Last time I bought an item of clothing in there was 2005.I go in there regularly just to have a laugh at their clothes now! EVERYTHING is covered in lace, sequins, buttons, applique or some such shitty garnish.Nothing whatsoever one would want to buy.Cheap crap you could buy in primark for a quarter of the price, flimsy fabrics.Who the hell are their fashion buyers? Are they blind?Even my mother and grandmother think their clothes are frumpy and do not shop there anymore. How much longer do they think they can get away with the garbage they stock? The shops look like ghost towns, staff are unmotivated. They have no idea who they are targeting.Sainsburys Tu,or Tesco F&F have better clothing than they do.They understand their target buyers may not have rake thin toned upper arms, may have big tummys and crepey chests and have clothes to suit. FFS M&S!!!!Get your act together or you will go the same way as BHS,Woolies etc....And you know what?We wouldnt even care!!!

food, school uniform, underwear and surprisingly their skinny jeans are really good never thought i would ever buy clothing from there until I was at least 80.

Mumof41987 · 14/09/2017 21:43

I love m&s food but have NEVER bought any clothes from them ! I did buy maternity bras and some sexy lengerie . They do have a very nice under wear dept

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 14/09/2017 21:43

I agree M&S have lost it, the quality of clothing is shite, sizing is inconsistent and whilst the food is ok, other retailers are offering better value for money. What's happened?

CompletelyUnknown · 14/09/2017 21:43

Yeah the clothes for women are rubbish but the underwear is good and I like them for kids clothes.

There are much worse shops to hold a grudge against.

TeaAddict235 · 14/09/2017 21:43

Do they still do clothes for the under 60's? No offence, but I always assumed it was really for the mature shopper. I know that they sell men's clothes too, but too often the top executives are men for a market that is targeted at women, so that probably explains half of the problem.

caoraich · 14/09/2017 21:44

I swear the food is what's keeping them alive. I do go to the M&S food halls but generally only walk through the clothes shop from the car park to the rest of the local shopping centre. It's usually empty.

Their boring work shoes are reasonably priced, often on BOGOF, not too high and comfortable though, so I suppose I spend £30 there every couple of years. Mum- in her late 50s- is the same.

My grandma has switched here allegiance there since BHS closed down, though. Maybe that market has been a bit of a lifeline for them?

Mumof41987 · 14/09/2017 21:44

Ah yes uniforms and the children's clothes are brilliant . Can't fault the school coats , uniforms and underwear

kali110 · 14/09/2017 21:44

Im in my mid 30's and frm 17 to late 20's i loved their clothes.
Loved limited collection but no more.
It's lost it's spark.
Dont even bother with their bras anymore as they never fit!

LuxuryWoman2017 · 14/09/2017 21:45

Mine closed down recently. I don't think the food is amazing, the clothes are awful. the underwear scratchy and the homewares are overpriced.

It's a crying shame, they are trading on past glory and simply will not listen to their customers.

Time was when it was the go to place for a plain black jumper, decent work suit or quality pair of shoes.
Before that, it was considered quite posh even. Those days are gone due to such hot competition.

I don't think they'll be around much longer and that makes me sad but they just haven't kept up with the changing times.

peachgreen · 14/09/2017 21:45

I've got some lovely bits from M&S. Not everything is nice, but if you properly look there are some gems. And the food is great. Their salads are delicious. YABU.

Chestervase1 · 14/09/2017 21:45

The pink horror has now become available in other colours. They really don't listen do they. What has happened to Autograph. It clothes wouldn't look out of place in 1970s communist Russia.

The80sweregreat · 14/09/2017 21:46

Saucy, womens clothes at the moment depress me too.
All those frills and weird sleeves! I despair.
( i like plain non fussy stuff)
I hate clothes shopping.

thegirlupnorth · 14/09/2017 21:47

I think I'm ten years time m and s will be "simply food"!!

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 14/09/2017 21:47

I like their shoes and bought a pair of boots today. Also bought slippers for the kids, vests and shower gel. Their beauty dept is brilliant. Their womenswear can be a bit hit ad miss (too much polyester and too much detail) but there are some nice clothes, particularly in autograph. I also like their food and homewear. It doesn't get it right all the time, but most shops have their share of frocky horrors so I don't get the hate tbh.

Shenanagins · 14/09/2017 21:47

I dunno. I go in on a regular basis (bad pig habit) and there is usually something I like. Recently it was just a plain roll top black jumper, few weeks ago it was a scarlet dress which everyone has commented on.

There is dross but there is dross in every shop but there's usually some gems.

GoingTo · 14/09/2017 21:48

I think they have bad phases from time to time, which can be awful. But at the moment I LOVE their stuff, and I thought their stuff was good in the Summer. Have bought some beautiful things there in the last year. But you do have to pick through some of the dross, and also be careful with the material (some of it is on the cheap side). But overall I find their stuff much more creative these days than Gap, Next, etc. And the way its all set out is a pleasure to shop Smile.

onelittleclara · 14/09/2017 21:48

I think the grey pound keeps it alive. There aren't many alternatives on the Mid range high street now that BHS and Littlewoods have gone. I think the clothes are for the over 60's, the food for the middle generations and children are covered too. Their high fashion ranges, as said in a previous thread are actually spot on, but generally high fashion is not what the majority want. I went to M&S today with 20% off and all I bought was face cream and socks for DD. Their beauty ranges are very good with plenty of brands.

Autumnskiesarelovely · 14/09/2017 21:48

Yes kids uniforms - brilliant. Underwear and socks - TICK. Food - TICK.
Clothes... wtf?!

Roystonv · 14/09/2017 21:49

Awful new advert with woman striding over rocks with long brown skirt and patterned fabric? ankle boots - vile

silkybear · 14/09/2017 21:49

would love to know how many of the pink ones have been sold, can't be many surely?

YoullNeverWeeAlone · 14/09/2017 21:49

I like some of their clothes. Wore a skirt from there today, got 3 compliments on it. Day before a pair of m&s shoes which 2 people asked where they were from.

You have to choose carefully but there is loads of good stuff in m&s and quite a lot of shit too

Onetedisbackinbed · 14/09/2017 21:49

That dress is a fright!Shock
I like their school uniform though and especially the school shoes, fantastic quality, really hard wearing and good value

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/09/2017 21:50

I've been wearing some lovely straight jeans from marks in two colours all summer!

and I like the food.

forceslover · 14/09/2017 21:50

I buy their jeggings as they come in a short length, knickers and bras. On occasion I buy shoes and some school uniform. I also buy fish and cheeses.

littlemisssweetness · 14/09/2017 21:50

I like their baby/toddler clothes and got a few nice work pieces from them as well. Not overly fussed on their food tho
