Should I go to the out of hours appointment?

I had the mirena coil fitted 11 days ago. I'd had bits of old brown blood from when it was fitted but yesterday AF started - I have no idea of when I was due as I went on the mini pill after having DS2.
It was heavy (I don't usually have very heavy periods but I bleed nearly everyday on all other contraception) and I was getting through a few more pads then I thought was usual. Today I'm on my 5th pad. I leaked through my 3rd and 4th pad.
I phoned 111 because this amount of bleeding plus I feel really quite out of it. I can't keep awake, I'm having waves of hotness and I've also got pins and needles in both legs BUT I have experienced that before.
They have given me an appointment for 4.30pm at out of hours. I have 2 children under 5. We walked to the corner shop early this morning and came back after half way because I felt so dazed, that I wasn't concentrating properly on the roads.
I'm a bit concerned about dragging them out for it. Right this second I don't feel like I can even get them upstairs to wash/dress them etc!
Should I cancel it and wait til tomorrow when I have someone who can watch them? And I might feel a bit better then?

You're in the right place. Are the children with you? How are you feeling?

Mrsknackered · 24/09/2017 13:31

Children are with me until partner arrives. They're occupied with raisins and dinosaurs for the minute.
I feel very weak and clammy.

Mrsknackered · 24/09/2017 14:37

My blood pressure was 102/60 which they said was a bit low. I've had blood tests and a urine sample done, sitting back in the waiting room until a doctor calls for me.
DS1 needs a wee and DS2 is fast asleep on me. Ooops, I'm up north but thankfully partner is less than an hour away now Smile

Glad partner is close now. I North Yorkshire if you do need anything.

Supermagicsmile · 24/09/2017 18:45

How are you now op?

Mrsknackered · 24/09/2017 19:41

Hiya! I'm home. They've said I'm pretty anaemic and I've been given a prescription for iron tablets. The inside of my eye lid was very pale apparently.
My BP was still low when I was leaving so am seeing GP this week. Gynaecologist was pretty confident that the coil (and my uterus!) is still intact. I've been told to go straight back in if bleeding this heavy persists tomorrow and to rest for a couple of days.
Thank you all Flowers

Butterymuffin · 24/09/2017 19:43

Well that's something. Iron tablets will take a bit of time to work but you've got them now. And your partner is there to help now. I hope. Still take it easy, won't you?

RandomMess · 24/09/2017 19:51

Get your DH to go out and buy you either spatone or floradix - they get your iron levels back up quicker than iron tablets and don't make you constipated. For iron to be absorbed effectively you need to avoid tea & coffee and have good levels of I think VitC. Those products mix in the iron with the vits you need to absorb the iron.

Mrsknackered · 24/09/2017 20:33

Thanks for that Random. I will send him out after he has dropped DS to school, won't be anywhere around here still open.
Luckily I don't usually drink tea or coffee at all. I'm a weirdo who doesn't enjoy hot drinks, only a very sweet tea when ill or upset!

OP posts:
Hebenon · 24/09/2017 20:41

You can chuck spatone into a glass of orange juice and get your Vit C and iron that way. I am frequently anaemic and I second floradix/spatone/feroglobin as being way better than tablets.

RandomMess · 24/09/2017 20:42

Floradix doesn't taste great, I just used to neck it out the bottle!!! Holland & Barretts def sell a selection I should think most chemists do too.
