To think that someone is trying to recruit my partner as a spy

In the last 2 weeks, my boyfriend has received 4 parcels from Amazon that he didn't order. Addressed to him, at our house, but not showing on his order history. On calling Amazon, they are adamant that someone has sent them to him as a gift, and has paid for all four items using a gift card.

Parcel one... a strange wire.
Parcel two.. another strange wire.
Parcel three... a Bluetooth earpiece (do people still use these?!)
Parcel four which arrived today.. A baseball cap with a hidden spy camera! WTF!

We have NO idea who would send these. AIBU to think he is being recruited as a spy, with his mission brief to follow?! Grin Or is there a reasonable explanation for this?

My DP once had 9 books about the Crusades turn up over the space of 3 days. Fortunately he did not have stalker, but instead had made the mistake of mentioning to MIL in Australia that he was interested in learning more about that period. Our local Oxfam bookshop now has a bulging history section.

OP keep us updated

Loving this thread (also knows this isn't how spies are recruited but I can't tell you how I know or I'll have to kill you Wink)

"Next a prepaid mobile phone - which soon after opening receives the first message/command..."

Yes something along the lines of

"Your mission should you choose to accept it..." Grin

Ooh I like it, a conspiracy, it's you ordering them to freak him out, the post on here, which you have shown him is just to throw him off track!

That hat is a big shit though isn't it? Holes a bit obvious to be a spy hat!

SillyMoomin · 18/09/2017 20:10

Amazing. Will this thread self destruct after 30 seconds?! Grin

Redcrayons · 18/09/2017 20:12

Although if M15 are sourcing all secret spy stuff through Amazon, rather than the official ££££ tenders process, I'm quite impressed with their thriftiness.

not sure I'd be a good spy, they wouldn't have to torture me with thumbscrews for secrets. Half a bottle of Pinot should do the trick.

I think the idea that someone had up thread about not changing the address after sending BF a present is more likely. Did your BF get a present from someone via Amazon in the past. Might be worth contacting them if he did to check they don't still have his address on the address bit for delivery and forgot.

SfaOkaySuperFurryAnimals · 18/09/2017 20:18

Are you living with Aidan Turner?
Is this is call, is he getting the gear for when he becomes James Bond?😁😁

HerOtherHalf · 18/09/2017 20:18

I've had a set of earphones and an iPhone charger cable in the past couple of months, neither of which I've ordered. I'm rather excited to see what might arrive next. Do Amazon stock yachts by any chance?

RolfNotRudolf · 18/09/2017 20:19

Today 19:49 MsJudgemental DS has just received a letter from amazon with a film card in it with someone else's name on.....
Me too, my name and address on the envelope, someone else's name inside.

SfaOkaySuperFurryAnimals · 18/09/2017 20:19

His call* bloody phone...

RolfNotRudolf · 18/09/2017 20:21

Amazon must know who ordered the goods, even if they're unwilling to tell you.

GreatFuckability · 18/09/2017 20:21

A friend of mine recently ordered a floral headpiece for a wedding she was going to, and recieved a set of anal beads on a rope with a grip on the end instead.

It can always be worse Grin

loveastorm21 · 18/09/2017 20:22

This would drive me crazy not knowing...love the thread

EraArils · 18/09/2017 20:24

I once received a Kindle Fire tablet. I hadn't ordered it and I hadn't paid for it. It was addressed to me and on my Kindle account. I contacted them to return it but they weren't interested and told me to keep it. I gave it to my nephew who was more than happy to take it off my hands

EggysMom · 18/09/2017 20:26

If someone knocks on the door to collect the parcels, tell them you've returned them to Amazon ... and get the registration ... and take a mental photo of the person so you can describe them to the police ...
suspicious, moi? Grin

Ladybirdd · 18/09/2017 20:29

Well isn't this the best thread today?!

Andylion · 18/09/2017 20:31

Here's the hat which came today.

OP, did you post a pic with this? I can't see it.

DoubleDinghyRapids · 18/09/2017 20:39

I used to do reviews on Amazon and was sent a lot of free stuff, a lot of it was overpriced crap but I did get some brilliant stuff. I stopped doing it when I realised so many of the reviewers who were getting free items bullshitted and posted glowing reviews without even using said item. Sellers would promise more free stuff if you quickly left good reviews so people would lie and say something is brilliant just to get more tat and I didn't want to be associated with that, but even now I still get odd items. I got everything from phine cases and cables up to massive speakers, headphones, GoPro type camera, Fitness trackers, nature cams, bluetooth headsets and also security cameras..

Sellers would also often ask if I had any friends they could send items to. the items your dh has been sent do sound like items I'd often be sent so I was wondering if there is there any chance a friend will have forwarded his details to seller looking for reviews?

Like a pp said, amazon recently changed the rules so sellers are not allowed to send free items in request for reviews, they just contact people asking if they can send a "gift". Amazon also made a few other changes to stop fake reviews but it hasn't changed the amount of fake reviews sadly, and reviewers no longer add the "I got this item in exchange for a review" to their reviews so more people don't realise they are buying overpriced junk and that all the glowing reviews are biased..

SasBel · 18/09/2017 20:42

No pic, maybe MI5 blocked it....

Viviene · 18/09/2017 20:44

I can see the pic ;-)

Logans · 18/09/2017 20:50

Turned out it was a friend who had sent her an Amazon gift once and had her name and address listed on their Amazon account - they just forgot to click on their own address when next ordering from Amazon.

Yup.

Kevintheminion · 18/09/2017 21:00

The next parcel will be the obligatory Daniel Craig-esque speedos....please send photo by return....Grin

whatsleep · 18/09/2017 21:01

Can't wait to see what you get in the next parcel 👀🔍
