To find Justin Trudeau a nauseating poser?

I remember seeing a film about the competitive world of american cheerleaders.

One chant went like this: "We're sexy!, We're hot! We're everything you're not!"

I loved that wit, especially the juxtaposition of self promotion and diminishing the opponent.

It's not enough to praise your own merits. To really make yourself stand out, you have to put everyone else down.

There are many examples of what I'd call Juxta-posers in modern life.

They sing their own praises, and try to widen the morality gap further by implying you are some sort of reactionary yokel.

For example, we were talking about a mutual acquaintance at work who happens to be gay. Our office poser at work says: "He's gay. But I haven't got a problem with that."

As if to imply I did!

Strike a Pose! Vogue!

Of course, I was too dim to be able to articulate why this made me angry. It took me ages to spot the subtle way it was insinuated that The Office Poser was good and that I was a troglodyte! I'm more of an 'esprits d'escalier' type. In fact, words often don't come to me until three weeks later, never mind on the staircase.

Which brings me on to Justin Trudeau.

He's the worst Juxta-Poser ever. In the latest example of his Vogueing, he condemns men for, wait for it, 'Bro Culture'. He then goes on to lecture 'men' that they have to follow his example and be great feminists. Like him.

(What he was really saying was "look at me everybody. Just look at me!"). What an utterly cynical, selfish little creep.

What on earth is Bro Culture? If there is something like that, I've never been informed. I'm clearly not on the mailing list of 'The Patriarchy', because I never seem to get any updates on the manly conspiracy to control the world.

What annoys me about Trudeau is that he's demonising other men, just so he can look good by comparison.

I never trust men who declare themselves a feminist. Surely that's an accreditation that has to be earned anyway. You can't just appoint yourself can you? Isn't there an examining board?

Don't get me wrong, I am slowly being educated by feminism and I don't wet the bed about it any more (well not as much anyway) but I can't hack show boating male feminists.

What a ghastly poser this man is. I hope it all ends badly for him.

To quote another chant from those American cheer leaders: "That's alright, that's OK, but you're gonna pump our gas some day."

Am I being unreasonable to not like Trudeau, his straw man arguments and his ghastly moral exhibitionism?

Advice puh-lease!

I've very little knowledge of Canadian politics but he's super dishy. And Canada seems to be doing pretty well.

theancientmarinader · 24/09/2017 01:31

The last time I met the queen she was just pottering about making chit chat about medals and the weather, sweetie. And if you want me to name drop, rather than make broad statements about recognizing that people from different backgrounds generally have different political leanings, I would advise you don't. Grin The fab thing about the military is that it's a jolly small place, and most of the minor royals eat lunch in the Mess or pop into the bar at some point or other. And they have this terrible habit of making us host the most boring politicians, just because we have integrity and can be trusted not to run to the newspapers.

That REALLY wasn't name dropping. I wouldn't be so crass. Grin
Anyhoo, lovely chatting and all.

blueberrypie0112 · 24/09/2017 01:46

The bro culture, I guess they are referring to Bernie sander supporters (us politics). Just a term I heard around them because they seem have little concerns for women (like in healthcare, they want universal healthcare and they think the only way to do it is let conservatives repeal Obamacare/Medicaid but this would mean people will suffer - which is why they think it can work- and we may not have universal healthcare anytime soon if this happens)

blueberrypie0112 · 24/09/2017 01:50

A lot of us know Trump is joking, but it is still bad joke about violating a woman’s body as if her feelings don’t matter.

Lethaldrizzle · 24/09/2017 02:38

Trudeau or trump? Now that's a hard decision!

TheStoic · 24/09/2017 02:50

One chant went like this: "We're sexy!, We're hot! We're everything you're not!"

You lost me when you described this as 'wit'.

blueberrypie0112 · 24/09/2017 03:07

Would Justin put people’s life in danger including taking their healthcare away, or bully people on twitter and get them fired? Because I will take Justin anyway.

AuntyElle · 24/09/2017 05:06

"Also, grabbing someone by the pussy isn't terribly practical, as there's nothing to get hold of. I'm suspicious about that whole episode."
Ah, OK, you're a nasty, misogynistic troll. (Could have picked that up in the OP really.)

Also, grabbing someone by the pussy isn't terribly practical, as there's nothing to get hold of. I'm suspicious about that whole episode

I think there are about 14 women with harassment cases against Trump.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 24/09/2017 08:50

@AuntyElle

I'm sorry you feel that way. I didn't want to hurt your feelings.

I do wonder why people are so taken in by the words of politicians and will excuse their actual actions.

Donald Trumps words are offensive to people, I can see that. But he said them in private. By contrast, he's not married to a rapist, and he hasn't clung to political power by defending the rapist and attacking the victims of rape.

I would have thought public actions are far more hurtful than private words.

Which is also why I find Trudeau's empty posturing rather risible. I can't believe intelligent people will fall for it.

And those same people will even go so far as to twist the wording of my criticism in order to fit this simple pantomime politics narrative.

"You don't like Justin Trudeau! You must be a misogynist!"

It seems to me a very simplistic approach, just to think that everything Trump does is bad and everything Trudeau does is wonderful.

I find that pantomime politics a bit primitive and simplistic. I'm saddened that anyone with a different view has to be shut down. I always wonder why it's so important to repress free speech.

Just as eskimos have 32 words for snow, there's an growing number of words used to express intolerance. Troll. Nazi. Misogynist. etc... These are terms that have lost all their original meaning, through misuse, and now all they mean is "I can't tolerate your opinion"

Still, I hope you have a lovely day and find the strength to be a bit more broad minded and accepting of new ideas.

Oh, Christ.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 24/09/2017 08:59

@makeourfuture

True. He's a crude and charmless man.

Hillary Clinton's morals are up for question too.

Both of America's presidential candidates were under investigation at the time of the election.

The fact that people are so desperate to believe in the Pantomime politics model, where one candidate is wholly good and the other pure evil is rather disappointing.

it means that posers lIke Trudeau can play to the gallery, just by saying crowd pleasing nonsense. It's very dishonest.

That was the point I was making. Simple point. Don't know why people take such an objection to it.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 24/09/2017 09:12

The problem is the Trump sets the bar so low it makes vacuous posers like Trudeau look magnificent and people breathe a sigh of relief and vote for the Trudeau nonsense while feeling good about themselves.

PricklyBall · 24/09/2017 09:15

If you're going to talk about Canadian politics, OP, you might want to acquaint yourself with the fact that in Canada "eskimo" is an extremely offensive racial slur to use to describe Canada's indigenous peoples.

As I said, I suspect Trudeau of being a triumph of style over substance (bit like Tony Blair), but you, OP, are clearly on a right-wing goading mission.

SuperBeagle · 24/09/2017 09:21

Can't stand him.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 24/09/2017 09:26

@PricklyBall

thanks for this

I wasn't really talking about Canadian politics per se, just the ghastly spectacle of a man playing up to the prejudices of the audience in order to gain popularity.

Sorry about the Eskimo thing. I honestly didn't know it was a banned word. When was that ruled offensive? Why is it offensive? Please accept my apologies on behalf of all the indigenous people on whose behalf you have taken offence.

It's a lovely day outside, so I think I should go and get a life, but I will end by saying I had no intention of offending anyone or 'right wing trolling'.

Good grief. I was making the simple point that Trudeau is vacuous. But there are so many Justin Believers on here, so I might as well admit defeat.

I'm off in search of happiness now.

Toodle pip!

Trump was accused of rape (yes, there are court cases against him) as Bill Clinton was. And so Hillary Clinton decided to believe her husband would not rape anyone without their consent (affair, that’s a different story) , that’s her business, not ours

blueberrypie0112 · 24/09/2017 09:43

And I am still wondering why he ignored abusers on Football field but make a huge deal out of people kneeling to protest against police brutality

ShoesHaveSouls · 24/09/2017 10:01

YABVU.

Trump's on a mission to blow up the world, and you're moaning about Trudeau ? Confused

Trudeau deserves some sort of award for not being pulled around by Trump's stupid handshake.

ShoesHaveSouls · 24/09/2017 10:04

Must say that DH and I joke that Trudeau is, in fact, Ace Rimmer.

Especially after reading this article recently: G20 Justin Trudeau fixes translation issues

Brilliant posts OP!

MadgeMidgerson · 24/09/2017 12:44

Not really sure what the OP is after here, now he's making pass-ag comments about how it is wrong to refer to a people by the actual band of their nation?

U ok hun?

maybe this is better moved into relationships, loads of posters who can hand hold while you work thru your issue(s)

MadgeMidgerson · 24/09/2017 12:45

Soz my phone autocorrected 'name' to 'band'

Hope u got the gist anyway OP

ZenHeadbutt · 24/09/2017 13:39

Op, are you a 'blogger' by any chance? You sound like a blogger.
