To ask how much you pay for electricity every month?

I feel like our bill just goes up and up.

We are paying £110 a month for a small three bed semi with EDF. Does this sound like a lot?

We use the tumble dryer a lot, although trying to cut down, and use a small heater in our lounge and bedroom during the winter evenings because we have night storage heating and it's rubbish (we don't even bother switching it on anymore).

I recall paying £70 a couple of years ago. It feels like since DD has come along, we are spending a lot more.

Usually about £30
We’ve changed suppliers so had better check it’s not more

whattheactualbleep · 08/03/2018 19:29

3 bed end decent size house.
Five people in it.
Gas central heating and hot water about £40 per month.
Tumble dryer on about four times week and washing machine four to seven washes a week and our electric d debut with Edf is currently £100 per month butvthey wanted me to pay £150 Shock
I'm convinced my electric has gone up loads since the smart meter was fitted and I'm not the only person that says that.

Amanduh · 08/03/2018 19:35

We pay £40 a month on average (spreas across on debit) in a 3 bed semi for both gas and electric. New build so well insulated. No tumble dryer or heaters

DownstairsMixUp · 08/03/2018 19:39

All electric here it's 76 a month

Spanglybangles · 08/03/2018 19:54

Averages about £150 monthly for gas and electric combined for a 5 bed detached with combi/condensing boiler, double glazing (prob pretty old now), astounded at how low some people’s bills are.

I’m at home all day but thermo at 16 during day and 20 in evenings, then on frost setting overnight. No tumble drier and keep radiators in little used rooms and conservatory turned right down. House never feels very warm yet winter gas bills are mental. This quarter just finished we are £685 for dual fuel bill Confused

Anatidae · 08/03/2018 20:15

About 110 quid equivalent.
For a 160sqm house
In a climate where it gets down to -30 in winter.

It’s much less in summer as we don’t need heating.

Anatidae · 08/03/2018 20:15

Sorry 110 equivalent is for the quarter , not the month!!

OliviaPopeRules · 08/03/2018 20:43

We pay 100 per month for gas and electricity in a large open plan 4 bed detached so yours seems very high. We aren't careful about using heating etc but don't have a tumble drier which may help. Sorry if I am repeating as I haven't read the replies but have you joined the Martin Lewis energy club to get the cheapest rate. I keep an eye and move every 1-2 years and I think you can save a lot.

OliviaPopeRules · 08/03/2018 20:46

We used first utility about 5 years ago and customer service was awful so I would never use again even if the were the cheapest. We have been with Avro energy for the last 6 months and they seem really good, monthly bills and if you are organised enough you can put in meter readings every month.

HighwayDragon1 · 08/03/2018 21:03

This month it was £95 combined gas and electric, it's usually closer to 70, but I've had the heating on constantly! 2 bed terrace house with British Gas

butterfly56 · 08/03/2018 21:58

I pay £34 per month for both gas and electric for a 1 bed ground floor apartment. Built to a very good insulation standard back in the 90's!
I am at home all the time and heating is on from September to May.

llangennith · 08/03/2018 22:02

Tumble driers use a lot of electricity!

SimonBridges · 08/03/2018 22:10

I pay £78 combined in a 3 bed semi.

MIL died last year and we are currently paying her electric bill (which obviously isn’t really being used now) and our own. It was something like £200 for both houses for the quarter. Our house is a 2 bed, MIL’s is a 5 bed but not at all lived in.

juddyrockingcloggs · 08/03/2018 22:20

3 bed semi and our monthly DD for electricity is £54. That's M&S (SSE).

SnowShow1 · 08/03/2018 22:29

4 bed detached.£90 pm Dual fuel.

I use my tumble dryer rarely and switch lights off when not in that room etc. However my car is electric and I charge it everyday overnight.

Idobelieveinfairies2018 · 08/03/2018 22:52

Currently £70 a month in a 2 bed flat with no tumble dryer but was closer to £85 before the tumble dryer broke.

$$ZOMBIE THREAD!!!!!

happyhillock · 31/01/2019 22:48

I pay roughly £110 a month for gas/electricity in winter month's, i use my dryer a lot, gas heating and cooking. Summer month's can be £65-£70 a month.

Streamside · 31/01/2019 23:18

£96 per month at present, heating is oil so it costs approx £130 per month. 5 bedroomed house with a new extension which is quite efficient, older part of the house is not as energy efficient as it could be. I've a freezing cold conservatory which freezes and he kitchen part of the house.

cariadlet · 31/01/2019 23:33

£46 per month for combined electricity and gas.

We were paying a lot more, but switched a few months ago. That's for a big old 3 bedroomed semi. No tumble dryer, no dishwasher, don't bother with the heating unless it's freezing but we do have a lot of gadgets.
