Ok, so I know its an old film, but it's a favourite and I recently rewatched it. And I will brace myself for no replies.

But it's so good. Every line is a classic. And not many of my peers have seen it/share my sense of humour. So in case of any like minded ones...

Also if you love the film get the screenplay, the stage directions are as funny as the dialogue

Very important if you ever play the Withnail &I drinking game that you use vinegar rather than anti freeze, as they did in the filming, especially given that even the bums on the street wouldn't touch that stuff.

About 12 years ago we noticed someone who looked extremely like Paul McGann next to us in a pub in Belfast. After much nudging and muttering a conversation was initiated. It was indeed him and he was LOVELY! He was visiting a friend and they were just out for a good night. He delivered several lines from the film (many that weren't his), bought drinks, and ended up playing tambourine on stage with the band. Next morning when sober we realised just how surreal the whole night had been

i love the empty roads, not as many cars on the road back then.
the actual story i dont recall really.

As a side note, I often start looking motorway journeys with Jimi Hendrix on loud.

Had a viewing in the local pub when I was pregnant a year ago, my back was killing and it was the most uncomfortable I'd been but it was amazing 😀

Just had to rewatch this for the umpteenth time thanks to this thread. I NEVER get bored of it. It's perfect.

I just googled the person who was the inspiration for it, he died a lot later than I'd thought at 50 - I wonder what he thought of the film
