To wonder if no knickers with tights is a thing?

So we have had a house guest and somehow in general conversation the topic of tights came up. She said "well of course when I wear those tights with a white gusset thing I don't bother with knickers". "Sorry, what?", I replied with a bit of a Hmm on. "Oh yeah that's why they have the white bit!"she explained with a knowing look.

Really? How have I spent 37 years not knowing this? Does everyone know and do this?

I've done it, under tight smooth clothing but have always been aware of the unedifying image of flat damp pubes crushed up against the fabric.

God no. Makes your foof look like it's out to rob a bank.

That's a bad case of thrush waiting to happen

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/09/2017 11:07

Food robbing a bank!!! Cries!!

Might be less sweaty to not wear knickers since I wear the microfibre non vpl knickers anyway

Solo · 18/09/2017 11:08

fourquenelles I just properly laughed out loud Grin

Arealhumanbeing · 18/09/2017 11:09

Why are people's tights splitting and falling down?

Size up and get the good ones.

Mustang27 · 18/09/2017 11:14

I don't wear knickers at all, shoot me.

holdthewine · 18/09/2017 11:30

I know my DDs used to do this when they were late teens to avoid VPL when wearing spray on clothing. A friend of mine never wore knickers when we're young mums. I used to say to her "but don't you have to wash your jeans and leggings every day?" and she said yes, she did and was happy to do so! Hmm I love my big Bridget Joneses!

Allthebestnamesareused · 18/09/2017 11:36

Another under and over wearer!

I only ever did it for dance shows where your pants would show through the skin tight leotards. Would be so uncomfortable otherwise.

My mother always wears tights under her trousers (all year round) as she permanently feels cold.

Juanbablo · 18/09/2017 11:48

This is a revelation. Yesterday I put some tights on and dh asked why the gusset was white. I didn't know why. Now I know! But I will definitely still wear knickers!

EastDulwichWife · 18/09/2017 12:21

I wear tights 3x a week in winter. Always opaque, always with a cotton gusset and never bother to wear knickers. I see no point.

BeachyKeen · 18/09/2017 13:10

I was told this as a young teen in the early 90's by my auntie. I thought she was crazy, but then I tried it, no lines, so it's worked for me, (but then I don't wear them every day) .

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 18/09/2017 22:39

I've done this to avoid VPL, under v elegant dresses a couple of times (as taught by DM) and it's been fine, but I wouldn't make a habit of it! Thrush central, surely. Someone once pinched my bum whilst I was knickerless...

Gorygloria · 18/09/2017 22:41

Men seem to think this. I have done it but without the friction of a cotton underlayer the tights slide down to my hips and there really is nothing more irritating than droopy tights

Runningyogabooze · 18/09/2017 22:41

Grim! Of course you wear pants under tights.

Ugh to those of you who don't!

LadyWire · 18/09/2017 23:46

Another one here with two pairs. Normally boy shorts or depending on who'll see them french knickers over the top.

Penguins333 · 18/09/2017 23:48

No. Just no a thousand times.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 18/09/2017 23:53

I don't wear tights but don't get why it's grim. People on here can be so odd. It's not as it a) you're sharing them and/or b) you're not washing them after. Confused

LellyMcKelly · 18/09/2017 23:56

Pants over tights, like Superman.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/09/2017 23:56

I remember the tights with a cotton gusset being marketed as no need to wear knickers, it was a good few years ago and the first time I ever saw them, possibly 80's

I don't remember cotton gusset tights being marketed as anything other than being healthier than non cotton gussets- definitely not as an alternative to knickers.

CakeNinja · 19/09/2017 00:12

I wear knickers-tights-knickers too!
They all seem to slightly sag at the crotch otherwise.
I do spend a bit on them, and buy xl as I'm quite tall, but they just dont feel secure without the extra pair over the top.
Never noticed any overheating issues either.
And can't see how a night of just wearing them with no knickers at all would instantly give you thrush?! How?

RightOnTheEdge · 19/09/2017 00:14

fourquenelles you just made me do a proper Mutley laugh! Grin Grin
