You also get access to rooms other than the main ones (I guess that's obvious because you're hiring floors), so you can have a little bit of private space.

KindleBueno · 27/09/2017 17:24

I only discovered recently a gherkin is a pickled cucumber Shock

thecatfromjapan · 27/09/2017 17:25

I'm a bit Hmm at all the posters being a bit sniffy about it. Honestly, my tastes must be a lot less sophisticated than yours because I really did think it was a wonderful location for a wedding and the celebration afterwards.

guilty100 · 27/09/2017 17:29

Better that than one of the identikit stately homes people choose, where they act like wearing a pair of DMs with a dress in a historical setting is some kind of Angela Davis level of rebellion.

StigmaStyle · 27/09/2017 17:30

God I think it's mindblowingly fabulous. Being on top of an office building is really nothing to do with it - posh restaurants often are aren't they?

MrsGotobed · 27/09/2017 17:30

CuppaSarah
I was hoping someone was marrying two gherkins. Like sticking googly eyes on them and crocheting a little wedding dress and suit for them. Maybe a small broccoli floret for a bouquet

Then doing a fancy photoshoot.

Haha Grin OMG that is exactly what I was imagining and hoping for when I opened the thread.

Glad to see there are like-minded folks on mumsnet Grin

Theoistfit · 27/09/2017 17:30

I've been to a wedding there. It was gorgeous and a lot of fun. The groom used to get bonuses in the millions if that helps Grin.

StigmaStyle · 27/09/2017 17:31

Most weddings I've been to were in gloomy churches or stuffy country house hotels with terrible tartan carpets. Gherkin much more exciting.

BestIsWest · 27/09/2017 17:31

We had a finger buffet at our wedding evening do. It was trashed by the hordes of guests DM and DF had invited. By the time me and DH got a look in there was nothing left but one sausage roll and a pile of gherkins.

Slimthistime · 27/09/2017 17:33

re people hoping gherkins were getting married

I think OP needs to have gherkins (made of icing sugar of course) as wedding cake figures Grin

but people marrying at the Gherkin probably do that a lot!

brasty · 27/09/2017 17:34

I LOVE the Gherkin. Absolutely love it. Can I come?

PumpernickleInaWarehouse · 27/09/2017 17:35

I can totally make it gherkin themed if it will make you happy haha
Abd thank you to the nice posters posting loely pics.
Its for total hire of the whole floor for the afternoon/evening so no there will be no office workers popping by.
Its under a glass dome with what i think would be nice views of london at night.
It would usually be out my price range completely but after a really bad time and me deciding life is too short and an unexpexted windfall of 20 thousand a part of me thinks fuck it. Just do it.
So i started the thread to see if anyone had first hand experience of a wedding there.

the two parties I went to weren't weddings, one included dinner and the other just canapes. (can't find the accent on the ipad sorry!) I found the food really nice, but I admit I am not a posh food expert!

Slimthistime · 27/09/2017 17:41

then again, for that price you could take membership for years and years and add in hotel stays!

thecatfromjapan · 27/09/2017 17:41

Pumpernickle It sounds as if life is looking up for you - good, and may it stay that way.

Good luck for your wedding, wherever it may be. I wish you a day filled will love and warmth. And a lifetime of that, too. Flowers

1DAD2KIDS · 27/09/2017 17:42

Could you save a few quid and go for the Onion instead?

nowahousewife · 27/09/2017 17:44

Well if it's for your own wedding then definitely go for it if you love be the venue.

I would suggest having it at a time of year when you will get daylight as well as darkness as spotting all the London landmarks is more interesting by day and by night you can enjoy all the twinkly lights.

From memory the staff were v good at the party I went to (the host had a particular wine which I love and had told the staff to discreetly serve it only to me and keep my glass topped up!). Food good but it was a 50th not a wedding so canapés rather than a sit down meal.

Congratulations on you wedding!

Butterymuffin · 27/09/2017 17:45

Bet it would be great. And you must have gherkins as table favours. Little jars of cornichons or something. Googly eyes optional Smile

Slimthistime · 27/09/2017 17:45

1DAD2KIDS - I think you mean the Testicle.

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 27/09/2017 17:46

Would mirkins be a must?

YesVeryGoodVeryStrong · 27/09/2017 17:50

One would hope so Winter. It's certainly different OP and out of a lot of people's budgets so will be memorable. Also as a PP said isn't the city deserted on a weekend?

Lules · 27/09/2017 17:50

The photographer I had for my wedding did lots at the gherkin and said it wasn't that nice but I can't remember what she didn't like about it. Not helpful sorry

rubybleu · 27/09/2017 17:55

I hosted a work dinner there very recently. The food was pretty average at £135/head and their wine list shockingly bad. The view is simply spectacular though. I'd host the ceremony there then move everyone on to a different venue for the wedding breakfast.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/09/2017 17:56

Best I could find as trying to make burritos at the same time.
