To think that someone is trying to recruit my partner as a spy

In the last 2 weeks, my boyfriend has received 4 parcels from Amazon that he didn't order. Addressed to him, at our house, but not showing on his order history. On calling Amazon, they are adamant that someone has sent them to him as a gift, and has paid for all four items using a gift card.

Parcel one... a strange wire.
Parcel two.. another strange wire.
Parcel three... a Bluetooth earpiece (do people still use these?!)
Parcel four which arrived today.. A baseball cap with a hidden spy camera! WTF!

We have NO idea who would send these. AIBU to think he is being recruited as a spy, with his mission brief to follow?! Grin Or is there a reasonable explanation for this?

Watching with interest as my DH has as well I wonder if it's a problem with Amazon.
So far addressed to him at his work address he had had:
Pair of headphones
2x silicone saucepan lids
Cookie cutters

It's all very strange thought it was a joke at first but keeps happening

TheMightyPigsbum · 18/09/2017 21:18

I think we need to see the wires 🤔

DH got a vegetable peeler once, not quite as intriguing but it's still a mystery!

I ordered a breast pump and received a table lamp, the customer services bot I was chatting to asked me if I was sure it was the wrong item Grin

Has anybody sent him anything legitimately from Amazon recently?? If so they're ordering it for themselves (weird) and they've not changed back from his address!

Viviennemary · 20/09/2017 12:18

I think he could actually be a spy and not telling you. So he won't be pleased when he finds it's all over MN and maybe even in the DM. Grin

I received a small package from Hong Kong yesterday. It contained one blue marble. I have no idea.

EBearhug · 20/09/2017 12:27

I thought MI5 just recruited by advertising in MN jobs these days.

Notanothergiraffe · 20/09/2017 12:28

I fee really quite upset now, I order from Amazon a lot and only ever get what I've ordered SadEnvy

Herestoinsanity · 20/09/2017 14:13

10storey I may have an answer to that.
For Hong Kong and China to receive cheap postage rates they have to send a certain amount out a year. I don't understand it all but this is what I was told from a Chinese manufacturer I deal with.
So at some point each year they have to make up any shortfall by sending out usually empty jiffy bags although I have recieved hair bobbles and all sorts of random stuff.

SerfTerf · 20/09/2017 14:14

I don't think that's a spy recruitment technique. Must be a weird joke.

10storeylovesong · 20/09/2017 14:41

herestoinsanity thanks for that, I've been bemused since yesterday!

UnicornSparkles1 · 20/09/2017 14:55

This is hilarious! totally thinking about doing this to my dad

Roomba · 20/09/2017 14:58

My friend's mother sent her a gift via Amazon then forgot to change the address back for her next delivery - a set of BDSM themed erotic novels!

She's never quite been able to look at her mother the same way since Grin

HateSummer · 20/09/2017 15:00

Placemarking!

safariboot · 20/09/2017 15:04

Could be somebody had placed the order with fraudulent payment and planned to intercept the delivery, but failed the intercept. Although Amazon saying it was paid for by gift card seems to contradict that.
