To think a single man travelling to Thailand regularly is up to no good

My uncle (who I am not particularly close to) travels to Thailand alone several times a year. He is in his mid 50s and has lived with my grandad since divorcing his wife around 20 years ago.
It's suddenly occurred to me that he's probably up to no good :/

YANBU any single man going anywhere abroad repeatedly is only ever going for sex. No man ever had any interest in anything else and Thailand has nothing else to offer anyone anyway. Hmm

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/09/2017 18:53

It's not the young and beautiful that go there for the sex trade

What absolute bollocks and do you think it matters to a prostitute that has been used by hundreds of men if the man is 80 or 21 Hmm they are not in it for their own desires or pleasure

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 23/09/2017 18:53

PinkTiger
She's from Africa, French speaking. She's very independent and I suppose they both sort of get something out of the relationship.

mogulfield · 23/09/2017 18:54

I've seen too many documentaries about underage sex tourism in Thailand to think he's there for wholesome reasons. Which is probably unfair of me.

Chestervase1 · 23/09/2017 18:54

Sharksden so the videos of the flooding were made up as well. He didn't go to the Full Moon party either, he was advised by the owner of hotel not to go and as it happens many were injured, because the fireworks went into the crowd instead of up into the sky. As I said they won't be going back as they prefer Ibiza and are not interested in exploiting poor people. One of them paid £1000 for an operation for a dog. They also don't need their balls rubbed by poor prostituted young girls. Not all men exploit women.

Lweji · 23/09/2017 18:55

Yes, maybe he's looking into converting to Buddhism.
He'll come back in orange robes next time.

FineOldCriminals · 23/09/2017 18:56

Just because British women are sex tourists in other countries, User, doesn't make it OK for men also to be sex tourists Confused

VeryCunningStunt · 23/09/2017 19:00

Mind your own business!! So what if he’s up to no good he’s a grown man and as you said you’re ‘not particularly close’

Out of interest, where do you stand on the issue of wealthy Western men paying for sex with women forced into prostitution by extreme poverty? Or have you not given it much thought?

TeachesOfPeaches · 23/09/2017 19:01

My dad has run off to Thailand by himself. Was with my mum for 30 years and has 3 children. He has changed his contact details and gone NC with us all for no reason. He is living in the sex capital and strongly suspect lady boys are involved Confused

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 23/09/2017 19:01

Boneyback it's not that I don't like him, it's just he's punching well above his weight. And what do you call a man who has married a woman who needs a passport/working visa? He's not doing it out of the goodness of his own heart. I'd call it bordering on prostitution, so it's not that I don't like him, I find his morals a bit Hmm

sharksDen · 23/09/2017 19:04

"Not all men exploit women."

Who said they did? Besides which, ball-cupping for many times the average national wage suggests it isn't the women being exploited.

As well as full moon parties, there are half moon parties, no moon parties, 3rd Wednesday of the month parties ...

"One of them paid £1000 for an operation for a dog."

An actual 'LOL'. I would bet my pension on this not happening. At best, a soi dog netted someone £1k. Our dog being bitten by a cobra and being treated for 3 weeks cost 1/3 of this. Admittedly only a small envenomation. Wouldn't have cost a penny if properly bitten!

mogulfield · 23/09/2017 19:12

It's interesting someone else mentioned Gambia. My DH and I couldn't believe how many middle aged British women we saw with young, strapping Gambian men!
Some of them seemed to be out there hunting in packs.

lovemylover · 23/09/2017 19:14

Thai women might run businesses here and make money, like the ones who married the person i was referring too, but it was his money, that they would benefit from, but when they are in Thailand they are very submissive,
I also know someone who met a chinese woman and brought her back here,he married her, but brags to people how she does as she is told,
I told him what i thought of him, disgusting, she was from a poor part of China, so probably very grateful to get out
He isnt that well off either, but might be to her,a lot younger than him too,he showed me a photo

"you should see the women in the Gambia" - curious, what does that mean, user14?

It means, you should see the fat middle aged British white women pretending that they are in a relationship with the local Gambian men.

JaneEyre70 · 23/09/2017 19:16

Whatever he's doing out there really doesn't bear thinking about OP. I'd give it a wide berth from now on. I love that people think it's for the scenery and beaches though Grin.

Please tell me you're joking.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/09/2017 19:36

I think it's bollocks about Thai women being submissive in the main ... in the home or workplace they are not at all submissive

You're probably right, if the accounts of men who've been bled dry by Thai brides they brought back to the UK are anything to go by. It happened to a guy I used to employ and he'll never be free of the debt

I have no idea why the situation isn't policed more

Many believe the pandemic corruption includes the police, and that they're also up to their armpits in it

Naturebabe · 23/09/2017 19:47

Stacey Dooley did a shocking programme recently on Thailand. I would be very very suspicious.....

sharksDen · 23/09/2017 20:06

Naturebabe

Can you manage to think of any reason why a documentary would be edited and produced to be shocking?

I'm probably being very naïve here but people are saying underage girls? I know of two men (9one in late 40s one 24) who go there. Both would have no women here getting women here and they both openly say they go for the sex and the night life. I'm worried now that underage girls might be involved Sad surely police could arrest men who do that when they come home?

icebearforpresident · 23/09/2017 20:21

He's going there for one reason.

As part of my job (estate agent) i have to take photo id for all clients. One guys, mid 60's posted his passport to us as he lives a few hours away. It was literally full of visa's for thailand. When we got an offer for his house he phoned me from the beach, where he was 'with his girlfriend' 😝. Thankfully we got through the transaction without me having to ever meet him.
