Hi. We are currently at CP with 3 other families. The kids are mixed ages with my DD being the youngest at 10 1/2. There are 2 kids older girls both 17, boy 18 , my DS 13 and his pal 12. The other parents all relaxed about their kids going swimming alone with no adults. Yesterday and today I have come along with

What are you concerned about? The 17/18 year olds feeling responsible?

Allywill · 24/09/2017 21:18

sorry breaststroke race

HotSteppa · 24/09/2017 21:20

Surely it depends on the child is your daughter a confident swimmer and happy to go with the others without you? Will they stick together as a group? You know your daughter so your call on that one. The other parents have no doubt made their own assessments regarding their own children. Go with your instinct.

Hmm You can be a lifeguard at 16.

Dontlaugh · 24/09/2017 21:22

What do their teachers think?

voddiekeepsmesane · 24/09/2017 21:22

A) 17 and 18 are NOT children and b) but 10/11 they really should be able to go off to a pool within a group IMO. DS is 13 but has met up with mates since 11 at the local swimming pool without me needing to be there. But I am completely at ease with DSs ability in water so maybe that would be a deciding factor

BeachyKeen · 24/09/2017 21:26

Are you saying you Are worried about the 17 and 18 year old, or worried about your own?
Can your kids swim well?

ShowMePotatoSalad · 24/09/2017 21:30

What's the actual AIBU? It looks like you missed off half of your last sentence

OP probably got distracted supervising the 18 year old "kid" Grin

Notcontent · 24/09/2017 21:34

Interesting views.

My dd is 11 and swims like a fish - she does competitive swimming at a club. But you know what - I wouldn't want her going swimming with friends without the supervision of a responsible adult. The reason is that accidents can happen - particularly when kids are mucking around.

RebelRogue · 24/09/2017 21:45

If ur kids need supervision, fine. If theirs don't,also fine.

JigglyTuff · 24/09/2017 22:04

There are loads of lifeguards at CP. 11 year old string swimmers shouldn't need close parental supervision as well
