To think cats are middle class?

It may just be the people I know, but it seems like cats are a middle class thing with working and upper classes only keeping them on occasion, whereas dogs seem to straddle all categories.

Do you think I'm right? If so why is this?

Cat's aren't middle class. They are royalty, and they know it.

Oh you mean the people who choose to be slaves to cats. Yes you are right.

Wishfulmakeupping · 12/09/2017 11:02

Not round here!

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 12/09/2017 11:30

Dogs may straddle all categories but dog BREEDS don't.

splendidisolation · 12/09/2017 11:31

Are whippets posh or working class? Or are they one of those weird breeds that belongs to both but leapfrogs over the middle classes?

There's loads of cat owners on my estate, middle class it ain't!

corythatwas · 12/09/2017 11:35

no, cats are everywhere

MorrisZapp · 12/09/2017 11:37

Cats really are middle class.

Subtlecheese · 12/09/2017 11:38

I don't think middle class = pets around here.

MyYoniFromHull · 12/09/2017 11:38

Cats themselves are definitely MC or upper middle.

They have staff. They are very choosy about food. They don't care who they offend. And hold humans in disdain.

flippinada · 12/09/2017 11:40

I know what you mean OP. My will cats only shop at Waitrose.

TheNaze73 · 12/09/2017 11:41

Cats shit in other people's gardens & piss off when they find someone better.

They are very middle class

splendidisolation · 12/09/2017 11:45

Yes TheNaze, the ultimate gentrifiers!

Depends on the cat.
Pedigree Persian? YANBU.
Tortishell moggy? YABU.

Gormless · 12/09/2017 12:01

Maybe it's less obvious who cat owners are as you don't often see them out and about with their pets (in contrast to dog owners). But in my experience all sorts of people keep all sorts of pets. And yes: cats themselves are Actual Royalty.

Gottalovesummer · 12/09/2017 12:06

Our cat won't eat lidl own brand cat food. As lidl is where all the middle classes now shop, I'm confused as to where this leaves her? A reactionary working class perhapsGrin

MsHooliesCardigan · 12/09/2017 12:09

One of my cats spends most of the day lying on the sofa being waited on. I can't work out if he's a member of the underclass or Landed Gentry.

No way are cats middle class, they think the Queen is inferior to them. Although they may live in reduced circumstances, they never let you forget their superiority to human beings Smile

rosie1959 · 12/09/2017 12:10

Dogs have owners
Cats have staff Definitely upper class

TheClaws · 12/09/2017 12:24

My cat thinks she's the Pharaoh, even though she doesn't get to go outside or fed every hour, on the hour.

Piratesandpants · 12/09/2017 12:26

I agree. Cats are middle class, shop in Waitrose and wear Boden. Drive a Volvo.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/09/2017 12:27

Apparently I'm middle class (nurse) and I have two pedigree (rescue) Persians. I might be middle class, but they certainly aren't! They are royalty and as a PP has said, they know it. I live merely to serve them! Love them to bits though!

Runningpear · 12/09/2017 12:42

My cat has just snorted in derision at you for even suggesting he may be only middle class.

HazelBite · 12/09/2017 12:46

We have two cats, the female is by far superior to any other being. We are here to attend to her every whim.
If any of us are in the house she refuses to use the cat flap and waits by the front door (note not the back door) for her devoted servants to open it for her.
She will only eat Encore cat food @ 1 pound a portion.
Despite of being of indeterminate parentage she is above royalty, middle class? nah definately upper.

Clandestino · 12/09/2017 12:47

Cats aren't middle class. Not even gentry. They are gods. At least that's what those two gangsters ruling my household think themselves. A cat that's growling and hissing and me while I'm trying to pull my top from underneath her fat butt in the most careful way possible or attempting to move my leg a bit as it's been in the same painful position for the last 30 minutes so she could have her beauty sleep isn't middle class. She is well aware of her privileges and rights.
