Should I go to the out of hours appointment?

I had the mirena coil fitted 11 days ago. I'd had bits of old brown blood from when it was fitted but yesterday AF started - I have no idea of when I was due as I went on the mini pill after having DS2.
It was heavy (I don't usually have very heavy periods but I bleed nearly everyday on all other contraception) and I was getting through a few more pads then I thought was usual. Today I'm on my 5th pad. I leaked through my 3rd and 4th pad.
I phoned 111 because this amount of bleeding plus I feel really quite out of it. I can't keep awake, I'm having waves of hotness and I've also got pins and needles in both legs BUT I have experienced that before.
They have given me an appointment for 4.30pm at out of hours. I have 2 children under 5. We walked to the corner shop early this morning and came back after half way because I felt so dazed, that I wasn't concentrating properly on the roads.
I'm a bit concerned about dragging them out for it. Right this second I don't feel like I can even get them upstairs to wash/dress them etc!
Should I cancel it and wait til tomorrow when I have someone who can watch them? And I might feel a bit better then?

Please could you phone around family and friends to see if anyone can come over? Sounds like very heavy bleeding?

I think you need to go.
Call in any favours you can from friends and family to help.
If that's not available, feed the children whatever you don't have to prepare, and get a taxi organised to get you there.

Please keep the appointment - could a neighbour/friend watch the DC?

Actually, I'd phone 111 again just to be on the safe side.

Cab is a good idea! Don't know why I didn't think of that.
TBH I wish it was sooner because I feel shite.

Their dad is away with work and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon. Feel willy calling him back early!

Call 111 back tell them just how unwell you are feeling and have no adult who can be with you. Beg for an earlier appt, if you had a walk in centre I'd be telling you to go there!

Sit down with a cuppa. Eat something. Let DC veg in front of TV. If you don't feel any better in 1/2 hour, then yes, you need to call him back from work. You must, because alone with DC, if you're going downhill, you need someone there, and so do DC.

Yeah I would definitely ring back, tell them how out of it you feel and that you are alone in charge of young children. To be honest I would also be calling their dad back from work.

I'm not trying to scare you but alarm bells are ringing for me reading this.

Make it easy for yourself, call a cab, just stick a coat on over PJs so you don't have to get them dressed, take whatever food you have that doesn't require preparation.

Who do you know nearby? Friends, colleagues, other parents from nursery, neighbours? Ask whoever you can to have the kids for an hour. You need to be seen. Call their dad and tell him he needs to come back to cover things. It's just got to be done.

you would have been advised by 111 to call back immediately if any of your symptoms change or worsen...please do that, they need an update so they can reassess you asap.

Agree with Butter. Most people are helpful in the emergency situations.
You need to be seen, otherwise you can't take care of your kids. If you keep loosing blood, you will feel worse than better later on.

I have phoned back, someone from the out of hours will phone me within 2 hours. I did stress that I don't feel confident being at home with them feeling this unwell and don't know if it can wait 4 hours but because I have the same symptoms as when I called the first time I just have to sit tight. Children are eating spaghetti hoops on toast and watching Peppa

Defo don't eat anything until you are seen and clear fluids only until about an hour before you go for your appt.just in case you need an anaesthetic for the iud to be removed. But tbh, if I were you I wouldn't wait. I'd go to a&e. Get a taxi and go as soon as kids have eaten. The bleeding to the extent you have is not normal. The rest of the symptoms could be a virus etc but not really when combined with the blood loss. It could be that the iud has punctured your uterus or caused an infection. All are urgent and shouldn't wait.

Have the symptoms got worse since you first called them? Are you feeling unwell in yourself? If you are then make sure you stress that when you get the call back

I'm quite surprised that they have advised you to wait to be honest.

OP I really think you should go to a&e - like other pp's have said get a taxi and feed the kids whatever you can.

I'd make a pest of myself and phone 111 again (3rd time lucky..eh?) phone the children's dad as well. This is an emergency!
