AIBU to be fuming that DS has been sent home because of his hair???

DS had his haircut just before he started secondary school. In the uniform rules, it just saying no "extreme hairstyles" does not give any kind of description as to what those may be. Bugger me, he goes in with a perfect uniform, a nice smart haircut and is told it's a no!!! They have said that he is to be in isolation until it grows to an acceptable length Hmm they didn't say what would be classed as extreme!!!!!!!!

That (chav) hair cut is not allowed. It's at least the 2nd Friday of term, if not the third (in England, not Scotland). I have no sympathy for parents who don't adhere to rules.....they are usually the ones on the DM looking forlorn and cheated/hard done by. Funny how the other few hundred kids/parents managed.

PeaceAndLove1 · 15/09/2017 21:02

I had to assimilate and comply in many different work places That's the whole purpose of the education system.

Ragusa · 15/09/2017 21:08

Well there is quite a lot of disagreement about the purpose of the education system actually.

A 'chav' haircut?? Would you prefer the great unwashed to be educated separately or not at all so they don't have to sully your kids with their pernicious ways maddie ..?

winglesspegasus · 15/09/2017 21:13

flyingflipflop
my thoughts exactly
assimilation is not necessarily a good thing
you can just about guess the posters who were either brainwashed in the 60's or raised in the last 25 years.we first heard "the nanny state" in the 70's,i see all variations are going strong.
bf in high school had green and blue hair down to his waist..OMG he's a surgeon now.
ndn has #3 cut and is in prison.......

3EyedRaven · 15/09/2017 21:13

Rules are rules and learning that fact will be an invaluable lesson to your son in later life

Glad that women weren't relying on you for the vote 🙄

LegallyBronde · 15/09/2017 21:14

I wish my ds would entertain a shirt back and sides. I'm pretty sure that the of flicking his head to remove the hair from eyes on a semi constant basis is disrupting his education!

LegallyBronde · 15/09/2017 21:15

*short not shirt Blush

  1. I'm yet to see any evidence that there is any plus side to uniforms. Non-uniform secondary schools IN ENGLAND perform just as well as those that make kids wear a uniform.
  1. Changing your job because you don't like the rules set out by a company is quite clearly not the same as changing your kids school when a) schools are state institutions designed to offer our children their undeniable right to an education and b) 90% of all schools implement the same arbitrary rules, meaning choice is at best highly restricted, and usually non-existent.
SilverBirchTree · 15/09/2017 21:18

It's a tacky hairstyle. Just follow the guidelines.

DiegoMadonna · 15/09/2017 21:18

That's the whole purpose of the education system

I send my children to school for an education, not training for a corporate job.

winglesspegasus · 15/09/2017 21:20

diegomadonna i like you

Amee1992x · 15/09/2017 21:20

My son has jaw length wavey hair & wears it in a man bun to school. I can never imagine someone telling him off for his appearance. The deal is as long as he takes care of his hair & ties it up for school I don't mind.

Willow2017 · 15/09/2017 21:22

Maddie

'Chav haircut'? Wow aren't you a peach?
OP said it wasn't exactly the same as the one in the photo anyway. But how do you know what her sons school meant by extreme haircuts?
That is short and tidy how could they possibly think it wasn't?

Surely it's better than some multicoloured sticking up on end uncombed bird's nest?
I have seen teachers with worse hair cuts than that.

GallicosCats · 15/09/2017 21:23

My dd was taken aside last week and told her hair style wasn't allowed. It's natural highlights that have been bleached by the sun on holiday

That reminds me of the bit in Jane Eyre where Mr Brockenhurst picks out one of the girls for having curly hair, which is forbidden as it encourages vanity and sinfulness. Her hair, as Miss Temple points out, is naturallly curly.

BakedBeans47 · 15/09/2017 21:24

I am all for uniform but dictating hairstyle is just ridiculous. Kids are in school what, 25 hours a week, but they have how they want their hair to look the rest of the time dictated by this stupid rule?

why do they have these rules anyway? Perhaps to deflect from the fact the education they provide isn't that great?

Willow2017 · 15/09/2017 21:26

Sat our high school kids have all different hairstyles and shock horror even beards.

How utterly chavvy 😀
and still manage to win awards for a variety of scholarly and artistic achievements

What is the obsession schools have with hairstyles? What the fuck has having a number one got to do with your ability to participate in being an engaged student? Angry

ohtheholidays · 15/09/2017 21:34

I love some of the fade cuts I think they look very smart!

I hate the dictatorship that goes on with schools about how a childs/teens hair looks, they need to start realising that as they get older the more comfortable a child is within they're own skin the better they perform at school it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work that out it's just common bloody sense!

The fact that they say they're preparing the children for when they go out looking for jobs is laughable now,20/30 years ago maybe but now you can see people with facial piercings, hair(that schools would call extreme)in different colours and styles in all types of jobs so if lots of adults are getting well paid jobs despite whatever they're style is how the hell do they expect the children to take that reasoning seriously!?

PeaceAndLove1 · 15/09/2017 21:45

I send my children to school for an education, not training for a corporate job. Whether you want to face it or not that's what it is.

Really peaceandlove? Good state education is much more than that. I know loads of people who had a pretty standard education who aren't corporate slaves ...

dolcezza99 · 15/09/2017 21:54

That's a hideous haircut, sorry OP. Not surprised he was sent home. Send him in with a proper haircut next time.
