Kids swimming unattended at Centre parcs

Hi. We are currently at CP with 3 other families. The kids are mixed ages with my DD being the youngest at 10 1/2. There are 2 kids older girls both 17, boy 18 , my DS 13 and his pal 12. The other parents all relaxed about their kids going swimming alone with no adults. Yesterday and today I have come along with

Usually you can swim unattended at pools from 8 years onwards. Unless the kids have additional needs or are weak swimmers then yes you are being unreasonable.

If there is an 18 and 17 yr old there I don't really think I would call that unaccompanied children!

An 18yo is an adult.

8 yos can go swimming alone.

I used to go swimming with friends, no parents at 10.

Surely you are not serious. You do realise that 3 of the 'kids' are old enough to work as paid lifeguards so I doubt they need looking after. My kids have bee regularly going swimming with friends since they were 9

If you don't want DD swimming 'alone' don't let her go. What other parents do is up to them, but 22 and upwards, really not an issue if they can all swim.

Your children ,your decision. I would stay with my 11 year old. You will have a parents intuition about what is right for your child. I'd go with that. Have fun though. Just been booking our activities for Christmas visit. Can't wait ☺

Aged 8+ is fine to swim on their own. Im sure if your kids can't swim they will stay in the shallow end.

Have no idea whatsoever why a parent needs to be with a child over that age unless the child has special needs. If that is the case then it surely is on their capabilities.
The parent of a child that doesn't have special needs wanting to stay with the child is pretty bizarre.

An 18 year old is an adult. My DD would piss herself laughing if I said she had to have me there supervising her at swimming. She drives and goes out to parties and does all kinds of things without me supervising.

I wouldnt see a 17 or 18yo as a child.

Children can go in the pool alone from 8yo.
If your child knows how to swim is going with an ADULT (the 18yo is an adult remember), I really wouldnt see the issue.

I'm not sure I'd leave an 8 yo unattended, but DS was perfectly competent to go round with his mate last year (he would have been just 10).

Please don't tell me you are following your 13yo son round Center Parcs pool?

I'd say YABU but I think some of the CP lifeguards receive less than decent training. My eldest is a life guard (not at CP) and we spoke to a CP life guard because we saw an empty child's life jacket floating on the water; they didn't look for anybody and just said that somebody had probably left it behind.

Any decent life guard knows that if you see an empty life jacket then the first thing you do is look for a casualty on the bottom of the pool. As it was we looked. An email complaint to CP was ignored.

However, none of that applies to 17 and 18 year olds.
