To think that someone is trying to recruit my partner as a spy

In the last 2 weeks, my boyfriend has received 4 parcels from Amazon that he didn't order. Addressed to him, at our house, but not showing on his order history. On calling Amazon, they are adamant that someone has sent them to him as a gift, and has paid for all four items using a gift card.

Parcel one... a strange wire.
Parcel two.. another strange wire.
Parcel three... a Bluetooth earpiece (do people still use these?!)
Parcel four which arrived today.. A baseball cap with a hidden spy camera! WTF!

We have NO idea who would send these. AIBU to think he is being recruited as a spy, with his mission brief to follow?! Grin Or is there a reasonable explanation for this?

How incredibly strange.
When a sports bag turns up I'd start refusing parcels.

naomi83mother · 18/09/2017 19:26

I would be so freaked out!!!!!

naomi83mother · 18/09/2017 19:27

It's like something from a film!

viques · 18/09/2017 19:28

be very careful if he gets a watch, it could be ANYTHING, an explosive, a communication tool, a garrotting wire, a small nuclear device, a remote control for a super car, a personal hover machine, a thing for redirecting satellites owned by megalomaniacs, a tin of cat food, a compass, a device for telling the time... Honestly, believe me, I've seen the movies.

Maybe it is one of those mystery adventure gifts. Essentially you pay x amount for a company to send various clues to a recipient of your choice and then reveal that it was a gift at the end. On aside note my DH was recruited by MI5 in his youth, this isn't how they do things.

NYConcreteJungle · 18/09/2017 19:30

Have you tried out the camera cap?

Letmesleepalready · 18/09/2017 19:32

Grin viques

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 18/09/2017 19:33

..does someone think you're having an affair and attempting to hint to him to do some spying??

CherriesInTheSnow · 18/09/2017 19:39

Oooh creepy, place marking too! Grin

Does he have an amazon wish list?
I do remember a story in the paper a couple of years back where a young man was receiving amazon returns - he contacted them many times and was told to keep it all - the stuff was worth thousands!

MsJudgemental · 18/09/2017 19:49

DS has just received a letter from amazon with a film card in it with someone else's name on.....

Miserylovescompany2 · 18/09/2017 19:49

Next a prepaid mobile phone - which soon after opening receives the first message/command...

I wonder if the cap with camera can be viewed remotely - now that would freak me out if a phone was sent with a picture from inside your home?!

yes, I've got a very vivid imagination

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 18/09/2017 19:52

I order from Amazon all the time and I only ever get what I've bloody ordered! I'm quite cross now Angry

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 18/09/2017 19:54

Hm, the sender is barking up the wrong tree. Any would-be spy would never reveal the deliveries Grin

Hassled · 18/09/2017 19:56

onemorecup makes a good point - if you're a bit click-happy, as I have been, it might default to the last delivery address you used. I managed to send stuff to a friend in Germany once just out of sheer stupidity. So has anyone genuinely sent him a parcel in the last couple of months or so - someone who then might be ordering spy stuff for themselves without realising they have the wrong default address?

Piratesandpants · 18/09/2017 19:59

Oh this is so, so cool Smile out of curiosity, does your DP look the part?

NobodyKnowsMeAtAll · 18/09/2017 19:59

Just be careful if any of the following turns up:

  1. A freezer and a machete.
  2. A large spade and some replacement patio slabs.
thathappened · 18/09/2017 20:00

I would take pics so we can at least see, please Grin

gingerbreadmam · 18/09/2017 20:01

oh damn i want to see the hat.

overnightangel · 18/09/2017 20:02

Shameless place markSmile

Redcrayons · 18/09/2017 20:03

Intriguing. Who knew spy camera hats were a real life thing.

Do you have any small children and one click ordering set up

BenLui · 18/09/2017 20:04

Well if he was being recruited as a spy you've just wrecked it for him through your lack of discretion...

Grin
bananafanana1 · 18/09/2017 20:05

My mum had stuff she'd not ordered delivered from a catalog (trainers and the like). She reported it to the catalogue company.

Turns out it's a scam- they said someone will turn up pretending to be a delivery driver who delivered to wrong address and will come and take the stuff away.

Someone did turn up and she told them she'd sent the stuff back and took their registration number.

Amazon stuff has to be paid for before delivery though so not sure if that'd be the same thing.

He's James Bond. Grin

Fireinthegrate · 18/09/2017 20:05

How odd!
Presumably you have checked his bank account to make sure he hasn't had his card scammed?

My friend had her card scammed and the idiot that got it ordered a Playstation 4 and numerous other items, but they were delivered to my firend!
