/09/2017 18:50

It's a beautiful venue.

I went to a few corporate events there back when I was working in the city and was invited to such things.

ConciseandNice · 27/09/2017 18:51

I was going to take my hubby to New York to renew our vows at twenty years (he surprised me with a ceremony for our tenth) but now I'm thinking the Gherkin.

Bintang · 27/09/2017 18:58

Well... Gherkin themed wedding would go with pumpernickel name... Grin
Personally, I don't see the point in blowing that much on a party when there are so many other fantastic things to spend it on. Have a party for a quarter of the cost, and spend the rest on art, a holiday, school fees.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/09/2017 19:03

@Gazelda Don't you mean Epicure?

Goingslowlymad1 · 27/09/2017 22:55

I looked at the gherkin for my wedding - I did go with somewhere very close by and almost as lovely for less - pm me if you want details 👌

xqwertyx · 27/09/2017 23:04

Totally not from London....Clicked post expecting photo of 2 pickled vegetables in wedding attire.

twinkledag · 27/09/2017 23:04

I know the architect who designed The Gherkin!

xqwertyx · 27/09/2017 23:04

Agree with previous poster, someone please start a thread about gherkins.
