To think cats are middle class?

It may just be the people I know, but it seems like cats are a middle class thing with working and upper classes only keeping them on occasion, whereas dogs seem to straddle all categories.

Do you think I'm right? If so why is this?

Mine isn't.

He's violent, unfaithful, would kill for Dreamies and licks his own arse. Common as muck.

coffeekittens · 12/09/2017 14:37

Are you trying to say only middle class people keep cats op? Should try coming to the coucil estates round here they're full of them.

If you're talking about cats belonging to a social class I have 2, brother and sister, my female thinks she's royalty and a right snob and my male is the lowest of the low but a loveable rogue, if you hadn't seen how he's treated inside the house you'd see him and think he's a stray.

BoysofMelody · 12/09/2017 14:37

Pedigree Persian? YANBU
Tortishell moggy? YABU

I disagree, most middle class people I know wouldn't consider a mongrel dog (unless you count things like cockatoos as mongrels) but most of them who own cats have a nondescript moggie, usually from a rescue place.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/09/2017 14:41

Lol at pps saying cats are royalty.

Deities, they're deities.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/09/2017 14:41

I must be really posh. All the cats I have been a slave to have been ex feral kittens/moggies. Not a scrap of pedigree amongst them, with the possible exception of the fathers being escaped breeding toms fancying a bit of rough with the local feral females.

Jux · 12/09/2017 14:44

My cats are gods, forget royalty! In fact, one of them even disdains the blood sacrifices made for her but allows her male counterpart to partake after she has wheedled it out of dh made her requirement known.

KurriKurri · 12/09/2017 14:44

Round here they are an underclass, operating in the small hours of the morning, doing dodgy deals and making rival cats 'disappear'. Flick knife carrying, looting, pillaging demons of the night.

And they shit in my flower beds.

Peachyking000 · 12/09/2017 14:46

I haven't noticed any pattern amongst cat owners, in terms of class. Now certain dog breeds are a different matter though - in particular Staffordshire Terriers and Huskies.

HesaidIwasflighty · 12/09/2017 16:36

I grew up solidly working class, and while no-one I knew actually owned a cat, there were plenty of feral ones in the waste ground of the factory behind our house. I spent many a night wondering which cruel monster had left their baby outside overnight. . .

Anyway, I'm not sure what class my own cat occupies. She's definitely a bit needy, slightly indulged, gets plenty of treats, but has a very common tone of voice. So, not exactly godlike, not entirely bottom-of-the-heap, I'm thinking a bit Made in Chelsea? Grin

'He's violent, unfaithful, would kill for Dreamies and licks his own arse.

You could be describing half the Tory back benches there.

bigtapdancingpimp · 12/09/2017 16:46

My cat is upper middle class for sure, she gifted me a chameleon on Sunday Hmm

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 12/09/2017 16:48

My cat is the Mob leader in my road. The males have no qualms taking orders from a female.

bigtapdancingpimp · 12/09/2017 16:55

Poor confused chameleon Grin

There is a gang of cats who roam my council estate. Sometimes when I go past a certain part of the estate in the early hours of the morning there will be 7 cats just standing outside this house staring and watching as we go. In my head, it's a Top Cat scenario.

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 12/09/2017 17:03

A bit the same in my road captain marvel. We've given them all gangster names. They stare you out except for my cat who looks the other way, disdainfully.

splendidisolation · 12/09/2017 17:13

Actually my thread was originally about the class of the owners but this tangent is good too 😂
I have a working class male and a middle class female. She looks like she should be upper class but just isnt breezy or assertive enough to be anything but middle. Probably lower middle as she's not neurotic. 😂

Happydoingitjusttheonce it's not ginger is it? The only one who doesn't give a crap is a big ginger cat who will look at you then go back to licking itself. All the other cats freeze and stare. I feel sorry for my dog, I'm sure they are putting an hit out on him.

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 12/09/2017 17:25

No captain she's b&w. She's got the gingers under her floofs tho

QueenMortificado · 12/09/2017 17:27

I've never been to someone's house who has a cat and it not smell of cat wee. That sour scent seems to get everywhere, always a whiff even under cleaning products etc.

You obviously have a high idea of how athletic the Tory back-benchers are. Or are you speaking from experience?

bellasuewow · 12/09/2017 17:55

My dog is a scruff bag from the bin of life op and I am terribly posh 😁

Clandestino · 12/09/2017 18:05

The Goddess says she's a deity. Me, strictly a slave.

It's cat central where I live and I promise you, I don't live in a leafy middle class area Grin
