I'll start; we do not wear shoes in our house, that means they get taken off at the door, none of this "can I just pop to the toilet?" Business, no bloody take them off!!
Please do not let drop horrendous gut farts in the bloody hallway so that every time I move from one room to the other I want to vomit.
And please stop touching stuff when you haven't washed your hands!!
Please note I am OCD diagnosed.
Oh, and talking to me when I am in another room to you, I cannot hear you!
I wish people would respect the way that our home is, if you don't like it then don't come over.

Whats wrong with asking for wifi code if your staying at someones house?

Someoneasdumbasthis · 23/09/2017 08:19

God you lot are a barrel of laughs.

Only thing in all of the above that would fuck me off would be leaving skid marks in the loo. But I can't say I've ever known anyone video is enough to do that.

By the way shoes off inside is a big no no! Awfully bad manners to make your guests remove their shoes.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 23/09/2017 08:19

*hideous. Not video is.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 23/09/2017 08:46

I'm fairly easy going really...but...

Bring their dog. People do it because I have a dog. Except now there are 2 dogs in the house in one case 3. Taking up more space having more muddy paws and shedding more hair. Adding up to more work for me. People are all Hmm when I say don't bring your dog. I've got a rabbit, you don't automatically bring your rabbit do you?

I'm also not overly keen on unexpected visitors, I'm usually in the middle of something. I'm looking at you mother.

Yerroblemom1923 · 23/09/2017 09:27

Asking for the Wi-Fi code is rude because it basically means your guests would rather be surfing the web, checking emails etc rather than spending time with you...who they've chosen to visit!!
We had a babysitter do this once, (which to me meant they'd be on their mob all night rather than babysitting - I don't mind once dd is asleep but prior to that I expect a little input from the babysitter!) I always say I don't know it (we're v low tech so it's quite plausible!)

LegoShmego · 23/09/2017 09:42

But yerro if you're staying at someone's house it's nice to be able to chill out in bed in the morn on net?
Staying with people is overwhelming so it's nice to have a bit of time.

StarHeartDiamond · 23/09/2017 09:43

Someone - video Grin I thought you were "down with the kids", you should have left it uncorrected!

I don't have rules for house guests, I want them to feel comfortable visiting us. But then I have coped with my DB, the worst possible house guest! He's got MH problems so I obviously don't complain to him about how bad he smells, and the way he always breaks something but he no longer gets invited as he scares the DDs.

The one thing I really don't like is people leaving shit in the toilet bowl after using the toilet, absolutely gross, wouldn't you clean after yourself, that's what a toilet brush is for??

For the PP who said he would never shut his dog away, what about if a family member dated someone who is allergic to dogs? (My DH is one like that.) I have cats and I don't mind keeping them out of the way if guests are allergic/don't like cats. It's a safety issue with young children as well, how do parents know that a dog won't lash out? You can never be entirely sure. And children not used to dogs can be afraid. I actually like dogs, that doesn't mean I entirely trust dogs I don't know. (I'm comfortable with my friend's dog, though she generally keeps him in the kitchen when she has visiting children.)

Mittens1969 · 23/09/2017 10:20

Weedsneeds1, I'm so sorry about your poor cat, that's horrible. Flowers

therealpippi · 23/09/2017 10:33

OMG! Never knew there were so many RULES!
Now I know why it is so difficult to get into a British home.

mittens I tend to shut my dog away in my bedroom. Yes it's his house too, so he is entitled to some peace & quiet when dc friends are round.

Mittens1969 · 23/09/2017 14:14

@LegoShmego, the same is true of my cats, actually. They hate the excitement when children come to visit and stay out of the way. They're used to the DDs being here.

What I think, really, is that there's a delicate balance between being a good host to your visitors and not allowing our pets to get distressed, especially when kids visit, as yes it's their home too.

My previous elderly cat didn't cope when children visited and would hide until they had gone. Sadly, she didn't cope at all when DD1 came to live with us and developed a stress related illness which led to her having to be PTS. It was very distressing to go through that.
