To find Justin Trudeau a nauseating poser?

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 16:56

I remember seeing a film about the competitive world of american cheerleaders.

One chant went like this: "We're sexy!, We're hot! We're everything you're not!"

I loved that wit, especially the juxtaposition of self promotion and diminishing the opponent.

It's not enough to praise your own merits. To really make yourself stand out, you have to put everyone else down.

There are many examples of what I'd call Juxta-posers in modern life.

They sing their own praises, and try to widen the morality gap further by implying you are some sort of reactionary yokel.

For example, we were talking about a mutual acquaintance at work who happens to be gay. Our office poser at work says: "He's gay. But I haven't got a problem with that."

As if to imply I did!

Strike a Pose! Vogue!

Of course, I was too dim to be able to articulate why this made me angry. It took me ages to spot the subtle way it was insinuated that The Office Poser was good and that I was a troglodyte! I'm more of an 'esprits d'escalier' type. In fact, words often don't come to me until three weeks later, never mind on the staircase.

Which brings me on to Justin Trudeau.

He's the worst Juxta-Poser ever. In the latest example of his Vogueing, he condemns men for, wait for it, 'Bro Culture'. He then goes on to lecture 'men' that they have to follow his example and be great feminists. Like him.

(What he was really saying was "look at me everybody. Just look at me!"). What an utterly cynical, selfish little creep.

What on earth is Bro Culture? If there is something like that, I've never been informed. I'm clearly not on the mailing list of 'The Patriarchy', because I never seem to get any updates on the manly conspiracy to control the world.

What annoys me about Trudeau is that he's demonising other men, just so he can look good by comparison.

I never trust men who declare themselves a feminist. Surely that's an accreditation that has to be earned anyway. You can't just appoint yourself can you? Isn't there an examining board?

Don't get me wrong, I am slowly being educated by feminism and I don't wet the bed about it any more (well not as much anyway) but I can't hack show boating male feminists.

What a ghastly poser this man is. I hope it all ends badly for him.

To quote another chant from those American cheer leaders: "That's alright, that's OK, but you're gonna pump our gas some day."

Am I being unreasonable to not like Trudeau, his straw man arguments and his ghastly moral exhibitionism?

Advice puh-lease!

maybe that's it. he's not much different than harper but portrays himself to be by speaking political jargon that spins around.
during the Canada 150 celebration he was much more natural and notably did NOT STUTTER. but every time he speaks politics he stammers away.
hence my opinion his calling is more in line with tv broadcasting.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/09/2017 21:58

I voted NDP Grin

AuntyElle · 23/09/2017 22:05

"Where do people get the idea that there is a uniform block of white men who organised everything to entirely benefit themselves."

hahaha. Is this irony, OP? Or do you not get out* much?

I just watched the clip to which you refer. My evidence that you appear to have something against women was based solely on your dislike of a man claiming that women are equal to men, and that men should shut down bro culture in locker rooms as a matter of course. So, either you object to the actual specific content of his message (which would be weird for a right-on dude such as yourself) or you object to the virtue signalling nature of his message as a world leader, suggesting to the lesser enlightened that they might catch up with you on these matters

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/09/2017 22:17

@theancientmarinader you might want to give the OP some aloe with that burn Grin

BMacklin · 23/09/2017 22:30

Slam dunk from ancient

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 22:38

@theancientmarinader

Ah, OK there is a lot to cover here.

I'll address the bits that hurt most, as they are more memorable.

I need an entire make-over now? Well thanks a bunch.

  1. er, I thought the video about 'locker room' bro culture was pathetic/ I've been in lots of male changing rooms and men's toilets. I'm assuming I'm more familiar with them than you. I promise you, in all the decades I've spent getting changed for football, or having a shower, I can't remember a single conversation anyone has had about women. Not in a derogatory way. It's more likely to anything other that their loves lives, or lack of them. Men don't talk about that. Especially when you're thinking about the game you're about to play and the opposition are getting changed on the other side of the room. That's a very dangerous place to start talking about your relationships. a lot of the time in a sports team you're playing with people because they're good at sport and not necessarily your close friends.
So I can honestly say, hand on heart, women are almost never talked about in changing rooms/locker rooms. Neither do we compare our penises. (Another ludicrous myth)

Trudeau must know that, and yet he chose to play up to the stereotype, the devious little creep, because he knew it would earn him approval points. even though there is no locker room misogyny or 'Bro Culture'.

What man in his right mind would want to favour a complete stranger over the rights of his wife or girlfriend or mother or daughters. I had three sisters, two I love and get on really well with, an older one that I can't really stand for too long, but I love her. (If that makes sense). I'd defend even the massively pompous one before I took any man's side.

Bro Culture? that's a ridiculous projection.

I do agree there was terrible sexism. and is. Sorry about that.

Anyway, i can't remember the other point I was upset about.

No I'm not Canadian, so I'm not as invested in the politics of the nation as you are obviously. But I do see him as a poser who runs in front of the parade and pretends to be leading it.

Anyway, I do admire your knowledge and schooling, but I wish you'd stop picking on my physical appearance! Thanks

sooooo weirrrrrrd the way no man is ever sexist, and yet the world is full to the tits with misogyny

Makes u think, eh

MadgeMidgerson · 23/09/2017 22:42

Like woooooo spooky, right?

Maybe all the misogyny is coming from mold spores? we will probs never know :(

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 22:48

@ancientMarinader

I remember the other point now. Where did I say I disliked Trudeau because he said women are equal to men?

I never said that. I said he was demonising men on the false pretence that we have this 'Bro Culture' and, for no apparent reason, we use locker rooms to organise conspiracies against the women in our lives, even though that would be an illogical and self defeating type of behaviour.

That's what we in England would call an Aunt Sally argument. An artificial enemy is created and then easily destroyed.

I'm not sure where I was supposedly virtue signalling.

I don't agree with you that it's necessary for politicians to strike poses and virtue signal. I think it's damaging in the long run.

Thanks for listening

Meh, I think he's ace and wish I was Canadian.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 22:55

@MadgeMidgerson

Oh Madge, Madge, Madgey, Madge,

I didn't say no man is ever sexist.

There's a popular myth that locker rooms are full of men saying derogatory things about women. All I'm saying is that's nonsense.

Pubs are the place for sexism. You've got more time and you're sitting comfortably and you don't have some other bloke's arse in your face while you're trying to put your socks on.

The fact that Trudeau played up to the stereotype, which is false, tells its own story about his veracity.

OP posts:
Rainbunny · 23/09/2017 22:57

I love Trudeau! But only because I find him very easy on the eyes Grin

Honestly though, what politician DOESN'T have a huge ego? He isn't any worse than other politicians and my God I'd rather have him over Trump! I have a lot of Canadian friends since I used to work there and they are not very impressed with him, so I understand the fair criticism leveled at him. I still enjoy looking at him though!

TheBadTemperedLadybird · 23/09/2017 22:58

YABU - he rocks

MadgeMidgerson · 23/09/2017 23:01

i bet you are cute when you're cross OP

but seriously so empowering to see a man interested in politics, you go, boy!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/09/2017 23:02

Not a fan.

He's too full of himself.

JigglyTuff · 23/09/2017 23:12

YANBU. He's a twat

ZenHeadbutt · 23/09/2017 23:15

Your OP is painful to read ( you sound like Russel Brand and that's NOT a compliment 😂)but the general premise the Justin Trudeau is pretentious vain twit is correct.

I don't think much of him at all.

theancientmarinader · 23/09/2017 23:17

Meh. You're just trolling, now, op. I rather suspect that the focus on locker rooms was due to the erm, southern issue around locker room discussions. Speech writing doesn't actually happen in a vacuum and you'd have to be spectacularly thick not to have grasped that reference, no? And duh. We don't acksherly have pubs Wink. Well, except Irish ones where they turn the fecking Guinness green in some insane belief that it's 'tradishun'.

Rain bunny, I have lots of Canadian friends who adore Trudeau. In the same way that there seems to be some sort of division over the American leadership... It takes all sorts. Grin

Certainly my gay, Green, academic, indigenous and indigiqueer friends like him more than my oil buddies do, though. Despite the usual misgivings about how efficacious any politician can ever be...

theancientmarinader · 23/09/2017 23:20

Oh and op - you might have missed the bit where I said I was ex-military. Please don't attempt to inform me what the menz are really like, and how misunderstood they all iz, and how it's so totes false that blokes talk about women in any way other than the most deeply respectful terms. Because if anything is big fat hairy swinging bollocks, that is.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 23:27

@theancientmarinader

The 'southern issue'. You mean Donald Trump's comment about women allowing him to grab them by the pussy? He was probably joking.

Also, grabbing someone by the pussy isn't terribly practical, as there's nothing to get hold of. I'm suspicious about that whole episode.

It turned out that the whole Trump Get's Golden Showers story was false too.

I'm amazed that people will happily repeat that story, knowing it not to be true. They are echoing the Big Lie tactics developed by head of The Gestapo. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Goebbels)

I think the real act of grabbing men by the Goebbels is arguably worse than the mythical act that Trump is said to have boasted about.

I'm impressed by your diverse range of friends. However, you should never name drop - the Queen told me that

OP posts:
OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 23:31

@theancient

Fair point about your ex-military background. Yes, men do talk about women unfairly.
