To think that someone is trying to recruit my partner as a spy

In the last 2 weeks, my boyfriend has received 4 parcels from Amazon that he didn't order. Addressed to him, at our house, but not showing on his order history. On calling Amazon, they are adamant that someone has sent them to him as a gift, and has paid for all four items using a gift card.

Parcel one... a strange wire.
Parcel two.. another strange wire.
Parcel three... a Bluetooth earpiece (do people still use these?!)
Parcel four which arrived today.. A baseball cap with a hidden spy camera! WTF!

We have NO idea who would send these. AIBU to think he is being recruited as a spy, with his mission brief to follow?! Grin Or is there a reasonable explanation for this?

Sounds like fraud - someone's using his card which is obviously linked to your address, amusing as it all is you need to check your bank and find out what's going on. Amazon will be able to trace whose card was used to pay for the item - just phone and ask!

MorningCuppa · 20/09/2017 15:16

Ella the op says that an amazon gift card was used.

Ellapaella · 20/09/2017 15:19

Oh sorry, I missed that. How vey mysterious then...

This is the best thread this week! Any updates OP?

We once had 2 boxes full of very nice wine turn up at our door. Tried to explain to the driver we didn't order it, sure enough had our address on it but a previous tenants name.
We contacted the landlord to see if he had a forwarding address, so we could let the wine company know, but he'd a apparently moved to a nursing home and had died the previous year. So we tried to hunt down family on Facebook but didn't have much to go on, never got a reply from anyone we messaged.
So we ended up calling the wine company to let them know we'd had no luck. They told us to keep the wine as it was already paid for. So we shared it out with our neighbours who had also been trying to track family down.

I'm disappointed I order from Amazon quite often and stuff doesn't turn up never mind interesting and intriguing things I haven't actually ordered appearing

AprilLady4 · 23/09/2017 11:08

Any update, OP?

ChangeroOfNamero · 27/09/2017 17:29

I have an update! Another parcel today. Three different coloured iPhone charger leads. DP's name is spelt incorrectly on the parcel again - last character of surname missing.
It's driving me mad now - WHO is sending these?!

Tie them around a plant pot and leave it on the window.

viques · 27/09/2017 17:51

Three different coloured leads. That is clearly some sort of code, maybe an anagram, or an indication of which safe drops to use eg. Greenwich, Redcar ,what colours were they?

StorminaBcup · 27/09/2017 17:55

You realise OP that if your BF was a spy he'd have to say he wasn't. Hiding in plain sight and all that.

You ain't seen me, right

gruffaloshmuffalo · 27/09/2017 17:59

Ooo

ChangeroOfNamero · 27/09/2017 18:26

Maybe they are intended to someone else, in fact, looked for the address and got the wrong one, with the wrong name.

Lweji · 27/09/2017 18:29

You could also practice a question in Russian and see if he answers back when he's distracted or half asleep.

SerfTerf · 27/09/2017 20:10

Or try saying something like "The sparrows head to the recreation ground at equinox" to the courier who delivers the parcels and see how he reacts.

Wow!

Two or three months ago I had a parcel from Amazon containing a rather superior blow up neck support for use when travelling. It had absolutely no paperwork with it. I did try to find out online how to email or call Amazon but couldn't find any contact details for them, so I decided not to bother sending it back as I wasn't going to pay postage for something I hadn't ordered. I did look at my bank account and my Amazon account to make sure a) I hadn't been billed it - I hadn't and b) I hadn't accidentally ordered it in a demented moment - I hadn't. Last month my newish dog stole it and took it into a corner and chewed the valve off before I noticed, so I never got to use it.

This is what I suspected from reading the first post. Quite funny though.

Similar story, my parents live in France. Last year, I sent them a package for xmas, but they were a bit confused about some of the presents/card in it as it includes DVD/books in English that I certainly hadn't sent them. They were packed in xmas paper in the box I'd sent them. It was all a bit odd, so they sent them to me and indeed, nothing I'd put in that box. We could only assume that the box was opened by customs and they put the presents in the wrong box. The box didn't looked tempered though, so they are very skilled!

Felt sorry for the people though as the note said to 'Dad and Nancy, sorry we can't be together, so hope these little presents will cheer you up', or something like that, and clearly they won't have received it. I did post on FB just in case, but it didn't get to the senders or receivers!
