Last time I bought an item of clothing in there was 2005.I go in there regularly just to have a laugh at their clothes now! EVERYTHING is covered in lace, sequins, buttons, applique or some such shitty garnish.Nothing whatsoever one would want to buy.Cheap crap you could buy in primark for a quarter of the price, flimsy fabrics.Who the hell are their fashion buyers? Are they blind?Even my mother and grandmother think their clothes are frumpy and do not shop there anymore. How much longer do they think they can get away with the garbage they stock? The shops look like ghost towns, staff are unmotivated. They have no idea who they are targeting.Sainsburys Tu,or Tesco F&F have better clothing than they do.They understand their target buyers may not have rake thin toned upper arms, may have big tummys and crepey chests and have clothes to suit. FFS M&S!!!!Get your act together or you will go the same way as BHS,Woolies etc....And you know what?We wouldnt even care!!!

I had a client who got a job at a food factory. Items made went to several different supermarkets one of these was m&s. They would be charging twice as much as the other supermarkets I’m sure!

Rebeccaslicker · 08/11/2017 15:03

I love m&s for underwear and nightwear. I have some work stuff from there too. I wouldn't buy going out clothes or shoes as not my taste but I like some of their home wares and the food is fab.

Don't leave us m&s!!

demirose87 · 08/11/2017 15:09

I buy their school trousers and polo tops. Some of their baby clothes are nice that I've had as gifts but wouldn't buy them from there myself as think they are over priced. I always look at their bras but never find anything I like. I think the clothes are really old fashioned and over priced and Next is the same.

megletthesecond · 08/11/2017 15:16

If they could bring back the goats cheese in caramelised onion dressing I'll be happy.

gabsdot · 08/11/2017 15:53

I like M&S and buy a lot of the my clothes there. I'm 47 and like to think reasonably stylish.
I particularly like the jeans. They fit really well.
The food is yummy

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 08/11/2017 16:07

I haven’t rtft but I live in an area where a food M and S replaced an Iceland and I was so happy! I bloody love the place! I think their food is delicious. My mil only food shops there - one of the only reasons I’m prepared to visit them.
I quite like their socks too. I also recently bought two polo neck jumpers too. I like them Grin

ladybertram · 08/11/2017 16:09

I like a lot of their food; also buy from their beauty ranges including Formula skincare and the Rosie Autograph stuff. Recently I bought a new winter coat, trousers, jumper and brogues. Oh...and gloves too. No hope for me really!
Not all branches are equal, and some have better choices than others I think.
Of course there's lots of awful stuff, but then I see awful stuff in every store. Quality has suffered over the years and some of the design choices are bonkers...but oh, I would hate to see M&S go!

Chrys2017 · 08/11/2017 16:14

They're quite good for casual clothes for fat ladies. I get all mine there.

Pennypickle · 09/11/2017 20:33

Can't beat M&S teabags, coleslaw or beetroot

Ttbb · 09/11/2017 20:36

The fresh food is miles better than Waitrose.

Hatemyjob2 · 09/11/2017 20:48

Only place that does affordable post-surgery bras and they’re pretty. I like the Indigo range and the high waisted jeans and jeggings.
Love the beauty section and would love the advent calendar but £70 (£35 + 35) is too much in the run up to Xmas.

Mammylamb · 09/11/2017 21:45

I was wondering the exact same thing at the weekend (I wonder through it as a short cut on the way home)

Petalflowers · 09/11/2017 21:53

I don't mind admitting, I love M and S and buy quite a few things from there. Their jeans are superb.

If you look in all clothes shops, there will be nice and nasty clothes.

Ethylred · 09/11/2017 22:02

M&S opened in Finland, including their underwear range Per Una.

Peruna in Finnish = potato.

rosenylund · 09/11/2017 22:58

They do the best tights, I'll keep them in business.

FML.Blush

AnneElliott · 09/11/2017 23:18

I love M&S but then I'm biased as I used to work there - and so did most of my family!

Love the food, kids clothes, undies and jeans. Other stuff can be a bit hit and miss but generally I find stuff in there I like.

NotMeNoNo · 09/11/2017 23:19

Only per una Roma jeans fit me properly on the waist. It's getting tougher every season to find a dark unembellished pair in normal cotton fabric.

paxillin · 09/11/2017 23:54

It's me. I buy my pants, socks, tights and pyjamas there. And the sour worms and chewy pig thingies.

londonmummy1966 · 10/11/2017 17:49

The 3 lots of meat for £10 feeds my family for most of the week. Only thing I go in for these days.
I used to love their bras but now they've economised with rubbish hooks and eyes that don't last so I go to John Lewis and buy Freya in the sale - they use decent hooks and eyes that keep their shape.

I used to love the Autograph velvet opaque tights as they never ladder. However they've economised on the manufacture and the waistbands are now sewn on rather than woven as part of the tights and they pull off if you tug them up to hard when you are in a hurry....

BootHill · 10/11/2017 17:51

I do love a bit of M&S food when we can afford it.

DryHeave · 10/11/2017 17:52

I use them for good quality, wider fit shoes. Only place that has a nice selection, always has my size and generally come in under £40 a pair.

BusyBeez99 · 10/11/2017 17:53

I get underwear and jeans from there and I’m mid-40s

LakieLady · 10/11/2017 18:24

I'm 62 and find most of their stuff either frumpy or hideously over-embellished. I've lost count of the times I've spotted what looks like a nice dress or top only to discover an extraneous frill, pointless lump of lace or applique butterfly ruining it.

M&S used to be where you went for well made classics - lovely, plain lambswool sweaters in a good range of colours, great shirt-style blouses for work, good t-shirts, classic skirts etc. I've only bought 2 items of outerwear there in 2 years: a white linen jacket to wear over a dress to a wedding and a pair of wide-legged grey woollen trousers.

Their shoes are too wide for me, their bras never fit, their nightwear is mostly synthetic or has cartoons, embroidery or silly slogans on, they've stopped doing the 3/4 length sleeve t-shirts I love and their knickers are more expensive than Debenhams and no better than Sainsburys.

Still love their food though, and they still do good coats. But I only buy a new coat every 10 years or so!

Parker231 · 10/11/2017 18:41

I live near one of the big flagship stores. I use to buy food there but the range has now got boring and uninteresting. I use the clothes department as a quick cut through to other stores and use the time having a laugh at their latest disasters. I can’t remember the last time I bought clothes from there. I wouldn’t miss it if it closed - they don’t deserve success with their current offerings.

Parker231 · 10/11/2017 18:43

Gap are much better for jeans than M&S.
