Ok, so I know its an old film, but it's a favourite and I recently rewatched it. And I will brace myself for no replies.

But it's so good. Every line is a classic. And not many of my peers have seen it/share my sense of humour. So in case of any like minded ones...

FORK IT!!

Some other fleeting female characters: the girls who are called 'SCRUBBERS!' who respond with 'Up yours, granddad!' Grin

Albatross26 · 23/09/2017 15:57

What's that? (With a twig) the fuel and wood situation

DamsonGin · 23/09/2017 15:57

We're multi-millionaires.

Albatross26 · 23/09/2017 15:58

Also if you love the film get the screenplay, the stage directions are as funny as the dialogue

DamsonGin · 23/09/2017 16:02

Very important if you ever play the Withnail &I drinking game that you use vinegar rather than anti freeze, as they did in the filming, especially given that even the bums on the street wouldn't touch that stuff.

Blondielongie · 23/09/2017 16:35

Don't you mean arseholes on the side? 😂

Blondielongie · 23/09/2017 16:40

Noo the wankers on the side dont drink that!

We played the drinking game in uni. Avoided the lighter fluid. The whisky....Oh dear.

About 12 years ago we noticed someone who looked extremely like Paul McGann next to us in a pub in Belfast. After much nudging and muttering a conversation was initiated. It was indeed him and he was LOVELY! He was visiting a friend and they were just out for a good night. He delivered several lines from the film (many that weren't his), bought drinks, and ended up playing tambourine on stage with the band. Next morning when sober we realised just how surreal the whole night had been Grin

The80sweregreat · 23/09/2017 18:02

i love the empty roads, not as many cars on the road back then.
the actual story i dont recall really.

DamsonGin · 23/09/2017 18:17

As a side note, I often start looking motorway journeys with Jimi Hendrix on loud.

fannythrobbing · 23/09/2017 19:02

I was talking about this film today, I still bloody love it! My boyfriend doesn't get it at all.
"We want the finest wines available to humanity!"
I do too but I'm thoroughly pregnant.
Thanks for this thread!

Blondielongie · 23/09/2017 19:17

Blondielongie · 23/09/2017 19:18

That's a jealous 'hmmmm' not a dubious 'hmmm' btw Grin

"Look at that accident black spots. These aren't accidents they're throwing themselves into th e road gladly!" . Classic film with gorgeous boys

DamsonGin · 23/09/2017 21:43

Would out be wrong to plagiarise a toast? Depends entirely upon the quality of the wine.

sarebear1983 · 23/09/2017 22:09

Right you fucker, I'm going to do the washing up!!
Had a viewing in the local pub when I was pregnant a year ago, my back was killing and it was the most uncomfortable I'd been but it was amazing 😀

Pivoine · 24/09/2017 00:21

Just had to rewatch this for the umpteenth time thanks to this thread. I NEVER get bored of it. It's perfect.

And seriously, how utterly brilliant is Richard E Grant in this?

And given that Bruce Robinson wrote every single quotable line, how utterly brilliant is he?

Pivoine · 24/09/2017 00:22

I will never tire of ' I demand to have some booze!'

ohhereweareagain · 24/09/2017 00:24

Keep your bag up 😊

ohhereweareagain · 24/09/2017 00:26

It's on't back

BulletFox · 24/09/2017 00:31

I just googled the person who was the inspiration for it, he died a lot later than I'd thought at 50 - I wonder what he thought of the film

ohhereweareagain · 24/09/2017 00:34

They're the sort of Windows faces look in at 😊

ARichVernacular · 24/09/2017 07:53

Warm up? Might as well sit round a cigarette.
