Or rather the parents that chose it?

Overheard in the local shop a young girl (8ish) telling her friend that her new baby brother is being called....Kaiser. She wasnt joking.

In my school as well we had an andromeda! And a Phillip Phillips!!!!!!

FretYeNotAllIsShiny · 17/09/2017 23:02

I once saw a birth announcement in the local paper for twins called AAF and BAF. I really hope they were initials.

Ladywire, growing up I was convinced Ray Liotta's name was Really Otter.

JakeBallardswife · 17/09/2017 23:04

Shakira...it didn't impress me much Grin

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 17/09/2017 23:05

@TellysAndWellys

Could be short for Wolfgang, I know a big Wolf and a little one and they're both Wolfgangs.

moralminority · 17/09/2017 23:06

Years ago I found some old docs and there was a form for John Thomas Mycock Hmm

My DH once had a message at work asking him to ring "Brian Tomes", it was actually someone from Bryant Homes, we had been to view a new house!

PinguForPresident · 17/09/2017 23:07

I love the name Avril...but would you have to have your DD born in April for it to "work"?

Possibly, but it doesn't stop people. I've delivered an April, born in June, and have postnatally looked after a Winter, born in Summer, and several Summers, only one of whom was born in a summer month.

Dizzybintess · 17/09/2017 23:11

You do wonder what goes through parents heads when they name them after alcoholic beverages/designer products/car manufacturers

ILoveMillhousesDad · 17/09/2017 23:11

I judged the parents of 'savannah higginbotham' who arrived for her needles in one of them old fashioned fluffy bonnets and basically a bridesmaid dress. Poor kid.

Dustbunny1900 · 17/09/2017 23:15

I rather like "wolf" , considered Wolfgang for my son. But then the names that grate on me are more along the lines of Brayden kayden Jayden Aiden Hayden Addison Landynne Brendan and that lot. shrug

geoff409 · 17/09/2017 23:17

The literal translation of Kaiser is 'Emperor', in the German language. Bit of an odd choice though?!

Choccywoccyhooha · 17/09/2017 23:20

Well, no one on this thread has reported hearing of a child called Shitface or Cunty, so I don't see any harm in any of the names mentioned. Not your child, no harm being done, not your problem. Yabu OP.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/09/2017 23:21

Ha!
Chardonnay is a very valid name, I'll let you all know, despite your posts.

Grigio on the other hand, not so much.

Dustbunny1900 · 18/09/2017 00:04

Perhaps not shitface but the name "shithead" is a name I hear. Pronounced sh theed

Dustbunny1900 · 18/09/2017 00:13

Oh wait maybe that's just an urban legend 😂

lalalalyra · 18/09/2017 00:27

The only Avril I know was meant to be called April, but she wasn't born until May 3rd and her mum thought that wouldn't work so switched to Avril.

My friend's children were adamant that their new baby brother should be called Bob. So many people were told that he was called Bob that even cards and presents arrived with it on them Grin

I have wondered in the past how many kids I went to school with went home and weren't believed that they had a Starlight in their class.

SalamiSandwich · 18/09/2017 07:56

I know of a Summer-Rain, and a Rivah. Oh and a baby Bae.

Camomila · 18/09/2017 08:15

Our old German shepard was called Kaiser :)

SilverForest · 18/09/2017 08:17

I judge parents who give their children the standard names like Amelia/Emily/George/Thomas/Oliver. Especially if the surname is common or plain too.
Nothing is more boring.

Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2017 08:29

"I've heard of a Dottie-Mae. Can't see her becoming a judge"

Very few people become Judges, or want to. I know I wouldn't want to only be able to hand a four year sentence to the likes of baby P's 'step-dad'.

Bea is a Korean name, so unless you know the reason why they've picked it, you shouldn't judge. You can't tell family history by the colour of skin.

I don't like Jayden/Dayden etc but I'm not naming my children, so none of my business.

Anything overheard could be a NN. My youngest DD NN, at times was Pestilence, it was a play on her real NN.

However I did know a family who was going to have their baby removed at birth. They wanted to call the child Saluki, it was blocked. They bred Greyhounds. It was literally naming your child after your bog breed of choice.

Fekko · 18/09/2017 08:37

I met a little girl called Cushelle. I don't think it's a people name anywhere.

Anatidae · 18/09/2017 08:39

Kaijsa/ Kajsa is a Swedish name and not an uncommon one. We know two here.

Anatidae · 18/09/2017 08:40

I met a little girl called Cushelle. I don't think it's a people name anywhere.

It's a brand of loo roll.

newbian · 18/09/2017 08:40

Well, to give her the benefit of the doubt it's not that different to calling a child Prince or Queenie or Duke (not unknown in America)

Rubbish! Other than the musicians (Prince and Duke Ellington) who has ever met someone called Prince or Duke? Queenie - never!

And yes, someone on Teen Mom named her son Kaiser, that hardly makes it an "American" name, and said Teen Mom exhibits a great deal of poor judgement so please don't malign the entire country.

After all Katie Price has a daughter called Princess!

Fekko · 18/09/2017 08:41

That was my first thought then I though no, that's unkind, maybe it's Malaysian name (her parents are from may Malaysia). Definite her name and spelling though.

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 18/09/2017 08:50

These names are amazing, I'm adding Avril to my list.

I regularly refer to DD as "my little pestilence" in public, her name isn't remotely close to that thankfully

To be fair, if she could choose her own name it would probably be Rainbow Dash, as was mentioned by a previous poster.

All her little mates have unusual names. I rarely hear a repeated name, with the exception of Harry, of which there are too many IMHO.

I would choose Kaiser personally, but nor would I raise much of an eyebrow.
