To ask how much you pay for electricity every month?

I feel like our bill just goes up and up.

We are paying £110 a month for a small three bed semi with EDF. Does this sound like a lot?

We use the tumble dryer a lot, although trying to cut down, and use a small heater in our lounge and bedroom during the winter evenings because we have night storage heating and it's rubbish (we don't even bother switching it on anymore).

I recall paying £70 a couple of years ago. It feels like since DD has come along, we are spending a lot more.

£257 for gas /electric combined. .

Note3 · 12/09/2017 20:26

Ours is a small 3 bed semi and has gas heating and oven. Our monthly direct debit is £63, of this approx £30 is electric

Note3 · 12/09/2017 20:27

Oh and I don't have a tumble dryer and we try not to turn heating in until late Oct (south east so warmer for longer helps)

orenisthenewblack · 12/09/2017 20:27

I'm glad to see that Nomore, we're paying £245 combined and thought it was atrocious. I'm planning on saving for a combi boiler, hopefully that will help.

Saladd0dger · 12/09/2017 20:28

£30-£40 a month on key meter with edf. Huge 2 bed house with central heating though. Tumble dryer used often to. I think the gas key averages out at £10 per week to

thatstoast · 12/09/2017 20:28

£77p/m with eon for gas and electric. However, in my previous house we paid more for just electric with night storage heaters. They are a pain.

If you join Martin Lewis's energy club then they will do a comparison and alert you if you can get it cheaper. There's usually cash back too.

specialsubject · 12/09/2017 20:29

What tariff are you on? If you are on a dual rate for the night storage you will be paying a fortune on the day rate.

It would make more sense to get an economy 7 or 10 tariff and use the heaters.

MrTrebus · 12/09/2017 20:29

Wtf how are two of you spending nearly £300 per month?!?! Do you have mansions?? We pay £56 per month for gas and electric combined for our large 2 bed flat and our new 4 bed house will be around £110 per month combined.

DoubleNegativePanda · 12/09/2017 20:29

$120 US, which I think is somewhere around 85 pounds. I use the tumble dryer a lot which is ridiculous because the average daily heat is 90F this time of year but there you have it. The central air conditioning runs nearly 24 hours a day.

MrTrebus · 12/09/2017 20:30

Oh just saw you don't have a combi boiler. Didn't think that would make that much difference though.

dementedpixie · 12/09/2017 20:31

Its not even to do with the monthly payment, it's more about your usage and the tariff. I think we pay £117 /month combined gas/electric

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 12/09/2017 20:32

My
Lord we pay about 90 for a family of 4 with British gas , and we have a sahp. Change people that's way too much

dementedpixie · 12/09/2017 20:32

Are you all electric?

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 12/09/2017 20:33

£70 for gas and electric, 3 bedroomed semi detached. House is brand new though so built to be efficient. Hardly use tumble drier though, and don't really put the heating on. This house is an oven already!

Nomoresunshine · 12/09/2017 20:33

3 storey old house with original draughty sash windows!!
And a tumble dryer.

mygorgeousmilo · 12/09/2017 20:33

£80 gas and electric for 5 bed house. We are not stingy on gas heating when we want it on, tumble dry only in winter though. Cook from scratch a lot so I guess use a lot of appliances in the kitchen. Every single time our contract is about to end, I change tariffs or get them to reduce it down. I can't believe pp above paying so much - it's extortionate! Switch ASAP

umbongokid · 12/09/2017 20:34

Mines actually gone down this year! That reminds me I need to renew my fixed rate tariff....
Anyway I pay £90 both gas and electric, 2 bed old terrace. Heating always on!

BananaShit · 12/09/2017 20:34

About £85 per month for gas and electric combined, roughly equal. Also a 3 bed semi.

MissWimpyDimple · 12/09/2017 20:35

I'm £54 for both. That's in a large 2 bed flat with single glazed drafty windows.

Gas heating and hob

LoniceraJaponica · 12/09/2017 20:35

I have just looked at the summary for June 2016 to May 2017 and we paid £38.76 a month for a 4 bed detached. I have a gas cooker though, and we have solar panels.

MatildaTheCat · 12/09/2017 20:36

£137 a month gas and electricity. I change the tariff every year. Big 5 bed semi and I am at home in the day. And use tumble dryer.

Check using a comparison site.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 12/09/2017 20:36

Right now I think we are spending way over haha

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 20:36

Ours is £60 for both, 3 bedroom semi, but we have insulated a lot, have a combi boiler, gas central heating and a wood burner. A lot,of it is how your house is set up.

turquoise88 · 12/09/2017 20:36

*What tariff are you on? If you are on a dual rate for the night storage you will be paying a fortune on the day rate.

Blue+ Price Promise June 2018 I believe?

I really don't understand too much about tariffs. I know that it said it was the cheapest option for us at the time we took it out.

We don't actually switch our night storage heaters on anymore because I know how expensive they are for the amount of heat they give out hardly any.

120 for both but 300 yr old house and about an e or f rating- 250/300 Is ridiculous!
