Last time I bought an item of clothing in there was 2005.I go in there regularly just to have a laugh at their clothes now! EVERYTHING is covered in lace, sequins, buttons, applique or some such shitty garnish.Nothing whatsoever one would want to buy.Cheap crap you could buy in primark for a quarter of the price, flimsy fabrics.Who the hell are their fashion buyers? Are they blind?Even my mother and grandmother think their clothes are frumpy and do not shop there anymore. How much longer do they think they can get away with the garbage they stock? The shops look like ghost towns, staff are unmotivated. They have no idea who they are targeting.Sainsburys Tu,or Tesco F&F have better clothing than they do.They understand their target buyers may not have rake thin toned upper arms, may have big tummys and crepey chests and have clothes to suit. FFS M&S!!!!Get your act together or you will go the same way as BHS,Woolies etc....And you know what?We wouldnt even care!!!

Their shoes and boots are sturdy for everyday wear (not formal). Defitely lasting me ages always. Plus very comfy on my feet
Agree about some bits of the clothes and this frilly horror thingy but then these sleeves are every where. Confused must be some designer on crack stuffed up to the top of their S kull to come up with these sleeves. They restrict my breathing somewhat and they are in every fucking everyday store.

Peregrina · 14/09/2017 23:12

I didn't know they had got rid of Indigo - I used to like that.

Italiangreyhound · 14/09/2017 23:13

I love M and S food and their clothes. Outstanding.

Has this been posted before?

MuddlingThroughLife · 14/09/2017 23:14

I buy all my jeans there and I'm only 42! They fit well and the short length is perfect for me at 5' 1". Anywhere else I go jeans and trousers are always far too long. The Next petite trousers are about 6 inches too long! 🎗

Babyroobs · 14/09/2017 23:14

The Beetroot and feta wraps are lovely.

Nettletheelf · 14/09/2017 23:16

That navy dress Eustacia mentioned is a pastiche of the Dior S/S collection, which had constellations and zodiac signs on it.

Roksanda Ilincic was responsible for the barmy flared sleeves but everybody has been producing those, not just M&S!

Teddy1970 · 14/09/2017 23:16

I'm not keen on their clothes, but I LOVE their home Christmas range of candles and room fragrances, I think it's Mandarin & Clove, Frankincense & Myrhh, and Winter Frost, I'm getting excited thinking about it! I also get giddy when I see their Christmas food to order brochure out..

Chestervase1 · 14/09/2017 23:20

I think M & S must be paying some people to post positive comments

Travelledtheworld · 14/09/2017 23:20

I went yesterday to but a couple of new bras
They had hardly anything in my size and I am a modest 36B.

I bought one, and the retreated to Debenhams lingerie dept.

loveka · 14/09/2017 23:23

I have bought 3 lovely dresses and 3 gorgeous skirts there in tbe last 6 montbs all of which get compliments and look much more expensive than they were.

All are fairly plain though, no garish fluff. You have to look tbrough all the rubbish but there are real gems.

Valentine2 · 14/09/2017 23:23

Nettle
You gave the name Roksanda. I searched her and now you are responsible for the ads appearing on my phone. Urrrghhh

On the plus side, this redeems M&S slightly, considering the sleeves are bit less frilly and you pay ten times less money for those. Grin

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/09/2017 23:24

I love the food... the M&S garage near me was the cause of much excitement Grin

They also do a lovely matching fascinator and handbag in wedding season I'll have you know Wink

pennysnow · 14/09/2017 23:27

YANBU. M & S is overpriced and over-rated, and is only suitable now for babyboomers with more money than sense. I have not shopped in there since the 1990's, except a couple of bras and some underpants, and a couple of boxes of shortcake at Christmas. Spent maybe thirty quid in total. In 20 years.

Their food used to be better than most, but now Aldi and Lidl and Morrisons and Sainsbury's are just as good, if not better than them, and Aldi and Lidl are much cheaper.

How they are still going is beyond me. They should have closed down a decade ago.

Nettletheelf · 14/09/2017 23:29

I wish I were being paid to say nice things by M&S, Chestervase.

Sorry for not joining in with giving M&S a kicking! People must like their stuff, mustn't they, or they wouldn't be in business.

ps sorry Valenine for poisoning your ads with heinous and costly frocks.

Valentine2 · 14/09/2017 23:29

There you go. All that we needed was not one, TWO frilly thingies!

Nettletheelf · 14/09/2017 23:34

I suspect the design team for that red top thought, "how can we convey a sense of casual flamenco for £22.50?".

See, I don't like everything they do! I took agin the fizzy coffee drink they had in the dine in for £10, too.

SequinsOnEverything · 14/09/2017 23:34

Their shoes are great, I get my work heels there and they never hurt my feet.

I do see clothes I like there, but always for more than I want to pay.

I'm not a fan of percy pigs, but I do love their cherry flavoured veggie Colin caterpillars.

Armi · 14/09/2017 23:34

I like M&S. Being fat, I am always delighted with shops that make clothes in larger sizes and will sell me arse-expanding foodstuffs at the same time.

('White Stuff', if you're reading this, it wouldn't kill you to nudge up to a size 20, would it?!)

Valentine2 · 14/09/2017 23:39

I a man sure there was a third drill in there. But somebody, somewhere out their foot down and they ended up cutting it off at the "node" so they could propagate the
< Thinks there is some sort of connection between Dracula and Roksanda sleeves >

Valentine2 · 14/09/2017 23:39

Sorry for the horrid typos. My phone! and me

JaceLancs · 14/09/2017 23:41

M & S bras are usually a good fit for me (38DD or E) depending on style and I always buy my knickers there
Jeggings, work trousers and cashmere plus thick leggings are a must I also buy gym stuff if in sale
They have surprisingly nice dresses on occasion which DD age 26 can even get away with but you do have to pick through the dross
I can't afford their food - only buy from home in sale or if a good offer
Footwear no use for me as don't think they realise people have narrow feet!
I still don't want to see them go
Think a lot of people don't realise that their stock is targeted at local demographic - if you find frumpy stuff in your local M & S it's because they (sometimes erroneously) think that's what the local demographic want - try visiting their Eastbourne store and compare it to their Manchester store for example

Nettletheelf · 14/09/2017 23:43

Now I was thinking that the sleeves were inspired by 'Audrey', the flesh eating plant from Little Shop of Horrors. Her ravening mouth looks like the sleeve opening. Here is the best pic I could find by swift googling:

RubyBluesey · 14/09/2017 23:44

Some of the clothes used to be ok if you knew which label to look at, but I went in there today and everything was truly awful. The food however is very good I think

opinionatedfreak · 14/09/2017 23:46

I used to buy masses of clothes there. Since about 2003 I've hardly bought anything it is all awful and their tops are always too short.

Gap/Boden with a bit of seasalt/ white stuff/ fat face has mostly plugged the gap for me.

For smart stuff I go to Hobbs/ Phase Eight. Used to like jigsaw but it got a bit edgy...

fullofhope03 · 14/09/2017 23:47

That's the thing loveja there's too much rubbish to sift through to find the gems. They really need to sort out the way they merchandise the fashion. I have a real affection for M&S (or had), and I SO want it to continue to grow and fail. But there is too much competition now and fail they will unless they ensure that they sort themselves out. Only the other day I overheard a random guy talking about the fact that M&S are letting themselves down on the fashion front and layout of the store. I still haven't got over the demise of BHS (bloody Philip Green) Angry
